anthropology professor: LAUMA

among the faculty at the university, lauma is a professor for anthropological studies! majoring in it herself, she also holds a phd in clinical medicine as well as having extensive knowledge regarding holistic medicine, dabbling in getting a degree in psychology in order to better help others

incredibly kind and soft spoken, she has a more hands on approach to teaching compared to other professors, often taking her students out in the field if she is able to

when not busy with class, lauma also assists the medical department of the university, her knowledge coming in handy and with how welcoming she is, it's easier for students to open up to her

however she can also be stern when need be and as such most know not to mess with her or in her classroom, both out of respect and perhaps fear

speaks a multitude of languages, something required by her work

if you see animals following her don't worry about it she's just feeding the ones around campus

her horns sometimes gets stuck in doorways but thankfully most are high enough where that doesn't happen

far be it from her to deny the curiosity of another and well-meaning at that. she can sense no ill-will in his question. lauma has received many inquisitive glances but not many were brave enough to ask. although pikachu wasn't an animal in the traditional sense, his earnest nature told her all she needed to know.

" They're quite heavy, though. Not all the time but enough to be a pain when they are." she laughs softly, reaching up to fix the ornamental adornments. "Unfortunately I can't channel moonlight like you can electricity. If I could, it would make dealing with the Fatui....far, far easier."

she is, if not annoyed as well. there will be no kindness shown to the harbinger, not after all he has down to nod-krai as a whole and those she cares for. there had been that sliver of hope. that here there would be a reprieve from the machinations of someone willing to subvert divinity, going so far as to remove any obstacles in his way.

the land she loves is free from his influence for now but here? it seems the moonchanter can't let her guard down anytime soon.

"Paimon. traveler. Miss Lauma." polite as always, he greets the group with a small bow. he chooses to listen quietly at first, preferring to remain on the sidelines and allow everyone to speak their piece.

until Lauma addresses him with a question, at least, causing his gaze to shift. "nowhere even close to as long as they have. I believe in this island's time... it would be about a month by rough estimate." a very rough estimate, at that. there is little concern in keeping count when there's plenty to occupy oneself.

he glances between the three of them now, hand lifting to rest in front of his mouth. "I am already somewhat familiar with a few places, but perhaps if all of you have a moment to spare, we could take a little trip together? if Paimon would be so kind as to put her exceptional skills to use and guide us..."

the suggestion earned a nod — Flins growing familiar with the land would make the process of showing Lauma around all the faster, given that her name had been the most recent addition among friends. toward the Moonchanter centred her focus, fingers unfurling from the elevated palm.

"from our experience, time doesn't seem to move outside while we're here, so Columbina won't be at risk of being attacked without us there to help her, nor will the Frostmoon Scions be without your guidance". if that might reassure the antlered woman regarding either party, then the Traveler hoped it might allow her to breathe easier.

Paimon meanwhile was busy getting giddy over Flins' recommendation, her legs wriggling with excitement to undoubtedly prove her place as best guide — without Ineffa around, there was no-one to try and challenge her!

" A month.....and yet for me, it's as if I've spoken to the both of you only yesterday. How odd." time no doubt operates differently here, judging by their words. as her trusted companions, lauma has no reason to doubt their claims, especially when the traveler confirms her suspicions, but it perplexes her all the same. why does the flow of time differ? were they in the past? the future? or some place disconnected from the land of teyvat altogether? as eager as she is to get answers for those questions, secrecy was something that was universal and she doubts that this place would give it up so quickly.

"That's a relief, though. I would be unable to forgive myself were something to happen to Kuutar or the Scions in my absence."

her gaze returns towards the traveler and her companion, a smile settling on her features. " But trip does sound wonderful. As the newest here amongst us, it would also afford me the chance to see what this city has to offer. It is already so different from Nod-Krai that I can hardly believe my eyes." not to mention the strange device gifted to her upon arrival but surely they can help with that too.

seeing paimon's excitement is enough to get the woman to laugh, head bowing slightly. "Id be delighted to let the best guide in all of the land lead us in this new place....the Star Trail, you say? Is it like the markets in Nasha Town?"

among all the guests tonight, one in particular is impossible to miss. her appearance is unexpected yet a most welcome surprise. "Miss Lauma? I never would have guessed I'd be seeing you here." for one, there is all the chatter, and paired with the music... there was no certainty she would decide to attend.

"if you intend to stay, would you care for a dance?" only if she wishes to of course, but he holds out a hand regardless in case she needs something to focus on above the noise.

I suppose the lively atmosphere was too inviting to pass up." fond of the quiet as she may be, particularly after no longer being able to hear the voices of the wildlife, maybe some part of her missed the chatter. it wasn't something she looked into too deeply or worried about. "Although it is.....more lively than I expected. " hence her clinging to the fringes currently. it was quieter there, at least enough to think.

" You know how to dance? I wasn't aware such was a skill of the Lightkeepers." a lighthearted jest as she takes the offered hand, grateful for it.

"When it said 'sand-sledding', I didn't think it would include this!"

her words have to be shouted over the roar of the sandstorm behind them, though the roar came not from the weather phenomenon but the face within the sand itself. it's something lauma would expect to occur within the deserts of sumeru and not in this city. then again, it's been full of surprises since her arrival so why should this be any different? even so, it wasn't how she planned this outing to go. it was meant to be a mostly peaceful one, a chance for her to better get to know her roommate.

but chaos can bond people just as well.

" Fortunately, we seem to have a lead–ah– " lauma withdraws her hand from one of joshua's shoulders, firing a dendro-infused bolt towards a pop up wooden cut-out meant to impede them. it shatters into tiny pieces as the scion hums in satisfaction.

" My apologies if I come across as if prying. Should you wish to share your story, I will gladly listen. If not, that is fine as well. But if it eases the burdens on your heart then may I suggest talking to the wildlife? They're quite good listeners."
