Tom Jones & Little Richard - Rock ‘n’ Roll Medley (1969)
And then sometimes the autumn sunlight reflecting off the building behind mine pours through my window and creates some unexpected, but pretty, colours.
In more “normal” light, for instance, if you were asked the colour of the pickguard on this 2006 Stratocaster Relic your first response would probably be to say “white”. It’s not purely white though…it has a tiny hint of green in it - just a small accent…a soupçon if you will (and even if you won’t!).
The official name for the colour of this ‘guard is “mint”, but under normal light it’s just vaguely green. This strange, reflected, back-window light accentuates the green so much you’d wonder why you ever thought it was white!
So why do they put “mint” pickguards on Stratocaster reissues? I think it’s because the white pickguards on the original, real, actual, no foolin’ vintage Strats often turned slightly green naturally over many decades.
If this was not a real-life phenomenon, I doubt anyone would have even thought to try a slightly greenish pickguard instead of a white one! But I am glad Leo’s original materials were shoddy and unstable enough to change colour over time…because I think mint looks amazing! Don’t believe me? Put two olympic white Strats side by side, one with a white ‘guard and the other with a mint ‘guard. I think you will agree the mint actually looks better than the white! And if not, then, well, f*ck you! :D
Truth. My olympic white '62 AVRI strat has the mint pickguard. So hot.
