The Rose that grew from the Sea

Here is a poem I wrote inspired by Jhene Aiko. For my poem series I’m writing called Rose Microphone.

The Rose that grew from the Sea

Here I am sitting on this beach

as I Iooked out at the sea

a gentle breeze comes and lifts me up

and points me toward an amazingly beautiful sight

A single rose coming from the sea

but as soon as I took a few steps towards it

a voice began singing

So soft but also powerful and soothing

Also filled with so much pain and anger

the closer I got to the rose

the stronger it got

to the point where even the waves

are getting higher

So as I get to the rose

The waves rose so high they almost touched the clouds

As the waves come roaring down

I stood over the rose as to protect it

The wave engulfed me and the rose

While still holding on

to the rose as I passed out

But after a while I came through

On a boat with the rose

a few feet ahead of me

stood a beautiful woman who looked at me

As if she saw my soul

Then she told me these words

Don’t worry

No pressure

Since we are about to Sail Out

Rose Microphone#1/Snow Tha Product

            For those of you who don’t know Snow Tha Product is one of the most talented up incoming mcs around. Even though she is not what most consider to be an mc being a female and latina. Which is needed to help to grow and make rap more diverse. She is someone that I believe to be smart and deep from her many interviews.

            Which can be seen from her guest verses on tracks with Lupe Fiasco, Tech Nine and a few others. Her ability to switch her flow from track to track. But also the Woke Wednesdays series with the Wake Ya Game Up crew and her Ustream Channel. And another important aspect to Snow is the fans aka the Product Pushas who help to promote by always tweeting and getting the word out.

            The Future looks bright for this rapper. Hopefully she gets the biggest platform to showcase her talent. With a re-release of her mixtape Good Nights and Bad Mornings and her debut album on the way. Will we see her on the Bet Hip Hop Awards Cypher or on next years XXl Freshman Cover. Support Snow Tha Product who is very talented and can’t wait to see how she grows as an artist.

Rappers & Films

Where are the rapper turned screenwriters?

Rap music has spawned many great storytellers over the years from many different rappers. Also over the past few years there have been many rappers turned actors. In varying degrees of success from Tupac, DMX, Queen Latifah, Ice Cube, 50 Cent, Common and etc. So that got me thinking why aren’t there more rappers turned screenwriters.

Since a lot of rap is someone telling a story and a few have been able to help you paint a picture as if was a movie. For example imagine Nas’s Rewind as feature length or short film. Or even J Cole has taken many different views of different people on his songs. There has also been many other songs that can developed into screenplays. Maybe it is time for more rappers to take risks into taking their writing into different mediums.

If more rappers decided to write more screenplays maybe we will be able to see more variety of African Americans on screen. Which can help get us into different positions and expose new avenues of career possibilities other just being a rapper.
