Outsiders thoughts on kids headcanons
Darry
- before his parents died he figured having kids was just a given thing. He never questioned whether or not he wanted them, he just pictured them as part of his life after college
- After they died, he is truly unsure. Everything is still very chaotic in his life, and picturing a future is difficult because now he knows there’s no predicting the future.
Soda
- I think canonically he’s def open to kids. I’d go further than that and say he definitely wants them. When he imagines his life as a full fledged adult, there like five or six mini sodas running around causing problems
- I think he also pictures Darry and pony having kids so his kids can have cousins. I don’t think he puts too much thought into it, not that he doesn’t have serious thoughts about his future, just that kids are something that will happen for him and he knows it
Ponyboy
- didn’t think about it. Having kids is something he always figured would just happen TO him, he never actually thought about actively having kids.
- When he’s older and closer to that age, I think it would become very real for him and he’d have to really think about it. Ultimately I think having kids is very neutral ground for him, he doesn’t feel strongly either way but regardless of what he picks, he’s going to second guess himself.
Steve
- more confusing for Steve. His first thought is “Hell No”, but that’s more at the idea of a little kid. I think he would get along with some random fatherless teenager and have a bit of a prank relationship and enjoy it begrudgingly, but he would only ever accidentally fall into parenthood
- If he did accidentally have a baby, he’d be distant at first. I think eventually though he would get used to it and be a more active father, especially if the kid reminds him of himself.
Twobit
- similar to soda in that kids is not a question to him. Unlike soda though, twobit doesn’t think about the actual fatherhood aspect, more so the idea of five million red headed mini-bits running around and doing his bidding.
- Accidentally having a child is probably the only way he’d have a kid, despite that. I don’t see him ever actively trying for a baby, just “letting nature take its course”
Dallas
- the idea of kids annoys him, and the idea of HIM having kids is laughable. He doesn’t ever picture his future (what future anyway) but dad Dallas I would never come up anyway.
- Realistically, I do think he could have had a few kids. Not ones he’s close with by any means, but the results of flings and such. Probably wouldn’t pay child support but if he ran into a kid of his he might give them something to get them off his back.
Johnny
- like Dallas, never really pictured a future for himself. Probably never thought about having kids because having kids requires talking to a girl (and more) and he can hardly imagine wooing a girl.
- If he really thought about kids, I think he would be tentatively open to it. Probably more so when he sees good, loving parents because then he could imagine himself in their position.
Tim
- like Dallas, he wouldn’t ever purposefully have kids. Unlike dally though, I think Tim would be more open to them. He also doesn’t picture much of a future for himself, but I think he’s more realistic about what will eventually happen if he keeps sleeping around.
- He certainly doesn’t dream about kids or anything, and he doesn’t picture himself being father of the year. The kids would be background noise in his house if anything. I do think he’d be absolutely pickled if one of them looked like him
Angela
- I think for a lot of girls especially, kids weren’t much of a question. I personally do think Angela would want kids, not really out of a desire to be a mother, but because other girls her age are having kids. She definitely has a baby name list.
- I think after the pregnancy scare (and the marriage) having kids is a lot more real to her and she’s more thoughtful about it. She would probably decide on only one or two, and preferably not with her husband
Curly
- never thought about it thank god. He’s a cat dad and probably forgot he could totally have a real human child. Has no personal experience with babies anyway, and is the youngest so he isn’t really used to kids either.
- If he had to think about it, I don’t think he would want kids. They get in the way and cost money. He sees Tim taking care of them (badly) and doesn’t want to be that because it looks miserable
Bryon
- like many others, he figured kids would just happen one day. I will say, he definitely pictured his future kids playing with marks future kids. It was just part of what life was supposed to look like.
- Now, I think he might think harder about having kids. If he had a serious girlfriend again, I think he would be very hesitant because he would question his ability to be a good father.
Mark
- didn’t really picture himself having kids, he figured he’d just poach some of Bryon’s when necessary. He was excited about being an uncle one day
- Definitely doesn’t want kids now, I don’t think he is looking for family of any sort. If he accidentally had a child I think he would be pissed (mostly at himself) and would not be present both out of fear of the child and of himself.
Cathy
- similar to Ponyboy in that it seemed like something that would just happen, but never actually planned it out. She comes from a large family, so I think she would choose to just have one or two because she is a more reserved person.
- Besides, her kids will having like five million cousins anyway. If they get lonely, they can go to any of her siblings’ houses.
M&M
- canonically wanted kids, but became unsure after his experience. I think once he’s more healed from that, he could properly revisit the idea of having kids.
- Once he feels better and more stable, he wouldn’t probably have a ridiculous amount. He’d be a funky parent too, I think he’d be a bit crunchy and his kids would be outside a lot.
