Leg Day

There's so much to say about Xiao Zhan's new vlog! But mostly I'm just thrilled to see that he's able to wander around Beijing totally unbothered and relaxed... I love that for him. Of course I wondered who he's wandering around with... I mean, it's probably staff, but then I saw this:

Yeah, I know, Yibo hasn't been blond in forever, but the character on this guy's face is 帅, or shuai, meaning "handsome" and that made me go hmmmmm.

Right after this little graphic (which is already kind of sus because YBO just released a video that used the whole video game vibe too), Xiao Zhan and his companion are bickering about leg day.

It starts off with the faceless (and voice-altered guy) saying, 我收个声啊, or "I'll shut up, ah," and I went 👀

This doesn't sound like how a staff member would talk to a boss... and of course it made me think of all the times Xiao Zhan has told Yibo to shut up.

Then the mystery guy says, "'nian' 退了?"

Here I thought, "Why is 'nian' spelled out? What 'nian' is this? Is it 廿 as in Yibo's single, or is it 年腿 and this impudent staff member is teasing Xiao Zhan for having old legs?" Who would have the audacity to tease Xiao Zhan for having old legs? Huh, I wonder?

Xiao Zhan fires back, "练, lian 练! 练腿不是"nian"腿" (training, 'lian' training! Training legs is not 'nian' legs" to clarify that he said "lian" (practice or training) and not "nian" (and I'm guessing from his tone that he took it to mean a jab at his age haha).

I just love this, the bickering over word play, it feels very them to me (and I also feel very validated because I always feel like they're playing these games in their posts... and here we have XZS choosing to highlight this bit of word play between Xiao Zhan and his "staff").

I'm also reminded of the fake rumor about how Yibo will deliberately misunderstand things Xiao Zhan says and then run with it to get Xiao Zhan all riled up so they can make up later. 🫠

And then there's this exchange that feels soft and domestic to me:

"Shuai" guy says, "Leg training is so intense," and Xiao Zhan says, "you did leg training yesterday." Keep in mind that this was filmed in Beijing, and so I imagine this was filmed during that period when they were home together for an extended period (Xiao Zhan's hair is long but not that long yet) and they were getting to do things like work out together. And so of course Xiao Zhan would know if they did leg day the day before. 🥹

I mean, okay, maybe Xiao Zhan is just out with a buddy, and yes, he can have a close and teasing dynamic with his staff... but there's a lot packed in this little bit that just feels very Yibo to me.

The 帅 on the avatar's face? The age jab? The possible reference to 廿? The bickering?

Oh, and the fact that this was posted at 17:00 (together) and the video is 8:31 minutes long?

There's so much more to say about this video, but this little snippet has my heart, and I will happily clown about it.

This is also why I think some fans are getting carried away when they refuse to talk about these signs for fear it’s going to ‘hurt’ GGDD.

There are definitely some things we should be cautious about sharing or discussing, and we should try to shut down stalker behavior or overly invasive posts whenever they crop up, but discussing things that GGDD publicly share is not in the same territory at all. And discussing their relationship but saying it’s not OK to discuss their sexual orientation is also truly absurd.

Frankly some attempts to shut down bjyx discussions strike me as based in homophobia or fear of the CP. The fear that homosexuality will destroy GGDD or their careers may sometimes be well-intentioned, but I think people need to remember that if they really are gay/bi, then trying to ‘protect’ them from their own sexual orientation is an insult to a pretty fundamental part of their identities.

A lot of horrible things are done to LGBTQ people in the name of ‘protecting’ us from ‘queerness’. It’s straight people projecting onto queer people this horror story of what queerness means. But for queer people, this is our lives, our identities, our loves. The idea that those things are to be feared and avoided at all cost - it’s just so insulting and disrespectful.

If our boys really are gay/bi, then we should celebrate that as much as we celebrate every other awesome thing about them.

I was thinking, isn’t it dangerous to ask someone you only know for 2-3 months to design your logo for you? It’s going to be a pretty permanent thing and sure you can change it later but that may raise more questions. Whether they’re dating or just friends at that time, wouldn’t dd worry about breaking up or the friendship not ending well (maybe it’s just me but 2-3 months even in college when I see people everyday wasn’t enough for me to very solidly say I’ll be friends with these people forever, I’ve seen many people sign on roommates early in college and their friendship didn’t even last when the least started the next year) and he would be stuck with this logo as a reminder. So this must mean that dd, in whatever capacity their relationship was at that time, must be very sure that he will love gg forever. That even if things ended for some reason, he would still be glad to have gg in his life and be glad to carry the logo gg made for him.

It’s a sweet thought, but as someone who does a lot of graphic design I have to say that people never hesitate to ask for something to be designed, especially if it’s free/cheaper. Practically everyone I’ve ever dated has something I’ve designed for them. It’s just a thing that goes with being a designer.

I’m sure doctors get this all the time. “Hey, can you take a look at this rash for me?” “Should I be worried about this mole?” “I’ve had this crick in my neck…”

Although maybe GG is just smarter than me and doesn’t get taken advantage of as a designer. Keep your headcanon! 😅

Maybe, but I feel like the logo for his motorcycle as someone who is quite famous is pretty significant because a lot of people will see it and remember it and wonder why you change it. Of course, Idk the level of design you do for your friends/SOs so I can’t compare. Also gg said in the video I just posted that he doesn’t like to draw as present for other people, although we don’t know the extent of how far he carries that. 

But this is all me defending my crazy clown theory 🤡 And even if this 2018 portion isn’t that big of a deal, the amount of doting dd had on the suit/design later on speaks volumes. I think @untamedconnotations​ sums it up fairly well.

Yeah, totally not saying the suit wasn’t significant. My god, it was SO significant - especially given that it’s literally what protects DD as he races. Protected him in his recent crash, for that matter, which had to mean something to GG.

I think there’s an instinctive desire to help out those we’re close to. Like, a huge part of the reason I design stuff for people I am close to (despite that they are always the worst clients) is because I can’t bear to think of them having an inferior design, or to think of them using a logo that doesn’t reflect an understanding of them as deep as the understanding I have of them.

So I think there’s a protectiveness baked into all of that. I think most designers would agree, we want to use our abilities and our insights about the people we care about to help them express whatever it is they want to express via the design. It seems clear GG did that with the suit. He put a lot of care and love into that design.

And I somewhat joke about ‘everyone asking for design’ in my previous comments, but the reality is I won’t do a design for people I don’t feel special toward. I’ve turned down countless family members and acquaintances, even when they were offering money.

It’s the sort of relationship that is best entered into either with strangers or else really, really close loved ones. You basically have to be willing to let that person have some input into your creative process, and that’s a lot harder than it might seem. You either need trust, or else you need enough emotional distance to be able to say ‘no, I’m not doing that’ or to take charge of the process entirely.

ppl still skeptical abt gg designing dd's logo just makes me laugh. please go compare dd's weibo birthday status this year with his labelmates' (seungyoun, meng meiqi, and cheng xiao) and then do it with gg's. the facts are right there so glaringly obvious. do you think yh would go the extra lenght just to make his artist bd status? drawing of him doing his hobbies, the special writing (not basic font), the photo alignment and so on. yh would never.

Should we be glad that Yh is such a shitty company? Lol

I think what gets me most about the panther that I’ve said before is how personal and detailed it looks (also for someone like dd, it’s surprisingly cute and adorable, not something a random designer would simply dare draw).

Oh the reason this matters is that someone said that graphic designers don’t change the logos unless they have the permission to. So if you look at the “85” logo on the panther, it’s a lot sloppier/less detail than the actual 85 (no bullet and lightning). So people think it’s the same designer because he won’t be afraid to offend another designer. Idk if this is true though @rainbowsky might know the culture and manners of designer more.

To be honest, there are a couple of legitimate reasons why another designer might alter an existing logo in a situation like this:

To simplify it enough for the application it's being used for. The original version would not have worked on the sleeve of that panther. That design had a lot of fine lines, and too much detail would have looked muddy and indistinct when scaled to the size that the design would likely be used. The thin lines cutting through the numbers would have looked awful. The updated version on the sleeve is also slightly more cartoonish to fit with the style of the illustration.

To revise it. Designers will often be asked to update a pre-existing logo, whether to modernize it, to adapt it to a client's changing preferences, or to change the tone of it as a brand is being refreshed.

It's not automatically dickish to tweak a logo that somebody else has designed. If the client no longer has a professional relationship with the original designer, their new designer would have free rein to do whatever they wanted with the logo. Because logos are such an integral part of everything a client does with their brand, the client will retain full copyright to the logo design and be free to have it altered as they wish. Any designer who doesn't ensure a client purchases and maintains that level of control over a logo doesn't have their client's best interests at heart.

Having said all of that, I think it is self-evident that GG did the Panther design. People can try to wash it all they want, but there's more than enough evidence to conclude that he did that design.

It closely matches his style of illustration

He already has established a design relationship with DD, and they are clearly still together, so there's zero reason why someone else would suddenly be brought into the mix.

The design is special, and feels very personal in tone as opposed to professional in tone. The illustrator clearly put a lot of DD (and AFAIAC, a lot of GG) into the design. It was lovingly crafted and reflects the level of care and skill GG has.

DD showed that thing off like it was a picture of the two of them together. Because it was. And it's the closest thing that he has to being able to share that with the world. The level of pride he took in that design was vastly out of proportion from his usual behavior in relation to his promotional materials. We saw the Valentine's post that he made when the suit was designed. The social media frenzy he went on over the panther design is like a massive escalation of that. It feels very personal.

Just as with the design for the suit, the design for the Panther is uncredited. No one on this fucking planet is going to go uncredited in designing something for Wang Yibo besides GG.

Frankly, I feel people's reluctance to believe in this comes off as far more delusional than those who choose to believe in it. There is nothing to refute this, yet abundant evidence supporting it. People still trying to wash this are grasping at straws.

Thanks for clarifying that! I wasn’t sure about the whole tweaking logo thing but yes, I agree. And I think even if gg didn’t create the logo or panther 100%, he contributed a huge part to the design and idea. It’s possible a computer animator did the actual graphics or something and based it off gg’s sketch.

I find even that unlikely. GG has more than enough skill to complete the final artwork. There's no reason why anyone else would need to have any hand in it at all.

Wow thanks for your post about their timeline. Very interesting. I used to think that's they met again in CQL and dd approached gg etc, like most ppl. But it's bugging me how quick the progress is. Like, so quick. The very first day shooting they already in that familiar stage. Less than 2 months later, dd seen with same clothes as previous day after spending night with gg. Every adult knows what it's implied. 1/2

and yb after being shy or *cough*coward*cough* for a year, suddenly going in a full speed that in less than 2 months he and gg already spent time together off screen, with the whole 'same clothes' the next day? I mean it's possible, but. I still believe they become 'official' after the shooting ended. But yeah the question was how far the things go when it's filming or even before it. And don't forget, they USED EACH OTHER PHONE. Does persons who know e/o less than 6 months do that? IDEK 2/2

BINGO. You hit the nail on the head. There’s no internally consistent logic to the idea that DD was too shy to hit GG up on WeChat, but amazingly had a full-on rapport by the first day of filming, and within no time was telling him he loved him in front of the entire crew (and by extension, the world).

DD would have had countless occasions/excuses to contact GG on WeChat after DDU.

“Saw your performance on (insert show here), was great!”

“Congrats on (insert event here).”

etc. etc.

A guy who is that into someone (and if you believe he was that shy, you believe he was that into GG), is going to find an excuse to chat. 100%. People who think otherwise can’t be thinking clearly. DD might be a reserved, shy guy in some scenarios, but he’s also someone who regularly has to meet new people as part of his career, who goes onstage regularly, who gets in front of cameras on a regular basis, who is quite often bold and outspoken.

Maybe you’re an introvert and you can relate to crippling shyness and just don’t see DD contacting GG on WeChat, but are you also able to get on a stage, get in front of a TV camera, go out onto a TV set and meet new people every week? All these things DD does as part of his daily life. He’s not as shy as all that.

And conversely, there would have been dozens of opportunities for GG to connect with DD, even just out of politeness (which we can all agree he has in abundance). 

If all else failed, there’s liquid courage, something I could totally see DD turning to. If a guy like him has strong feelings and a strong attraction, and the means to connect with someone via chat - he’s totally going to make it happen.

I flip flop between different timeline but I generally agree with everything you said here. I just to add “evidence” to me that supports this post:

1) 6/18/18 after their Japanese dinner date, dd was seen in almost head to toe the exact same outfit at the airport on 6/19 (with exception of the jacket and I can’t see the shoes.) If you’ve been to college, you know what it means when you see someone with the same outfit as the previous night, especially if you knew they had a date. He was also extra cheerful and “glowing” in his filming of Happy Camp the next day.

2) 6/22/18, gg posted a very interesting memo with an interesting song and kadian (full translation.) This memo was a comment respond to a post he posted in 2015, which said “Some words should be kept in your heart.” I think this makes sense that this is the moment gg started to confirm his feelings but he didn’t convey them to dd, at least not in person. 

3) GG not only said he found love after waking up from a dream, he said he met his love within the dream. I still firmly believe the dream = filming and being in the MDZS world.

4) DD seemed REALLY upset and mad at gg the last day of filming when they were taking the picture. Usually he would laugh if gg said or do something silly but that day, he seem to think everything gg did was “stupid.” I think maybe gg asked him to distant that day.

5) DD’s state in summer 2019 during promotion is like someone who just started a new relationship and is very insecure about it. He had to constantly touch the ox necklace for security and (rumor from solo fans) put it in a special box if he has to take it off for filming.

And yeah, that airport walk of shame by DD was total proof something went down between them. Whether it was the first time or not is hard to say, but he clearly didn’t go home the night before.

1. So I believe in the devils timeline alot more, i really do believe that yibo was into xz in 2016 and that they dated for a while but I guess dating an 18 year old was not what xz wanted to continue and they broke up. If u watch the ddu episode with xnine, yibo was a mess but xz was also very aware of where yibo was and kept an eye on him at all times. Also 2016 was when xz was starting his career so I do think he wasnt ready for the commitment.

2. All yibo fans talking abt him talking abt an ex in ddu have conveniently forgotten what he said that day or how he never defined the gender of his ex, he told the other hosts that he went out someone for a while and ultimately broke up coz they didnt want to commit and wanted the relationship to be ambiguous and he didnt like being in a relationship like that so he was the one who broke up. 

3. I also think yibo asked for the wechat and wanted to contact him again. Maybe I'm over thinking everything but it seems so plausible. i also think that xz gave yibo the response he wanted for commiting to a job with xz when his fandom was hating him so much than. he risked alot just to be in the show with xz, we do know yibo is a go getter and isnt shy about going after what he wants (his whole team from sdc3 are a testament to that)

I’m not at all familiar with this timeline/theory, but just based on what you’ve said it doesn’t really make a lot of sense to me. I think if they had dated before that DD would have been fine with asking for GG’s contact info. It also sounds out of character for GG to date an 18 year old for a while and then discard him.

I also don’t think that GG and DD’s relationship has the aura of an old rekindled flame (with all its accompanying baggage). Their connection gives off the very sweet, pure feeling of a new romance.

As for the ex DD discusses in Day Day Up, I think it’s likely DD has had some dating experience(s) prior to GG. I don’t think GG is the only person he’s ever had eyes for or been involved with on some level. Although based on what he’s said in the past, I doubt his list of exes is very long.
