Today is the 23rd June 2026 it is the first day of a rather unnecessary heatwave and it is also the 10th anniversary of the Brexit Referendum.
10 years ago today the people of the UK voted to either leave the European Union or to remain. The final result was 52% to 48% and we eventually left the EU on a no deal.
And no one, not the people who voted leave, not Nigel Farage the head of the Brexit Party not even our Prime Minster at the time David Cameron can tell you that Brexit has had a positive impact on us.
Itâs destroyed our economy and has put so many people into poverty. It has ruined our relationships with our closest neighbours and has contributed into why immigration has become the most contested issue in the UK.
I remember being in school while it was all being talked about.
Seeing the buses with signs that if we leave ÂŁ3 billion going to the NHS and all of that. Even at 15 years old I knew my generation were getting the short end of the stick. I canât tell you how frustrating it was to watch old aged pensioners vote against our interests knowing they wonât have to live to see the consequences.
And there was nothing I or any other young person could do but watch.
Itâs why the social media ban doesnât surprise me in the slightest they didnât care about us then why would they care for young people now when red is trying so hard to be blue.
Brexit remains the worst thing to happen to us and our governments refusal to overturn it shows they donât actually care about us. The majority of the public want to re-join and even the EU have said theyâll make it quicker and easier for us to come back.
Instead our government dangles the possibility of Breturn over us whenever they feel theyâre losing the polls when in truth they have no intention of reversing it.
Theyâll blame everyone for our issues, immigrants, ethnic minorities, trans people etc when every economist is screaming it is Brexit thatâs the cause for all of this. Why else do you think Nigel Farage is the biggest proponent of all of this division? Itâs so we forget heâs the reason weâre in this mess the man was pushing for Brexit for years.
Every single thing Brexit was promised to us as was a lie and reversing it may not fix everything wrong in this country but my god will it help.
