My Nain (Welsh for Gran), began teaching me to crochet and knit at a very early age. I wasn’t too keen on it to begin with as I wasn’t able to actually make any progress. The knitting never really caught on, but fast forward 20ish Years and I have found myself picking up my Crochet hooks once again. I started by making granny square blankets and scarves. Once my little boy was born in 2016, I found myself wanting to make some little items for him. I watched multiple YouTube videos on how to crochet various different baby items but found myself At a loss with only a 5mm hook and random bits of wool to work with. Last Christmas (2017) my sister in law bought me a crochet set. I was able to finally try some different patterns!! In the beginning of 2018, there was a post on Facebook from the local community asking if any Crocheters or knitters were able to help out with a small project. The project was to make poppies for the local church so that we could make a wall of poppies. Myself, my sister and my Gran (different Gran to the one mentioned above) all decided to “have a go”. We attended the first session and that was it - I was hooked (excuse the terrible pun). Near 10,000 poppies later and the community is still going! I have decided to create this website to upload our progress as a group as well as my own accomplishments and creations. I hope you enjoy browsing through.
I’m so proud of our Crochet group on achieving this amazing goal. We started back in January of 2018 (for those who don’t follow my blog posts regularly) to crochet and knit Remembrance Poppies for the centenary of the end of the First World War. As a community (and some further away) we have managed to knit or crochet over 22,000 poppies for the display! It was so amazing to be able to go and see what we have been working on in all its amazing glory the other day and be able to share that moment with my Son! We will be having our own little service this weekend and I will then get to share the experience with my Partner and my other family members! So emotional ♥️
I started a baby blanket! The colours in this wool are just amazing and I can’t wait to see the finished result!
I’ve been buying my wool from PoundStretchers lately and have been loving the small selection they have. The wool is ideal for projects that are going to be for babies as it is so soft. I have also bought some Aran wool to complete a cardigan that I started to Crochet for my Nain. The prices aren’t too steep either so it’s a win all round! ♥️
I’m supposed to be doing my QCF work. Nearly complete my Level 5 Qualification 😊 🎉But thought I would take a break and crochet a little tonight. It’s been a while since I tried something new and this 12pointstarblanket seemed like a good place to start 🌟 ♥️
