One of the funniest things about Blades is the absolute lack of an explanation of how MC acquires skills. They start out with two and you have to assume they're learning the others in real time (or else they'd be using them all and be seriously OP from the start). So yeah, MC actually taught themself animal languages on the fly. They just learned how to will themself to see in the dark. This sword? Learned how to wield it like a pro mid-fight. Couldn't flirt to save their life before, but after a couple of days on the road they can and will seduce the whole shadow court. MC is accidentally the most competent mf alive.

Unparalleled. I hope they continue to never acknowledge this.

Yet another missed opportunity from writing Aerin out of Blades 2 is the ability to have a slow burn enemies-to-lovers route with him. I previously touched briefly on the fact that he has no route if you didn't romance him in book 1, and he is essentially entirely paywalled; every scene to develop his relationship is one you have to pay for: the lake, having him a bit longer in b2, the kiss, and the two hookups.

But because he's barely in the story, you don't get a chance for MC to be truly angry and hurt over what he did. Pretty much every time there is a chance to be angry, you have to choose between that or a romantic choice, and, again, since he's barely in the story, you can't really afford to be rejecting the romance choices if you want to have a route with him (and in my opinion, the very sparse canon dialogue of MC being mad at him just comes off as needlessly rude, not heartbroken or betrayed).

I just want my MC to go off, to not sweep stuff under the rug, to expect to be betrayed again, but to ultimately choose to take the risk of trusting him again. Instead, I have to play her as a bit of a pushover just to develop their relationship. The ch 8 dialogue if MC was wary of trusting him was really good, and I think we should have been able to explore that dynamic more. And this isn't even going into how well their stories could have mirrored each other's and helped each other's development... just overall a missed opportunity.

If PB still did mini books like they did for The Freshman, I would’ve loved to see one for each of the Blades races: one about elf MC rebuilding House Nightbloom, one about orc MC sailing and bonding with their newfound family, and one about human MC staking their claim to the throne of Parnassus. Make them cost diamonds to access like they used to and I’d drop everything to play all three.

In a much earlier chapter, when Nia is struggling with Shadow corruption, you can say “Maybe Aerin can help” and that option actually gives you XP as though it’s the correct response (along one other dialogue option which is also correct and gives XP).

So that is completely hilarious and ridiculous now that we realize all Aerin would have been able to say to Nia is “Okay, if you have a Nerada Stone embedded in you, you have to forcibly rip it out of yourself. Like ripping off a Band-Aid, but so much worse.”

“I do not.”

“Ah, then I got nothing. Okay hahah good luck with that.”
