My goal this summer was originally to bring my pile of untracked audios down to below 100. But now that I’m going to the Les Miz tour 4x in one week I am actually moving in the opposite direction. Once upon a time there were trackers who would help out sometimes… does anyone still do that? Especially with stuff not in English? I fear I am going to get old (already on it!) and die without ever releasing this stuff lol. What a waste!

Geronimo Rauch - long history of awesome

Going to Radio City again tomorrow. Can’t wait to see Geronimo Rauch in this! Almost 20 years ago I saw him in Jesus Christ Superstar in Madrid, and he was so awesome I still remember :-) Ancient program & castsheet:

Ancient Hungarian Jekyll & Hyde program haha

Found my ancient Jekyll & Hyde program and cast list from Budapest circa 2003!  This took place at a theater I don’t even think exists anymore (?).

Valjean: no I’m definitely not going to do that. [Five mins later] Buuuuuut, I’m going to ask you to let *this other* criminal go because you owe me!

Question: how infamous was Jean Valjean supposed to be? Like, if someone used his actual name in public by accident, would it turn heads?

Hi!! I just read your comment on Philip Quast, about that the Bishop hugged JVJ during the Finale! Anthing else about PQs performance you could share?? Huge fan here!!

Hi! I'm a huge fan too; he's a significant part of the reason I'm destroyyyyyying my theater budget this summer in order to hit Radio City 4 times.

Obviously he sounds different; the Bishop is more mellow and less crisp, but... when he comes in right off the bat with "and the night is cold out there..." I have to say I got goosebumps; it sounded like coming home :-) And it made me keep noticing how much of the Bishop's vocabulary & framing mirrors Javert's throughout.

He moves smoothly, the way you'd expect for a priest, but when he stands still he's extremely imposing. I dunno how Valjean got the nerve up to rob this guy.

He was a lil bit sharp/imperious with the gendarmes, and softer with Valjean - at least, that's what I heard, with my obsessive ears. Maybe I'm crazy.

I will have another chance to obsess this Thursday. And again Friday. And again next week. So we shall see!

Heading to Radio City tonight, bc while I have tix for this Javert and this Valjean later in the week, I don’t have any other tix to see them *together*. And like, what if there is some wild synergy I would otherwise miss!? Nope nope cannot risk it. Off I go!

Facebook keeps showing me this clip of Randal Keith as Javert and now I am repeatedly finding myself on Expedia looking at flights to Utah.  Is anyone else having this problem??  Also why is Utah so far away?

Homonnay Zsolt has hands down the best Hyde-to-Jekyll injection in the current Budapest production - complete with fabio-esque hairtoss, and a disgusted accusatory glare like "look what you made me do, jerk." His Hyde is SO dramatic and extra here. I love it.

Javert thoughts from US tour (Boston)

I saw the tour in Boston a few weeks ago, Hayden Tee as Javert, and here’s a couple of little Javert-related things I liked:

At the beginning, the convicts all go but Javert waits around til last, to give Valjean the stinkeye as the last thing he sees before he leaves.  Does he does that to *every* convict who is released, or does he just have it in for Valjean in particular?

I LOVE the growl that comes in and out of his voice.  He *sometimes* growls at people, but he’s not roaring all the time.  (I mean, Hugo says “dog.”  He doesn’t say “dog with rabies.”).  It’s pretty intimidating.

Towards the end of Confrontation, after he’s gotten back to his feet and they’re separated, he cuntily tugs his gloves/sleeves in order before jumping back in for another round.  It’s a super extra thing to do in the middle of a fight and I LOVE IT.  He also fights well and dirty; I bet this Javert has won fistfights before. 

Javert and Gavroche had a kind of nemesis-but-almost-frenemy vibe that I really liked.  When Gavroche calls liar, Javert looks at him and right away puts his head in his hands, a huge double facepalm, like “oh shit him im screwed.”  And when Javert sees him after the barricade he rushes over to shake him like hoping he might be alive.  Wahhhhh.

During the battle, Grantaire was crouched behind Javert for a long time, holding his shoulders, with his head ducked.  Not sure if he was whispering in his ear or using him as a human shield – or both?

I love his breathless gasps at the beginning of the suicide, like he’s having a panic attack and/or ugly-crying.  I really want to give this Javert a hug, even though I am sure he does not accept hugs.

I feel like I've heard it in concerts or solo-albums by others too, but, is there anybody else who does in performances of the show?

I’ve had this thought before but tonight (tour in boston) I was SURE: Javert became mortally certain who Valjean was during the cart situation.

And I guess afterwards he ran straight to the police station going: “guys quick, we need to set up a fake trial, dress someone up like a judge and gimme a convict, I’ve tricked a dangerous fugitive into coming to turn himself in!”

I swear, this Javert had his number. He was 0% surprised when Valjean showed up and confessed. Zeeeeero.
