just a simple creature of intent ✧ a witchy & spiritual sideblog, kept primarily by selkie / puffin. 26. any pronouns. baby witch; I have been practicing for 5+ years but I am just now beginning to engage with the witchcraft and spiritual communities. always learning & growing ! my practice is built around living and acting with intent, as well as honoring my abilities and building confidence as a queer, neurodivergent, and plural adult. I am primarily kemetic, working with Anubis, Set, and more recently Bastet. I have also recently started looking into Animism. please note our practice is kept by three members of our system. posting is primarily done by the host, selkie / puffin, but we have two other members that also contribute, maru / mau and remé. you can meet each of us at the bottom of this post ♡

we largely identify as an eclectic self-taught witch; we started out kemetic but have been expanding our practice, and recently became interested in animism. please note we struggle, and are still learning how, to put labels on our practice and identity as a witch.

we primarily work with Anubis and Set, and more recently Bastet, Sekhmet, and Maat. maru / mau is a devotee of Bastet, and remé mostly serves Medusa.

we are queer and neurodivergent (Autism, ADHD, OCD) - our practice has been built around honoring these parts of our identity and learning to live and practice with them. we focus on building confidence, focus, and self love.

note this blog will feature general positivity / reminders / support, mental health resources & discussion, queer resources & discussion, and maybe other things that are relevant to our practice but may not be traditionally considered witchcraft or spirituality related.

our practice aesthetics / vibes could be described as eclectic, eccentric, and maximalist. we believe in whimsy maxxing and collecting, as well as rejecting cringe culture.

firmly anti- AI, racism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, exorsexism, intersexism, censorship, callout culture, etc. we believe all systems are valid, and do not discuss our origins. in general we try to stay away from discourse and drama. this blog is a safe space.

Simple Ways to Practice Magick Everyday

Say a small prayer or do a short meditation before you get out of bed in the morning.

Write down dreams or visions you had.

Stir your first cup of coffee or tea counterclockwise to banish negativity and bad luck or clockwise to bring positive energy.

Draw daily tarot or oracle cards (you can also use a pendulum) for guidance.

Cleansing yourself and home using sound or smoke.

Ancestor or spirit offerings

Pick out your clothes, shoes, jewelry... ect with intention.

Write a sigil or petition paper and burn it.

Take a ritual shower. You can spice it up with candles, herbs, and crystals, or you can simply step under the water and imagine all the negativity and bad energy washing off you. You can also recite a chant.

Every time you look into the mirror, say an affirmation

Take a walk outside and ground yourself to Mother Earth.

Dance!! Dancing is an excellent way to rise the energy, and it helps with opening the sacral and solar plexus chakra and getting in touch with the inner child.

Level-Up Your Witchcraft

Find ways to practice daily. Start small with more energy manageable spellwork, like daily tea/kitchen magic. Try out planetary magic to help plan spells and rituals ahead of time. Daily practice helps novice witches to grow their abilities to handle and manipulate energy in greater capacities.

Daily prayer. Remember, praying doesn’t always have to be directed towards spirits or deities. Praying for your own personal power is extremely empowering. Here’s a great video from one of my favorite magical mentors on the topic.

Wear a crystal or oil programed as a magical enhancer to help amplify your will while casting. This was a game changer for me.

Discover & follow your path. Many witches are encouraged to learn many casting methods and types of magic when they are beginning their journey. I considered myself an eclectic witch for eight years before realizing what speciality of witchcraft fit best with me. Once a practitioner focuses on their most suitable path, things feel like they unlock naturally and magic feels more intense.

Read witchcraft adjacent nonfiction. As you dive deeper into most practices, what’s useful won’t be a correspondence cheat sheet or a spell book, but actual history and science. Reading books on quantum physics has helped me develop my own magical theory. Historical & geological references can help witches connect with their ancestral magic. When witches open their view of magic to include everything around them, any topic can become magical exploration and information for the grimoire. Correspondences can be discovered the old fashioned way, through discernment and for yourself.

Routine spell management. Reinforce wards or cast spells routinely in whatever manner works best for you. That could be weekly, monthly, or seasonally. Are you routinely cleansing under the New Moon? Maybe your wards are cast seasonally.

Write your own spells. Everyone loves a good spell book, but if all your casting are other people’s spells, you may not be reaching your full potential.

Meditate. Fifteen minutes a day will unlock more than you ever dreamed possible. I read in a mindfulness book once that meditating eliminates resistance, allowing what you’ve been asking for to flow into your life uninhibited. It also enhances your intuition and recalibrates your mind and body.

Master a method of divination. Tarot, runes, anything! Divination allows the witch to answer their own questions regarding spellwork, better plan, and communicate with allied spirits. It’s the first thing I would tell a young witch to learn.

been having a kind of rough week so took a trip to the occult shop to treat myself to something. ended up picking up some incense and offerings for Bastet ♡

honestly I've felt so. lucky. since I started working with her. like she intervened when I needed her. I feel like she cares. I've felt more hopeful, more resilient. I've never felt this level of warmth or devotion in my practice before.

I just had an interesting experience with my Tarot.

I recently got a new deck (Any Means Necessary) and felt compelled to shuffle it. I wasn't thinking about anything in particular but drew a couple cards - they seemed related to some feelings I've been trying to work through recently, which seems fitting to the vibe of the deck.

after I was done I decided that, while I was at my altar, I would leave an offering for Bastet and use the deck I have for communicating with her (Egyptian Book of the Dead) to ask for guidance. mind, this is not the standard set of cards like the first deck, but I basically pulled cards with the exact same meaning.

I was a little floored, honestly. this has never happened to me before - I've never felt compelled to shuffle my tarot, nor done multiple readings and gotten similar responses. just a weird, serendipitous turn of events. and I feel closer to Bastet, like she was trying to communicate with me.

Anyone can connect to nature. Please, remove the mindset that nature is something *out there*. Nature is all around you.

The dandelions peeking through pavement cracks, the birds you don't notice on your windowsill, the brambles in the alleys, the storms and sunshine.

All of this is nature. You are surrounded by it. Notice it, learn about it. Write down when you notice the days getting longer, when more butterflies appear and when ripen blackberries ripen. Connect to the nature that lives outside your window, just past the boundary of your front door.

Watch nature documentaries, build a small windowsill garden, let the spider in your room corner stay for a while.

Connection is not determined by proximity, but by effort.

This is especially important for people who can't leave their homes, or even get out of bed.

Even if you can only observe nature through an open (or even closed!) window, you can still appreciate it and connect with it. Nature is all around you, even in the heart of the city, in birds, bugs, even as op said, the weeds poking through the cracks of the pavement.

The sea is a temple. The woods are a temple. Your own bedroom is a temple. The world is imbued with the spiritual. Worship is an act, not a place, and it can happen spontaneously, in reaction to the beauty of a moment.

The most important thing I have ever learned in witchcraft is the mindset of having nothing to prove to anyone. Oh, you don't believe in any of that witchy stuff? It's nice how we can all have our own beliefs, isn't it? You think my practice is "aesthetic witchcraft" because my altar looks nice. It does look nice, thanks. I don't need to prove how functional it is. You want to see my spirit flight experiences validated? They're validated to me and, since they're personal, that's all that matters.

My witchcraft doesn't need a peer review system. I remain open to new information that impacts my worldview. I am open to the opinions of my family, friends, respected acquaintances, and former mentors. But I don't have to prove anything to them either. And that's the most helpful witchcraft mindset I've ever come to.

here’s your friendly reminder that witchcraft is for people of all ages, races, genders, sexualities, religions, ethnicities, people with practices that look different than yours, and for all the people that want to. yes, you can practice witchcraft if you’re part of xyz, if you like the same gender, if you’re trans, if you believe in xyz, rather than abc—you don’t need hundreds of dollars worth of supplies, you don’t need to do anything other than what you want, because it’s your path. never let anybody tell you that you can’t practice witchcraft, because you can.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is clean your room, open the window, and let the air move again. Energy needs circulation just like lungs do.

first thing in the morning—take three slow deep breaths (air/sky) more grounding than immediately checking a phone

notice your feet on the ground taking root when you stand up for the first time of the day, take a little stretch (earth/land)

wash or splash your face to get alll the way awake. then chug a big glass. (water/sea)

appreciate any trees, plants, dirt, or clouds you see

place both hands on your heart to feel your own heat and warmth. feel your heart beating. “i am alive” (fire)

wear or carry a rock, hagstone, crystal, talisman, or amulet

in times of stress or dissociation, rub your thumb in small circles on the back of your other hand to ground and soothe. (clockwise for attracting an intention, counterclockwise for banishing)

add cinnamon, lavender, or peppermint to coffee according to intention if you don’t want to drink tea

stirring tea/coffee according to intention

sometimes i pick a little affirmation for the day— “may i forgive myself” “the universe is within me/the wild is within me”

visualization—inhale a bright light and let it fill your lungs, exhaling clouds of negativity

or create a shield with breathing. with each breath, imagine a bubble forming around your body, then your aura, growing with strength.

cleansing shower at the end of the day (intending it to cleanse my aura makes me more motivated to take one, idkw)

if taking a bath, add a dash of moon water

sniff lavender essential oil before bed

look at the moon, talk to it. remind yourself that it’s the same one your ancestors knew.

How to Start Creating Your Own Style of Witchcraft

You don’t need to follow any one tradition. Start with what makes you feel connected.

✅ 1. Explore what actually resonates

Do you feel drawn to:

herbs?

candle magic?

deities?

moon phases?

tarot?

crystals? Start where your curiosity sparks.

✅ 2. Keep a Book of Shadows or journal

Write down:

what you try

what works

what doesn’t

signs or dreams

spells you create You’ll naturally build your own system.

✅ 3. Learn slowly, not all at once

Pick one topic per week or month. Let yourself grow at a human pace.

✅ 4. Don’t be afraid to be eclectic

Your path will be uniquely yours. It’s okay to mix:

folk magic

kitchen witchcraft

Celtic deity work

moon rituals …as long as you’re respectful.

✅ 5. Let intuition lead

If it feels right, warm, grounding, or familiar — follow it. If it feels wrong, sharp, or uncomfortable — step back.

Your craft is a conversation with your spirit. You’ll learn the language as you go.

Paganism is vast, Wicca is one path within it, and witchcraft is something you can weave into your life in the way that fits you best. There’s no perfect witch. There’s no exam. There’s only curiosity, practice, and connection.

Trust your feelings. Trust the land beneath your feet. Trust that your craft will grow naturally — just like you.
