But I Want You More, I Want You More, As If Iād Never Said Beforeā¦
[Cristian @cristian-rosasco & Diana || August 18th 2019]
It was the way that Cristian expressed how he would miss her, so simply, that had Diana smiling up at him and feeling a mixture of relief and happiness. It was a bittersweet moment for her, knowing that he would miss having her around, but knowing that she would have to leave. It was inevitable.Ā āI hope you know that Iām going to miss being here. Iām going to miss being with you⦠here. Youāll be busy soon, too. Maybe thatāll help you so youāre not thinking about the fact that Iām not here.ā But there was a certain ache in her chest at the idea of not being able to wake up and find him there, or somewhere nearby.
Her eyes met his when he peeked in her direction after he asked for her to let him know if there was anything he could do. She considered it again, telling him that she was looking at her options here. There was one that was interesting, one that if she could manage to successfully apply, it would work perfectly. Of course, applying for residency was just that, applying, there was no guarantee that she would be accepted and that she would be able to work here. There was still a chance she would be in the States, or even England or Scotland, and not with him in Italy at the end of it all.
Smiling at his explaining where he got the syrup she met his gaze,Ā āWell, if you think itās addicting, Iām sure that Iāll love it too. Except, if itās good enough, Iāll want to take some home with me.ā Now that he was seated with her, she took a bite of the French toast and made a sound of appreciation, her eyes lifting to him again.Ā āYou werenāt kidding, itās so good. My God, do you have an unopened jar? Or can I get one before going home? I have to have this.āĀ
After another bite, or so, she settled back in her seat and watched him for a moment.Ā āGoing back to residency, I think maybe I should let you know something,ā she began carefully, her eyes dropping to the French toast on her plate.Ā āIām looking at different locations to apply. Obviously, Iām thinking of applying in New York City, but also England, and Scotland⦠but Iāve been really looking at applying here⦠in Rome.ā She looked up at him shyly.Ā āItās still a long shot, but thereās a hospital here that would give me a chance to work with pediatrics in emergency medicine, and I would be able to use my research. Might be able to back up what Iāve been working on, and help along my publication⦠if I get published. I was just thinking⦠itās a year off still, and if⦠well, it might be nice to be here for those three years⦠if I were to be accepted, that is.ā
Cristian chuckled, eyeing the syrup in Dianaās hand and quirking a brow, an amused smile pulling at his lips.Ā āYou can certainly try,ā he said, reaching for it himself to pour a drizzle over the pieces of French toast he had,Ā ābut you will have to fight me for it, and I have an inkling I would win.ā Setting the bottle back in between them, he glimpsed over and winked when Diana looked back, finding himself laughing louder as she agreed on the delicious flavor.Ā āI suppose I could spare you the extra bottle I have, but only because Iām sure sheās already sold out. Next time you will have to fend for yourself, Iām afraid,ā he teased, cutting off a piece of his own breakfast and taking a quick bite when the blonde continued speaking.
Now, it would be a lie if he were to say that he didnāt feel his heart skip a beat, that his stomach didnāt twist up in excitement at the prospect of Diana before so close to him during her residency. As much as he hated it, it was something he had already considered, what were to happen when she became so ungodly busy that spare time would be far and few in between with their conflicting schedules. The summer had been a blessing and a curse, offering more time than necessary and indulging him in her company, but then also making him rather ... Well, to be frank, dependent on her frequent company. It was for that reason that he found his breath catching at the prospect of not having to suffer for too long, but he bit down on his tongue to fight off the grin that wanted to break onto his face.
āI think that would be wonderful,ā Cristian replied sincerely, hoping that whatever excitement he was feeling wasnāt betraying him by washing over the words he spoke.Ā āAnd just think, you would not have to worry about running out of this syrup.ā
