Namhae fleshpit ghost story might be the 'head' of the dragon as it is on yongmeori (dragon head) coast. Mokpo station might be the 'throat'. Mok(목) means neck/throat. (from the mokpo to tamra station ghost story)
New chunks of information are revealed, which is great! Since the location of Namhae Branch is canonized, I would like to workshop and update my apocalypse theory based on new information from recent chapters.
So, about this apocalypse theory, the basic gist is this:
- Same-rooted darkness underneath Korea creates different organs, depending on where they are (thyroid gland for Namhae & stomach for Jisan), and they overlap with the location of cult sectors.
- When all organs are successfully created & developed, they will connect with each other & turn into a single being.
The apocalypse occurs when this gigantic living organism wakes up, currently dormant under Korea.
Two weeks ago, I wrote a reply comment about where this giant being's mouth would be (thank you for asking this question @constalation-bored-anarchist ! ) & this is it.
As inferred from the comment above, I was speculating that Jeju Island is where the HEAD of this giant being might be located.
Chapter 399 revealed that the Namhae Branch office is located on Jeju Island, and three of them got out of the exit, right next to the "Yongmeori Coast."
(On a side note: Yeah, I had the same thought process as Soleum. Didn't suspect a thing about Namhae encompassing a much broader area.
Generally, the name in front of the branch represents the region, like Incheon or Busan. As mentioned, Namhae(남해/南海) County's name literally means South(남/南) Sea(해/海), probably because it's an island in the South Sea of Korea.
Again, BDS-nim created ANOTHER GOOD TWIST & A GREAT WAY TO CONNECT THE NARRATIVE. )
Back to the subject at hand, if Namhae Branch office means the branch located in the South Sea, Jeju Island is really the HEAD of this giant creature buried underneath.
There are 2 reasons for this.
1) "Yongmeori" means "dragon 'HEAD'". A name that literally signifies a body part? BDS-nim won't miss that opportunity.
2) Remember this from chapter 391?
Soleum figured out that there are exits here and there in the Namhae Branch at the main control room, and 7 of them were inaccessible.
Question. Do you know how many orifices the human face has? SEVEN. Two ear holes, two eye holes, two nostrils, and a mouth.
If this (native) parasitic darkness creates organs in respective locations, then this darkness would dwell in the locus for future organs to be developed. These 7 exits, coinciding with this giant organism's facial organs, are inaccessible because of that darkness, already encroaching on the area.
This makes Jeju Island "the head".
If Jeju is the head, how is it connected to the body? This answer is also insinuated in chapter 399.
Saheon doesn't remember moving in a different type of transportation other than a car, and I do NOT think Saheon's perception is skewed here.
The answer is evident: There is an undersea tunnel connecting the land and the island, functioning as a NECK.
Soleum remembers commuting to his workplace via minecar. It is the same route. Saheon probably came here by the same path.
However, I do not think Daydream dug the entire undersea tunnel; instead, the Daydream Corp discovered this pre-existing undersea tunnel, a darkness-ridden one, while they were searching for new darknesses to extract more dream essences.
Remember, director Cheong was involved in all kinds of 'dragon'-related darknesses, including the "YongMeori Coast". Also, she is an efficiency-oriented person, so I don't think she would waste tremendous time and money to do so; she just revamped that tunnel, paved the road, and made it more accessible.
On top of that, she put the Daydream branch office to keep an eye on it, and collecting high-tier dream essences by sending expendable human resources there.
Also, this location actually fits much better than the previous one, Namhae County. Namhae branch's native darkness's ultimate goal is to become a fully functional thyroid gland, right?
The thyroid gland is located in the NECK, between the head and the body. This darkness originally resides in the undersea tunnel.
That leads to another question. Then, where does this tunnel head to?
This is answered by another darkness/disaster that was mentioned a hundred chapters ago. The darkness that is ALSO highly related to Jeju Island.
Yes, the "Train to Tamra."
Tamra is an old name of Jeju, and this particular darkness occurred on the train from Seoul to Mokpo.

After doing some research on the Korail (Korea Railroad Corp) website, I pinpointed the train line that matches the description from chapter 116.
Replace Yongsan with Seoul, and if you count the stations before Mokpo, there are 9 stations. Also, Cheonan-Asan station is where Jisan Village is located.
The answer is Mokpo; the undersea tunnel connects Jeju Island & Mokpo.
According to the official Mokpo City website, the most plausible, leading theory of Mokpo's name origin is that this region has functioned geographically as a gateway, "A THROAT" that connects the land and the sea. Mok(목) in Korean literally means NECK/THROAT.

This is a real-life government-scale project to create a railroad connecting the mainland to Jeju, as the "Jeju Undersea Tunnel". It was suggested decades ago, yet it is now halted due to many reasons.
But do you know which region was chosen as one of the candidates? You guessed it. IT'S MOKPO.
In sum, my "massive organism lying under the shape of the Korean peninsula" theory is still intact, but with a few adjustments in locations.
Jeju Island = the HEAD
Undersea tunnel = the NECK
Mokpo = the 'NEXUS' area, connecting with the body.

Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
another addition as far as physical media goes there is the encyclopedia of national dress (that i still need to buy myself bc this kind of thing is super important to my sort of fantasy designing) but yes i do agree i wish there was EVEN MORE documentation on this
