Change
I’ve been weighing whether or not to put this out there in the world and decided to go for it since whatever happens will happen anyway, que sera sera and #yolo or else mortality. I will get back to this in the further course of this rambling.
First of all, I’d like to say that we live in a very fragile world at this point in time. The main issue of the 21st century is the climate crisis we’re all affected by and we’re all going to have to face. There is absolutely no question about this.
I’ve heard a lot of people say that the problem is so big it’s virtually impossible to generate some real substantial changes that are not going to be frugal at the end of the day.
That’s not true, of course. We can change things for the better if we all pull on one string and stick together as a unity. But this also includes facing and eliminating some subordinate issues that go hand in hand with major issues such as the climate crisis.
Facing and eliminating. One of these mentioned subordinate issues are selfishness of the individual and ignorance.
I’m well aware that the collective consciousness is now there that the planet is and will be changing and that’s the first step toward a brighter and better future. I’m also well aware that these issues do not apply to everyone, there is no black and white as always, there is a lot of grey, truth be told.
But I’ve come across and encountered many people these past few weeks and months that have everything a starving child from Cambodia could ever hope for and they’re still wanting more.
Greed is the big brother of selfishness and those two are the real dilemma, they are the devil’s advocats, the real enemies we have to fight.
I’ve seen men going to ridiculous lengths to satisfy their sexual needs, no matter how relentless they had to be at the end of the day and no matter how pretty their wife was.
I’ve met people who could only ever talk or think about money.
I see women and men alike on Instagram every day that apparently have nothing better to do with their lives than worry about what they look like and how they want to be perceived by society. Looks are not important, guys. Ask any person out there who had to face or faces fatal diseases, such as cancer.
I understand we are all to some extent slaves of capitalism at the end of the day, slaves of governments bullshitting us on a daily basis, media influencing us positively but mostly negatively on so many levels. That makes it difficult sometimes to function as a human being outside of the rigid realm and schedules we find ourselves in.
Outside of that can mean going out of your way to help a perfect stranger that is in need, help animals voluntarily or even just reconsidering your eating habits or any habit that you might have developed over time.
The truth is proliferating selfishness and hence lack of empathy is not going to get us anywhere, especially considering the major issues we now have to face.
Bottom line: #yolo
which basically leaves you with two options: A) you continue with your selfishness, thinking it’s all going to hell anyway and remain oblivious to the naked truth of things or B) you go the other way and start changes for your own life, become a better person, put the focus not so much on yourself but on your surroundings and their betterment.
These are the thoughts that have been occupying my mind and I know I could write a book on this since these issues are so vast and I’ve only scratched the surface of all the ins and outs related to this. But I’ll leave it at this for now.
I just hope this will resonate with some of you and I hope you will make the right decision, not only for yourself but for your children, for all of us and most of all for the only truly and utterly good and pure thing we have in this life: our planet.
