((Ok, went ahead and made a blog for Arizan and a blog for Kash. I still need to work out themes and about pages and such, and Kash’s username is almost certainly going to change when I think of something more clever, but the blogs exist and the askboxes should be open, so. Those are things that exist.
And you can still send asks to pre-motb!Arizan despite his username. But he wanted that username and it was free so he got it.))
((So I’ve been playing with the thought of moving Arizan and Kash to their own blogs, since they’re more well developed than the other muses here (on account of they’ve existed in my head longer. Much longer. It weirds me out when I think about how long Kash has been existing in my head). Also, Kash has been pushing for the headcanon where she ends up with a different homebase than the Keep after MotB, and Arizan has, like. Three different settings he could have threads in. Shit’s complicated. Shit should go be complicated on a blog that doesn’t already have 5 other muses.
I’ve also been thinking about having a different account for RPing since this is a sideblog and that means that I can only send asks from my main or on anon. It hasn’t really been a problem, but idk. Kistrel actually is on a different account, so maybe switching so that all my blogs are run from his would mean I would finally stop neglECTING MY POOR SPIDER BBY. But then they’d still be sideblogs, and I just. ????
IDK I jumped into this with no idea what I was doing and I still haven’t figured it out. Anyone have any advice?))

//What do you guys think, is music in Faerûn exclusively the domain of bards/those who take levels in the player character class bard or is it more complex than that? Could a pure fighter be a good musician but just not able to make magical music?
((I’ll go even further with the theory musical talent and ability to use music in combat and magic are two separate things. Many describe Grobnar and Deekin as terrible singers and bards, yet, their spells work. I think it’s fully possible to be a fighter with a good voice and a musical ear as well as being a total yeller and trash as a bard, but still being able to use bardic abilities. Your music just doesn’t end in such awesome effects like cursing your enemies or giving your party a bonus to attack.))
//What do you guys think, is music in Faerûn exclusively the domain of bards/those who take levels in the player character class bard or is it more complex than that? Could a pure fighter be a good musician but just not able to make magical music?
((Well, in my head, my druid’s uncle isn’t a bard, but he can still compose music in his spare time, so I don’t think it’s exclusively for bards.))
((fairly certain music is the domain of anyone who wants to try playing an instrument or sing a tavern song or what have you. And even away from the realm of “I feel like singing so I‘m damn well going to sing (or lay down sick beats by banging on the table/other improvised percussion instrument)” - I would be extremely disappointed if hymns weren’t a thing in most religions, but that doesn’t mean every cleric secretly wants to be a bard. So yes, I’m pretty sure a pure fighter could be a good musician.
I’m pretty sure there are also people who consider themselves bards who can’t do much in the way of magical music, or even bards who can do amazing things with a lute but couldn’t sing to save their life (or vice versa. Do you have any idea how many strings a lute has? No one has time for tuning that if they’re walking through a dungeon.) ))
My muse just did something stupid that almost got them killed. Yell at them.

Reblog if you are the God of Death or a God of Death ally.
Ever wonder why everyone in Forgotten Realms is like “The gods need the Wall of the Faithless” or something? Here’s the problem though, the Wall was made by Myrkul who was not the first god of the dead. So we have most of Realms’ time taking place before the Wall, the gods are doing just fine.
So why do they suddenly need something they were getting along well without before? My only understanding of it is that the evil gods may need it. They could argue that a literal hell for an afterlife is better than the fate of the Wall of Faithless for the wicked of the Realms but then why do good or neutral gods need it?
I know that since the Wall’s construction Ao, the over god, required deities to have worshipers to support them and also made it so that the amount of sincere worship was directly proportional to a god’s power. But still why do Helm, or Lathander, or Tempus, or even Bane need it since they offer something to their faithful other than just “worship or suffer”?
The only rationale for why good and neutral gods don’t tear it down is because they fear that losing even evil gods (because evil gods then lose worship) make the whole of the gods weaker against external threats like Primordials, demons, god killing monsters, so on.
Of course even if that’s the reasoning behind it this begs another Realms theological problem. Why do evil gods have clerics? Like a person with a high wisdom doesn’t mean high morality but you’d think common sense would kick in at some point and they’d be like “If I pledge my soul to this god he tortures me for eternity, sounds like a bad deal for short term power now.” Heck even a lawful evil cleric can worship someone like Helm who offers a much better afterlife than Bane.
((Lovely neranishin is an expert of afterlife here, and I think she’ll add more to my rant or correct me if I’m wrong. There has been a discussion between me and her, what should be done with the Faithless after Kaelyn tore down the Wall in RP canon (possible to find on my blog under the tag #wall of the faithless) and I learned much.
Under the cut to keep dash clean.

((... give me a moment to stop giggling about you calling Kelemvor Kelly
ok
Yes, pretty much everything you said sounds right! (according to my knowledge, which is admittedly held together with headcanons in some places). Just a few points:
First: Most of the benefit that the good deities recieve form letting the Wall of the Faithless hang around is that they don’t piss off the evil deities by trying to tear it down. Kind of like how Kelemvor can’t just pull the KC’s soul out of the Wall and fix the spirit eater curse because it was a punishment decreed by his predecessor, and the other gods would start yelling about how the new guy has no respect. Also Lathander has tried reworking the pantheon to suit him better and it didn’t end well. None of the gods exist in a vacuum ok they’ve got rivalries and shit. Like how Cyric couldn’t stick his nose into the Bhaalspawn business because he knew that Midnight and Kelemvor would gleefully come wreck his shit if he tried.
Assuming the Avatar series (namely Waterdeep and Prince of Lies) is accurate in its depictions of the Fugue Plane, Kelemvor doesn’t actually have to judge the Faithful. If you’re Fatihful, you stand on the Fugue Plane and shout prayers to your deity (Or sing to them, or boast about your accomplishments in battle, or however it is your god likes you to attract their attention) until they send a messenger to come pick up the latest batch of dead worshipers.
The Faithless and the False find themselves unable to call out or speak much at all (assuming that Gwydion in Prince of Lies is a typical example, anyway). I’m guessing this has something to do with how their soul doesn’t *know* any of the gods. To continue using Gwydion as an example, because he’s the only dead guy I’ve read about who’s gone through this process: He was one of Torm’s False. He managed to cry out to Torm after a couple of Cyric’s Faithful picked him up and dragged him into the city. Torm showed up and tried to intervene, but Gwydion couldn’t read any of the words for duty or loyalty on Torm’s gauntlets (Torm has... special ideas about armor decoration, apparently), so Cyric got to do whatever he wanted to him.
So, the Fugue Plane: We’ve got clusters of the Faithful calling out to their gods, faithless and false walking around in varying states of distress because they can’t talk, and Doomguides and fiends wandering around looking for them. (There is precious little about what Doomguides actually do in Kelemvor’s service, but if Cyric’s Denizens were responsible for leading the unfaithful into the City, then I assume Doomguides inherited that duty) The fiends probably mostly target the unfaithful and the Faithful of evil gods who recognize that becoming a lemure would probably be a better decision than going to their god’s afterlife, where they might be welcomed but would more likely be tortured for <insert random shortcoming here>.
As for Kelemvor ending up a god of the Faithless: I don’t think it’s very likely, but planes are confusing. And my argument against it was that Kelemvor’s domain is the City of Judgement rather than the Fugue Plane, buuut the Forgotten Realms wiki says that the Fugue Plane is divinely morphic for Kelemvor, so idk. It also says that the Fugue Plane is in the Astral Sea, which. Suggests that Toril’s dead actually do end up in the Astral Plane at least briefly before being pulled there and. IDK I need to find more Forgotten Realms books about dead people.
I also want to figure out what happened to Mystra/Azuth/Tyr/Helm’s faithful who died after their god but before they converted to another religion. I could see multiple gods being willing to welcome them, but you make a good point about followers changing the alignment of a plane - in Kelemvor’s case, I’d guess that his city would just kinda shift a bit to another plane the way Myrkul and Cyric’s cities were technically in Hades, but hmm. I should reread Prince of Lies and see what it says about Myrkul’s faithful.))
((just from these few hours of playing Illindriel as he should be played with proper modding, I now know why he terrifies people
He can summon a small army of undead, take down a large group of people, renew his army from the fallen, heal his undead, summon more, and he eventually gathers more and more like a snowball running downhill
Before you know it he’s got a fucking legion of undead and he wants to just be a lich and take Velsharoon’s place and give an army’s worth of middle fingers to Kelemvor
also the mod is found here))
