okay but in all seriousness, bo burnham’s new special is the most terrifying thing i have seen. ever. not just because some shots were unsettling, but because it describes the quarantine experience (definitely my experience) to a point. it’s scary how bo is able to put all those churning feelings into a sharable form. like i said before, it feels like someone took my suicidal dissociative episodes and turned them into songs.

and i kind of dig it ngl. welcome to the internet is great too because i feel like there’s just a flood of information at every moment (or you could also say “everything all of the time”). it’s like gunk in your brain. it clouds your mind up and you’re still sitting there in one of your episodes and you woke up at 11:30 because whats the point of waking up at 10 and you eat cereal in your room and you scroll through doomsday all morning long and you know it’s not good for you but what else do you have to do?

the parts about him talking about finishing the special probably hit me the hardest though. there’s a reason why i never liked summer break very much, and that’s because there’s no structure. no deadline, no work. just a huge void of time. and you don’t know what to do. you have too much and too little and so you start projects and never end them because you’re scared of the lack of structure and sometimes you never even start due to the fear of finishing and having that control taken away.

this special hit horrifyingly close to home. entertainingly, albeit, but a little too close for comfort. and i think that is amazing. the enthusiastic tone of many of the songs compared to the cynicism of the lyrics is just the cherry on top.

oh yeah, and listen to the posts that tell you to be wary when watching it if you’re not in a good headspace.
