something I really like about ntbts is like. Every other show or movie I’ve seen that’s heavily improvised always sounds like improv. Like the dialogue doesn’t sound like a movie OR real conversation. The characters usually seem as if they’re trying to one-up or yes-and each other. But the conversations in ntbts never sound like that. They always respond how their characters would respond, even if it means shutting down the other character’s joke & as a result they always sound like best friends having a conversation with each other. Which of course they are

you know, despite my strong feelings about both of these songs, in how they close out and open different "eras" of they might be giants and that's almost perceptible in their sound, I've never before gone from "space suit" directly to "subliminal" before. and wow. the melancholic accordion transition into a grittier rock song was a more visceral experience than I'd anticipated.

#this this it's one of my favourite things ever.

it's fun being a person who thinks hyperbolic anger/irritation and insults that are so exaggerated and generic they're clearly not coming from a place of genuine contempt are funny, but at the same time, very sensitive to anything I perceive coming off someone as negative (rightly or wrongly) being a sign that they are personally so so mad at me. so in many social situations, I'm in a state of emotional purgatory.

#autism saw trap.#genuine anger or seething puts me horribly on edge (bad-tempered family. lmao)#but fake anger or flat disappointment is hilarious and actually has the effect of putting me at ease.#because they're diffusing the situation with humour #and what they're actually communicating is ''it's OK! I'm not judging you for anything you're doing right now #and I'm going to make you laugh now to show that''.#because if someone was genuinely annoyed with you they wouldn't put the energy into doing that.#and I think someone exaggerating something puts any problems you're magnifying into perspective and grounds you a bit.#similarly to this #who was it who posted about being asked about allergies before a surgery and responded only to [I forgot what it was].#and the surgeon said something like 'OK for this next part we're going to inject an entire [allergy] into you.''#that's comforting right LMAO it's cute.#I have the sense of humour of a toddler who's being told their lightly bruised arm needs to be chopped off 😭
