"You play piano? I was mostly into guitar and..computer generated music.” Alan replied, nodding his head thoughtfully. “Maybe I should get back into it.”

His brow furrowed a little when they got onto the conversation of things they liked. “Not really. I’ll try to think on it, though, and get back to you.” He replied, offering an awkward half smile back.

“You build robots? That’s pretty extreme for a hobby.I’d count crappy movies as a hobby, I guess. I don’t know why putting yourself through shit like that would be fun though.”

Alan raised an eyebrow at Theo. “Dancing? You dance, too? You don’t really look the type.” He added, snorting in amusement at the way Theo was counting them out on his fingers.

Then Theo mentioned his favourite colour and Alan nodded. “Orange is a good one. A lot of people like orange..I guess.” He shrugged, seeming at a loss for words. It wasn’t as if he had a huge opinion on colours anyway.

“Wowwww,” Alan replied, unable to stop himself from laughing a little as he leaned back on his hands. “That’s harsh. My lying abilities are amazing, thank you.”

They fell into silence for a little while, Theo staring up at the sky and Alan glancing at him out of the corner of his eye. This was nice, actually. Sure it had started off awkward, but it seemed to be going alright now. He’d even started to relax, just a little.

Theo asked him about hobbies and he shrugged. Now it was his turn to look up, lost in thought. “You know what. I don’t know. I used to do music. I can’t remember why I stopped, though. I’m sure there was a reason.”

“As for things I like? Hmm. Nothing. I don’t like anything.” Alan added, smiling a little before looking at the other boy. “What about you, then? Hobbies, likes?”

It seems that, without my presence, nobody talks on this website. I will just have to make myself a little less fucking scarce.

Alan glanced to the curb, shrugging as gently as possible. “Curb works. If that’s fine with you.”

He started to wander over, only to turn his head and squint at Theo, hand on his chest, looking mock appalled. “Theo, I’m shocked and hurt you don’t believe me.What could I gain from lying to you?” Taking a long drag from his cigarette, he sat on the curb and gestured for Theo to come over. He was kind of surprised that the other cared about his comfort - it wasn’t something anyone had done before. But he wasn’t going to tell Theo that. “So. I guess we should talk about something then, hmm?”

This was bad. This was really bad.

Not only had he completely clammed up, he could feel the awkward tension between them as if it were something palpable, and Theo wasn’t saying anything. Not that he had to, of course, but it would have helped.

After several moments Theo finally spoke, causing Alan to jump. A wave of relief made him sigh as he nodded. “Yeah. We can do that.”

Could they? On second thought, the vivid image of Andras swooping down on them made Alan shudder. “That is if..you’re not worried about potentially meeting my demon, that is.”

Part of him hoped that Theo would reconsider.

Okay, so Theo was incredibly unconvinced. Feeling his cheeks burning, Alan was thankful that his hood kept most of his face obscured, so the other couldn’t see the way he was silently losing his cool.

“I uh..” He spoke, talking slowly as if trying to make an excuse as the sentence was working its way out of his mouth, but seemed to come up with nothing. “It’s uh. It’s fine, I don’t need help. Everything is..cool.”

For a moment his voice lost that usual monotone, almost cracking as he felt his face go bright red. Okay. How do you quietly say that you’re not in a lot of pain and you’d like to stay out and maybe spend time with someone without it coming off as weird? He didn’t know. It wasn’t as if he’d tried to make a friend before.

He ended up awkwardly plucking the cigarette from his mouth and playing with it in his hand as he looked off down the street, away from Theo. Surely that wouldn’t make him seem weird. Not at all.

Alan rolled his eyes. “I am to please, Theo.” He replied with the same level of sarcasm, before the topic went on to rock kicking. He nodded, seeming to take in Theo’s words. “Well, if you put your mind to it you can probably do it, even if it’s just wasting time kicking rocks.” He couldn’t help but smile in earnest at the other’s grin, but quickly shook it off when the pain started.

“No, I’m fine. Nothing to worry about.” Alan responded, trying to sound as casual as possible. “Just a scratch, you know.” 

He pulled himself up and shrugged dismissively. “It’s probably just because I’m out doing things. Which means I should probably head in. I guess.”

Now he was probably trying too hard to act like everything is normal.
