Maybe Nightmare is able to relax his form, he just did it when Killer sprayed him with water to fuck with them. He decides to spend a bunch of time in that form cause it is very relaxing, but the gang just panic and try to figure out how to un-water down their boss.

All while holding him like some weird goop cat.

Even better if they start fighting and Night has to keep the peace while he is a blob of sludge.

Maybe he joins them for meals and just climbs onto the food and absorbs it.

There are a few of my ideas, but you go ahead and explore what you think. Maybe it is a more relaxed form for him, his true form if you will. Or maybe he really is watered down. I dunno. 🤷‍♀️
