This is Halloween from The Nightmare Before Christmas except you can hear it playing, distantly, as you sneak through the woods on All Hallow’s Eve. Finally, you find the source of it - a clearing of evident monsters, all rocking out and celebrating their holiday. You hide in the bushes and watch them, trying your damndest to remain still and unnoticed.

something about the way he FRAMED his answer leaves the witch puzzled. ❛ i presume you’re not from around these parts… would i be CORRECT in that assumption? ❜ phoebe asks him gently, a fleeting thought of, ‘i could get lost in that smile’, filtered through her head, but it’s gone just as quickly as it entered. if she weren’t in a PRECARIOUS position at the moment, she might try to spend longer talking with him. as it stands, her attention had drifted away from her sister’s and watching to make sure they were still in the clear. brown eyes find his again, just as she hears him practically announce his next words to those around them. ❛ all is FORGIVEN, ❜ she murmurs, even adding a curtsy to boot. with a glance to him again, she starts to walk away from him only stopping when a man asks if she wished to know the first initial of her TRUE LOVE. ❛ —— i suppose it couldn’t hurt… ❜ she trails off.

   Jack’s gaze burned on her she drifted out of his reach. He harbored the belief it wasn’t to escape him, however. Even with the sunlight and the other villagers and festivities in motion, there was danger in her being here. Which again begged the question --- why take such a risk? What was she planning? He deemed her presence among mortals most unusual. The monsters and devils of this realm took great care to conceal themselves, and they certainly differed from his own ilk! The bottomless pit of parasitic hunger they fed wasn’t something Jack approved of, but he didn’t catch wind of such darkness lurking within her. Now, while he had every intention of reminding mortals of the bone-chilling terrors that governed the night, he had no plans of bringing harm to anyone. That simply wasn’t the way he chose to conduct himself. And as long as he bore the crown and title of the Pumpkin King, it would never be Halloween Town’s way of being, either.

   Still, Jack couldn’t bring himself to let her go, so he strolled after her and did the only thing he could think of. To the man boasting, he asked, ❝Really? You can make that deduction? A most interesting skill...I can't wait to see how it works!❞ Human customs and pastimes truly did intrigue the mind of Jack. Coal-dark eyes lowered to the wooden barrel filled with water, wondering of the answer contained in such elusive depths, to the witch in his company. ❝Sounds like an entirely pleasant notion, wouldn’t you agree?❞
