(basically false thinks abt the events of hc8 and seeks comfort from ren >_<)
Ren turns to look at her tilting his head ever so slightly, a wordless question, ‘Are you ok?’
She thinks for a moment about floating blocks and shaking earth, the quick almost careless goodbyes that were said and the devastatingly earnest ones that weren’t. The quiet betrayal of leaving a doomed bunker.
She thinks about communications getting cut off, the serenity of space and how suffocating its silence is when you're so used to noise. The cold of the void is striking when compared to the warmth of Ren’s hand in hers.
Fuck it.
She leans forward to lay her head against his shoulder. He tenses slightly and hesitates for the briefest of seconds, clearly caught off guard, but drops his shoulder and adjusts to let her rest more comfortably. She takes the opportunity to move into the crook of his neck, face hidden from the growing amusement on their friends’ faces.
‘I need you’ she says in all but words.
He lets go of her hand to wrap his arms around her.
He gives her a squeeze, ‘I’m here’.
Ren smells like alcohol and smoke from the barbeque and it's not the most pleasant thing in the world, nor is it False's favourite scent- but it's Ren and he’s here and he's holding her in his arms and everything feels like it's going to be alright.
The warmth in her chest spreads out, it feels like she’s burning up from the inside-out and False knows it's not just the alcohol making her run hot. She can hear someone faintly telling them to get a room but her body feels heavy and her heart’s beating like drum, and normally it makes her sick to be weak where everyone can see her but Ren’s pulse is like a jackhammer against her head so he’s freaking out too and-
Who knew alcohol made her so bold?
She doesn't move from her position, taking deep breaths and enjoying the warmth of Ren’s company. He slowly relaxes too, heart slowing to a steady metronome she uses to count her breaths.

She’s shaken awake gently. It takes a few blinks before her eyes adjust to the sudden darkness that surrounds her, and even then sleep clings to her making her eyelids heavy. She resists the urge and looks at the world around her. The roaring fire has now become a small flame, barely clinging on to the last vestiges of life and most of their friends have left already.
She hears Ren clearing his throat and when she turns to look at him. She's briefly stunned by the bashful look on his face, even in the moonlight and the dying fire she can see how red his face is. Its… Its cute. How he can't hide his emotions.
Yeah.
“C’mon Falsie, let's get you home” he says.
As they go to stand, Ren holds his arms out as if to catch her if she loses balance. It's a sweet thoughtful gesture but False feels significantly less drunk than she did earlier that night so she stands perfectly fine, albeit missing her usual grace. They bid Joe farewell and thank him for hosting the party before making their way to the otherside of the river.
A small breeze passes through and False finds that she's still pleasantly warm. She then realizes, embarrassingly late, that the reason for that is the distinct pink cardigan draped over her shoulders. The wool is warm and soft when she takes it into her hands
