Part 2 of the amusing Thief walkthroughs: it-he.org/theef2.php
They have Thief 1, Thief 2, and several other games. While I have not examined those, I'm sure they contain a similar quality to the Thief ones, which are both an extremely good time to read. If you like Thief and have a bit of time to spare, I'd highly recommend reading through these.
If you buy Thief Gold on Steam, there can be a problem where the cutscenes don't show.
Someone I know is having that problem, so I thought I'd post here what I told them: there are a few ways this problem could be solved.
Try running Steam as an administrator. This can fix the issue, and it's the first thing you should try.
Install a patch. Specifically, TFix. If you want the fewest changes to the game or don't have space, Tfix Lite is also available on the linked page and should fix the problem. Here's the link to a post that contains both: https://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134733
In the meantime or if you don't feel like messing around on your computer, the cutscenes can be found online pretty easily by searching up 'Thief 1 cutscenes' or similar phrases.
If none of these are working for you, some people have mentioned installing codecs or going into your file system. I haven't done these so I can't vouch for either, but you can find instructions for both if you so choose.
I love how blatantly the style of the walls (which is standard Mechanist style) clashes with the style of the carpet (which has a pattern you’d see in a noble house). The Mechanist style features metal everywhere, usually in cold bright colours like blue, grey or white - it comes across as inhospitable (even if the pattern here itself is beautiful in a modern sort of way), plus you instinctively dislike it because this kind of floor is the second loudest in the game and you can’t run on it without drawing attention from everyone in the hemisphere. Their structures are hostile, unpleasant, brutalist.
And yet here, they invite the local nobility claiming to look for supporters, so they have to appeal to them, humor them, pander to them. They put this carpet into the rooms where the guests will be staying. I’d bet those carpets will be gone again as soon as the guests leave, unless the mechanists want to keep the option of having Angelwatch as a meeting place for Mechanists and outsiders for a while longer. In the places where the Mechanists are by themselves, if they use any carpets at all, those look like this:
(Disregard the person on the left, he’s merely asleep in some bloods.)
The standard “old world” carpets with their fancy, colourful, rounded patterns clash with the austere, modern, minimalist style of the Mechanist - it’s like the game is telling you visually that the Mechanists are disguising themselves as something they’re not in order to fool the nobles. Which indeed they are, as you find out a little later.
i finally found the chaotic Thief walkthrough again
Dark Narrative: Lord Bafford's Manor
A look at narrative design in the first mission of Thief: The Dark Project, Lord Bafford’s Manor. This piece considers AI conversations, readables, and objects in the gameworld and their contribution to the creation of narrative. from N4G: all news feed http://ift.tt/2nA0EHe from Blogger http://ift.tt/2nANtFT

Just wanted to share that I know someone who recently started playing through Thief Gold and found 12 loot in Lord Bafford's Manor. There's a total of 1429 loot in that level, and 12 is less than 1% of the total. Now that's talent.
It's also really fun (and funny) to watch someone else experience Thief for the first time, especially since stealth is not their default style of play. In response to their results, I've encouraged them to explore the levels instead of going straight to the main objective.
My favorite video game ever, Thief: The Dark Project, had it’s 20th-anniversary release this year so I had to celebrate the event by creating this poster.
True fans can buy a print of this over my store at Society6: https://society6.com/product/thief-20th-anniversary_print

So for everyone who’s interested, here’s the loot pick-up noise from Thief: The Dark Project in a nice mp3 so you can use it for whatever your heart desires. It’s now my text alert.
Today I finally had time to start playing Styx: Master of Shadows. It's one of those stealth games that gets brought up pretty often when Thief fans on the internet recommend titles for other Thief fans to play, so I was curious.
I'm not very far in so I can't give a full review, but so far it seems good. There are definitely a few problems I found rather noticeable, but nothing that breaks the game. There are also some things I like quite a lot. If the quality keeps up I'll probably become one of those Thief fans on the internet who recommends it. It's pretty fun.
Elaborations below.
Thief Gold is a masterpiece.
So, based on my previous collection of Thief tags, these are the ones that seem (relatively) alive:
#thief
#thief series
#thief the dark project
#thief: the dark project
#the dark project
#thief gold
#thief: gold
#thief the metal age
#thief 2
#the metal age
#thief 3
#thief deadly shadows
By alive, I mean that they have a good amount of content and over 3 posts from 2021. Thi4f and varied content below cutoff. #thief trilogy is inconclusive.
I composed a piece paying tribute to one of the greatest games of all time, Thief: The Dark Project, for its 20th Anniversary. Eric Brosius was a genius.
Take a listen, Taffer!
In 2017, the film company Straight Up Films released a statement saying that a fifth Thief game (Thief 5) was in development along with the movie adaptation of the franchise that they were making. One of the Thi4f devs, David Anfossi, responded by saying that there would be no Thief 5.
Both Thief 5 and the film adaptation were to be set in the City of Thi4f. Straight Up Films has removed their announcement from their website, though there is still an article elsewhere on the site. There's pretty much nothing more recent than 2017 talking about a Thief movie, so I don't think it went anywhere.
I'm honestly glad nothing came of all that. Sources below cutoff.
All right. I need to do this before I go insane while trying to tag things.
Organizing the Thief tags. Long post. Probably not that interesting. Tags under cutoff because there are a lot. Here is my format:
Category
#tag name - (notes: other uses, size, time of most recent post. dead or alive.)
#tag name - (notes: not in use / has other use)
Alive tags are at the top of the category. All information is current to November 2021 and may change in the future.
Edit: these were originally links but 90% of them broke so now they're not
