it is both a disaster and a blessing to be born strange. if fate spirals out of control and leads me into the deepest chasm, i will tread upon your flesh to find my way back.
โค i donโt follow everyone back, but Iโm generally open to it as long as i see some writing on your blog. Fair warning that i do like chatter, so expect a mix of yapping and writing around here. if youโre looking for a strictly writing-only space, this might not be the blog for you.
i am over thirty years old, and between that and some dark subject matter that might be present in my writing, this is blog is a space intended only for other adults.
โค some of the muses on this mumu are a bit prickly, but if you came here from coquelic and were alright with her, you should be alright with anyone you meet here, although your mileage may vary with three in particular. content present may broadly include abuse/abusive language, suicide, canon-typical violence, and narrated gore. muse-specific triggers can be found on their dossiers.
i try to write fairly regularly, but coquelic usually has my braincells locked down, so all i can really say is that i'll do things here as i feel like it! rest assured that i do want to write the muses on this blog even if i might be slow to do so.i'll use some icons, but not many/not always.
i like threads much more than one-shot asks, so if my response to your prompt happens to scratch your brain i encourage and would be delighted for you to continue it in a thread.
โค i expect and extend all standard etiquette in regards to godmodding, theft, etc. i don't care about reblog karma; reblog whatever memes or quotes you want, just don't interact with in-character content you're not part of.
โค iโm open to shipping, in theory, but it's not my motivation when i write. i don't really like to ship 'cold-handed' and prefer that our muses have already interacted and have established some chemistry.
โค i don't do discourse. i am here to write characters i like with people i like. i'm not a 'taboo writer' and won't write with those who are, but i find most pervasive fandom discourse to be reductive. i'm aware that there are extenuating circumstances at times that warrant a callout, but if it's something that could have been resolved with healthy conflict resolution skills, i prefer to mind my own business โ trust me when i say youโll have a happier, healthier time if you mind your own.
โค all imagery of my muses' likeness(es?) will be officially sourced, commercial, or by artists who explicitly permit the use of their work.
โฏ | The delicate billow of her silk garments flowed as easily as the faint smoke from her incense burner, a boshanlu. It floated along beside her like a ghost, usually amused that no one ever seemed to question this ability of hers -- today, she was too focused on the task at hand to busy herself with such idle enjoyments.
Still, as her light footsteps came to a halt outside the younger Seer's quarters, her expression softened considerably. Her feet stopping dutifully just against the threshold of Wuhuanzi's room as she was warned of the misfortune awaiting her if she passed it.
Ruo spared a glance towards the staff as they begrudgingly trailed down the corridor, before turning her full attention back to her fellow kin now trapped in this foreign land. Relaxing enough to even show the jade hue of her gaze.
Her smile broadened, her voice gentle, giving a deep bow before gingerly lowering herself to a steat on her knees, careful not to let even a strand of thread from her clothes slip past the barrier the little healer had requested.
Living by such rules was simply commonplace, it was barely worth a second thought. They lacked the hypercubes available to the rest of the world, and had to live by stringent measures to ward off mania. Though Disians still scoffed at their practices, Eastia was still around for a reason.
ย ย ย ย ย IT'S REFRESHING, HAVING HER PORTENTS MET WITH SOME MANNER OF RESPECT. ย ย much of the mbcc staff dismisses them as the superstitions of a foreign quack doctor, even if some are polite enough to humor her warnings. for that reason wuhuanzi often takes it upon herself to keep to her own quarters; if others will not keep their distance, she might at least be certain of her own.
โ i see. it's a pleasure to meet you, du ruo. i haven't seen met anyone from eastia apart from the other seers here for... a while. โ
granted du ruo's grace, her demeanor visibly eases somewhat. wuhuanzi pulls her gaze up from the floor. soft-spoken as she may be, she bears the steadiness of someone who's traveled far, and traveled alone.
โ i was detained not long after the incident with the fรชte and the wisteria tree. supposedly, it is because i was practicing medicine without a licensed sanctioned by discity. but i assure you that i've committed no malpractice. โ
in truth, something about it has always struck her as odd โ or at least not entirely honest. chief, she believes, is an earnest and kindly person. it's part of why she accepted her arrest without protest, and why she hasn't bothered to press the issue aloud. but du ruo, who shares her homeland, will almost certainly understand her perspective.
โ ... i must admit, though, that it feels... petty. or perhaps like a formality. if my credentials were a concern, i would imagine there would be some path for me to obtain them and correct this supposed wrong, but none has been offered. i am sure that i'm here simply because i am what they refer to as a 'sinner'. โ resignation settling in, she sighs. โ it's par the course with my luck, i suppose. โ
ย ย ย ย ย โ aww, thank you ! โ her tail slips behind her fellow monster, slithering up through the air to poke at the back of her shoulder. โ i was just soooo repressed under the thumb of those fraser stooges, ya know ? being annoying feels pretty good ! โ
่กๅฆ | โ IโLL BE REVIEWING your case today, โ she said, her formality a matter of practiced etiquette. the polite cadence did little to soften the displeasure beneath, nor was it meant to. surveying a detained child felt barbaric workโthough someone, it seemed, had to do it.
better she be the instrument of bureaucracy than leave the task to hands without conscience.ย
the crease between her brows wasnโt for the girl. it lingered nonetheless, directed at the beige folder in her holdโโthe kind still kept because no one had bothered to digitise the archives. tsubaki preferred it that way. the feel of something real. there was honesty in paper.
she opened itโthe hinge gave way and the words within submit to her scrutiny.
โI see,โ she said after a pause, voice low. โyou were caught practising medicine without a licence.โ
โIโve been asked to understand more about the type of medicine you practice, wuhuanzi.โ / @crimebrand
ย ย ย ย ย WUHUANZI ISN'T CERTAIN IF THIS COUNTS AS PART OF HER INTERROGATION.ย it feels adjacent to one, but she had already met with the chief ... so perhaps this is something else entirely ?ย
truthfully she would have preferred to stay in her cell โ her readings for today's fortunes were poor, and at least in her quarters that bad luck has fewer things of consequence to cling to.
but 'procedure' apparently beats out omens, and so โ here she is.
โ ... these. โ the paper talisman flutters between her fingers when she finally answers, held up like an exhibit. โ my power is to infuse these talismans with spiritual power. when released, they can alter the state of matter. they work if stuck to a patient, but are more effective when ingested. โ
an unhurried pause.
โ i also can perform acupuncture, acupressure, and brew remedies from medicinal herbs. โ
โฏ | Eastian Envoy -- her official title in Dis. Lauded with praise and respect on the surface, and mired with a slog of distrust under the seemingly placid waters. Though she'd provided council to the city's favorite hound time and time again; for the Sun Crow, for the little Yao, for the crisis caused by Yugu's stories and the Wisteria tree... she still wasn't trusted.
The tug of the shackles on her mind and soul did seem to soothe the wounded egos and pride of the Outlands Affairs Bureau, that frequently went out the window every time she showed up on the city's doorstep without alerting any of their typical precautions against Outlanders. With a compass tucked in her pocket, she'd managed to make it quite far into the city before being picked up.ย
Of course she smiled gently, kept her enlightened demeanor all the way to the MBCC's doorstep. Some nonsense about 'new Sinner registration protocols' spat at her on the way. 'You understand'.
"๐๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ ๐. ๐ผ ๐ข๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐๐ฆ."ย She did... just, not in the way she was implying. She understood they were cowards who feared Seers-- no, Sinners,ย and more to the point... Outlanders. Her words were slow and rhythmic, meant to lull others into a false sense of security. Even such distrustful, xenophobic men, could be soothed in such a way. It wouldn't erase their hatred, but... they were oh so quick to believe such a delicate Eastian woman would be easily dominated.
Still, she wasn't here for them. Not even here for the Eastian alliance, not entirely anyways. She'd come to see a particular Seer that was being detained without the Eastian delegation's approval-- heavens knew such an action from Eastia to a Sinner from Dis would have had a certain set of people breathing down her neck... But she was here to offer some grace and peace.
She entered the Bureau, trading Disian public officials for MBCC staff-- a welcome releif.ย Ruo gave a gentle bow in greeting,ย "๐ผ'๐ โ๐๐๐ ๐ก๐ ๐ ๐๐ ๐๐ขโ๐ข๐๐๐ง๐."ย her narrow gaze hiding her eyes from sight, but still keeping a wary lookout as she ignored the fact she'd been told she was being taken to the Bureau for "Advanced Sinner Registration Protocols."
ย ย ย ย ย SHE'S FROM EASTIA. ย wuhuanzi can tell as much at a glance, that sense of familiarity that comes with seeing someone else who shares one's origins. she watches quietly as the mbcc staff guides the older woman to her quarters โ cell, technically, but she's been allowed the small mercy of some decor: a few books on contemporary medicine, blank talismans awaiting inscriptions, and a handful of herbs that had been closely scrutinized before being allowed into her possession. her travel pack has a new home on the floor by her bed, and some charms futilely meant to ward off her ill fortune cling to each junction of the walls. for all that, her quarters remain plain โ wuhuanzi has never been lavish.
โ ... that's me. i'm wuhuanzi. โ a soft-spoken affirmation. her gaze drifts briefly, following the staffers as they step aside before blinking back to attention. this woman has the bearing of someone important. she recalls mention of chief having sought the insight of someone from eastia during the incident of the fรชte; perhaps this is her.
she'd heard about the ten-suns calamity that nearly razed discity some time ago, and by extension she knows, in passing, about the eastian delegation. eastians are rare enough here that some people can't help but ask 'if she knows anyone in it' or even 'if she was there'. they're absurd questions, ones she's sure are never asked of disians, but she's always sighed and let it be.
however, this is no random eastian woman, and she walks through the bureau too deliberately to be a new face to it. wuhuanzi feels cautiously secure in putting two and two together.
โ ah, you should stay on that side of the threshold. โ she speaks up again, tone still mild, when it seems like du ruo is about to move to enter. โ the omens for today are not good ... but you should be spared from misfortune if you keep a little space. โ
i know the standard of horrible ptn woman is like... shin who recently unseated cabernet but i think chameleon warrants some fear.
like i think it bears acknowledging how horrible an experience chief's interrogation w her would be - that was three sections of near-unreality where we were perceiving real events as a dream and couldn't deploy the shackles because chameleon had tampered so badly with their sense of lucidity. she selectively suppressed chief's memories to hide aspects of her hypnosis.
like i get that it's not the naval cosmic horror of echoless dive and abyssal tentaculum but a person's sense of self is built upon their memories and experiences. when asked "who are you" people usually answer with something extrapolated from those things. to have someone play jenga with that is like deeply and existentially invasive
i think most ppl who know me know that im sapphic but sometimes it feels like my fem lean must be even stronger than i initially figured bc i see fandom spaces collectively go crazy over the latest male unit in a gacha and i go look at him and its like the most okayest man ever
โ you better back off from hella. consider this your first and last warning โ // synex MEOW
ย ย ย ย ย โ now, now โ you don't have to be a spoil sport about it. i haven't done anything that bad to her. โ this might be technically true, though it rarely ever feels like that's the case. hella is her favorite rat to playfully bat around, but synex also earnestly likes rats. adaptable little things that excel at surviving, there's a lot to admire about their nature.
not that any of that opinion can be surmised while she stands there, clawed fingers kneading and tugging on either side of hella's beanie like it's putty.
โ a tail-poke on the shoulder here, holding things up over head there ~ little hella's just someone i like to tease a bit. keeps her on her toes. โ
my favorite thing about synex is that her gameplay is so mid outside of story content that most "expert pull advice" is to only pull her for love. and then everyone loved her
obsessed with synex because she has "shadow operative" mode where she just kinda seems sly and bitchy but then the tail comes out and it turns out she's just a ragebaiter because its funny
