feeling exceptionally unwell and bold tonight. life has been putting me through the wringer so i'm gonna be self indulgent and talk about one of my favorite defernull tenna headcanons of mine that i've had for MONTHS now, based on these tweets. because everybody i've talked to about this didn't know about this potential lore and i wanna spread the information!!! i'll put it under a cut because it's long and a little heavy

but ever since i saw this, i've just been. HAUNTED by the imagery of dnTenna having an exceptionally bad episode post-Spamton disappearance where he just, accidentally or not, rips his own head off. it breaks upon hitting the floor, but doesn't kill him. it causes the TV in the light world to malfunction as well.

the Dreemurrs, still caring enough for TV to invest in trying to fix it, buy new antennae for the thing and install them, which manifests as a brand new head in the dark world. the Mikes have to install it, but because they don't know what they're doing, they do it slightly wrong and so Tenna has to fight it to work sometimes.

the new head is not what changed his personality but it traumatized him and that's part of why he is the way he is now. the poor guy keeps getting burned by love and now he just had to deal with the horrors of That . the TV world Darkners probably say things like "he was never the same after he got that new head" and he lets them believe that because he'd rather that be the assumed cause rather than having them know that it was love that was the catalyst. people don't need to know how unstable he is behind the scenes, they can't know that he loves. they can't know he hurts.

i think his robot body is partially faulty in general because he refuses maintenance after Spamton disappeared, because Spamton was the only one he trusted to do it because he knew about mechanics. he doesn't want anybody to be able to be that close to his guts because they could kill him, but also because he's scared of knowing how bad his body has gotten. but for his head specifically, i imagine its actually slightly loose on the right side and sometimes his screen won't turn on/off or to what he wants it to. with more antennae, you'd think it would be more useful to him, but some days its actually detrimental because its just extra body parts he has to pray cooperate with him. not to mention he can hear so much better now and its overstimulating as fuck.

he's incredibly self conscious about how his head and body no longer match color-wise and he covers up as much of his body as possible, like he's trying to convince himself that he has to be this new version of himself whether he likes it or not. he hates his new head, sees it as a curse even. but it was a gift from his Lightners, who is he to complain? he had to die to survive.
