|| ALRIGHT. IT IS TIME. HERE IS LIA’S OFFICIAL PLACEMENT IN BOOK 6. Keep in mind that this is subject to change, even though I don’t PLAN for it to change XDD Also, this involves my headcanons of Idia's parents, not what we see in Book 7!!
Lia expected the Charon division to get dispatched to Night Raven College soon and was quite surprised that it took this long. She was in her room when the Charons invaded NRC, but she received a notification that alerted her as to what was going on. She ran out of her room and out of the dorm, going into the main building to see for herself what was happening. If the Charon were here, those overblotted students would be taken away. She knew she had to return home before she even got the call telling her to.
Lia doesn’t work for Idia directly. Instead, she works for Zandik Shroud, Idia’s father. There’s a lot that she knows about that even Idia isn’t aware of. The situation that will occur in the next 24 hours was one of them. Zandik informed Lia to come to STYX, and once she arrived, she received another call explaining what she was expected to do.
Idia’s mother and father will be going to question Crowley. During that time, Idia is expected to run STYX in their stead. Zandik anticipates that Idia will fail and that this power will go to his head a bit. Without surveillance, he anticipates that Idia will go down to Tartarus, realizing the real Ortho is down there, and will Overblot. What Idia doesn’t know–and what Lia suspects–is that Zandik was actually the reason for Ortho’s demise. It was an experiment of his to see what would happen if a Shroud with their curse was put down there in the Underworld. Now, he was curious to see how a Shroud would overblot, if it’s even possible, and how long they can last. He told Lia that her job now was to make sure he overblots.
So, Lia hung around like a shadow, doing her job as a researcher and as the Shrouds’ favorite “toy”. At any opportunity she had, she would bring up Ortho–the real Ortho–to Idia to make sure he would do anything to bring his brother back if given the chance. Though she was never actually friendly, she spent this whole time acting like she was on everyone’s side.
When Idia did go down into Tartarus, Lia received another call from Zandik. Her role in this experiment has changed. With these students here, and with the intruders as well, there was no doubt that they would try to stop Idia and interfere with the experiment. Her job was to make them fail and let the overblot run its course, only interfering when Idia is about to die so Zandik doesn’t lose his heir. Lia refused since this went far beyond anything he had ever told her to do before, so he made a deal with her. If she succeeded, he would let her be free. Lia agreed.
She met up with the rest of the students and went down with Vil, Rook, Epel, and MC (this can change depending on the interaction, however). She kept her true intentions a secret as they all descended down the towers, fighting back the Phantoms as they went. She did small things to slow them down, but nothing too much–she didn’t want to be revealed just yet.
Once everyone reached the bottom, and once she saw Idia and Ortho, she realized she couldn’t go through with her orders. If she interfered, the other students would die. She couldn’t let them be the victims of another Shroud incident. No doubt characters like Leona may have seen through what she was doing by now and called her out on it, but she then decides that she changed her mind. She’ll fight. And since she was giving up her freedom for this, she had nothing left to lose. If she died protecting these people, she would be free.
Instead of three chariots, four come down, one for Lia. She got on one and explained that her signature spell allowed her to manipulate blot. She said she will circle Idia and Ortho and keep them relatively in the same place, weakening their attacks as best she could. So, she did. She knew how to set her chariot to autopilot mode so it would circle the phantom, and then she focused all of her attention on manipulating the giant infestation of blot before her. She was dangerously close to Tartarus, not to mention using her signature spell a deadly amount.
What she did made a large difference and allowed the groups to hit Ortho with their lightning. With the last attack from Vil’s group, Lia used the last of her strength to throw Phantom Ortho back into Tartarus by controlling the blot his body was made of. However, that crossed her line. Lia collapsed as her chariot continued to go around and around. If it wasn’t for one group (I’ll leave it up to plotting to determine who) didn’t come for her and bring her out, she would have died there. Lia remained unconscious until everyone was sent back to NRC, barely hanging onto life. Blot spilled from her eyes, mouth, and nose, but given how weak her body was, she didn’t overblot in a powerful sense–however, she was dying from blot poisoning, so she essentially overblotted but without the power boost (and without the phantom).
By the time they did arrive at NRC, Lia had died. Her heart stopped and her body was completely filled with blot. However, she had only been dead for a few minutes, so she was included in Malleus’ “gift”. He restored Vil back to his original appearance and cleansed Lia of her blot, as well as brought her back to life (maybe a little electricity~ XDD) Her body is very much broken and, now that she isn’t using her signature spell, her hair is mostly white. It took a month before she could even walk again, but she’s slowly recovering. However, until she has recovered more, Lia can’t use any magic without creating an alarming amount of blot.
It really had been such a hot day. He couldn't help but wonder if the Anemo Archon had gone away somewhere and that was why there was barely any wind, silver eyes watching as one of the tiny little wind sprites floated by their sheltered area. Maybe they were feeling the heat too?
"Oh, thank you", he reached out for the offered water, taking a few grateful sips before handing it back, a quick shake of his head given, "It hasn't been dreadful!", he quickly stated, not wanting for his sister to think that he hadn't been enjoying himself, "It's been fun exploring the ruins and learning from you! I just got a little light headed is all...but I've still enjoyed today..."
The last thing he wanted was to bring down the mood. He'd only spoken up because Kira had told him not to hide whenever he wasn't feeling well or he'd have remained quiet for a while longer, not wishing to disturb the fun they'd been having. Tapping the vision that rest against his hip, he gave a slight nod of acknowledgement.
"Hmm, I thought that could be a possibility but I also wasn't sure if I might accidently freeze myself instead", he admitted with a soft smile, "My control is a lot better though - should I try chilling the air, or just making some ice?"
It would have been fine if Rai complained about the heat. Kira wouldn't have taken it personally, of course. After all, she didn't plan to go out during the hottest day of the year. It wasn't intentional. Even so, Rai instead expressed how much fun he was having, how much he enjoyed exploring with her... And Kira couldn't keep from smiling.
" Well, if we aren't wet, I can't imagine we'd freeze, " Kira replied with a soft laugh. Still, Rai's concerns were warranted. He had only been taught how to abuse his power... And because Kira decided to take things slow in teaching him how to use a Vision, there was still so much he had yet to learn. But Kira was happy to teach him. Just as she was happy to show him the rest of Mondstadt. Kira never knew until she met Rai, but...maybe a part of her had always wanted a younger sibling.
" Creating some ice just to cool yourself a bit would be much easier, and all things considered, safer, " Kira continued as she took the canister and placed it back in her bag. " Cooling the air or even a body part uses less power, and that means it requires more precision. However, I think if you're comfortable with giving it a try, it certainly wouldn't hurt. And I'm sure we'd both appreciate a small break from the heat~ "

|| I meant to say this before, but in her TWST verse, Lia’s signature spell, “Demon’s Embrace”, has a side effect where the user doesn’t need to sleep. It’s not vital to them. And the more one uses the spell, the less sleep they need until they literally can’t sleep anymore.
Usually, Lia just chooses not to sleep because why would she waste hours sleeping when she could be doing something productive? Sometimes she will rest though since she’s still human (so she’ll sleep like once a month or something ridiculous like that).
Though it wasn't quite part of the plan, Raven had to admit that she enjoyed sitting at the top of the student body. It was no secret that Team STRQ was the best Beacon currently had to offer. They were the headmaster's favorites. They crushed their opponents in every sparring match and every demonstration thrown their way. In truth, it made Raven feel like royalty. She liked the power.
And she didn't mind the company. Yes, of course Qrow continued to irk her with every day's new disappointment, but at least she had grown to tolerate her other teammates. Summer and Tai, they were strong. They were worthy of being on the same team as the Branwen twins. And, well...they were quite appealing to the eye as well.
With Qrow and Summer busy in the library, Raven and Tai were left alone to wander the campus. She was aware of how their fellow students watched them from a distance, and it certainly helped boost her ego. But that wasn't the main focus of her thoughts at the moment. No, she was instead thinking about the blond at her side...
" I don't see the problem, " Raven said, jumping back into their conversation as they walked side by side through the courtyard. " Port's head is too big as is. All we did was knock him back down a few pegs. He isn't even a real professor yet. Port should've known better than to challenge us in a demonstration. Qrow and I were just representing our team, " she added with a knowing smirk teasing at her lips.
A Huntress... Something Raven never imagined herself to be. Even now, months after graduating and earning her license, she found herself staring down at the screen of her scroll. Eyes locked on the image of her staring back. The Tribe didn't want this... This wasn't in the plan... But a lot could change in four years.
One thing's for sure...they couldn't go back home now.
" They'll kill us if we run into them again, " said the young woman. She could sense the presence behind her, and she already knew exactly who it was. Her brother. The one person on their team who could fully understand what sort of predicament they were now in. Raven wasn't the sort to talk about her feelings, and she wasn't doing that now. She just needed to know if she was right in this assumption.
Raven turned her head to look back at Qrow as her arm dropped back into her lap. " Is it worth it? Forsaking our tribe to live as heroes? " Throwing away the life she always saw for herself...
|| Anyways, as promised, here's a hc post describing Raven's feelings towards Tai~ Keep in mind that harrowing-huntsman is my main Tai, so all of this is based around Myst's portrayal! BUT, I never do exclusives, so this can apply to all Tais if it aligns with your canon! And if not, let me know and I'll adjust~ (TW for mild mentions of postpartum depression! also warning that this shit is LOOOOONG)
Beacon:
Raven was not there to make friends. Obviously! I've mentioned in another hc post that she (and tbh all of STRQ) kinda slept around, primarily with each other. No strings attached. Those aren't relationships, it's just a good time. So she wasn't messing with the plan.
But then Team STRQ became so important to Ozpin, and they rose above the rest of the student population, and the walls inevitably came down. She and Qrow always had a strained relationship and always will. Once she was willing to open up (at least a year or so in), she and Summer became best friends.
And Raven and Tai...they just orbited each other. The Prom Queen and King (er...Vital Festival dance?). The hottest couple on campus. Even if they were kinda open in their relationship and hooked up with others, everyone knew that Raven and Taiyang were it. Everyone knew they'd get together, and everyone knew they'd get back together with every fight and breakup. (Ross and Rachel-type fated, only with a golden retriever and a goth baddie XDD)
The thing is... Tai is everything Raven never knew. He's the opposite of her upbringing. Like a moth to a flame, she couldn't help but be drawn in. He's what made her let go of her allegiance to her tribe. He's why she worked for Ozpin. And this carried on into her time as a Huntress.
Huntress:
This is not the life for Raven Branwen. She doesn't care about keeping people safe. She doesn't want to save the world from evil. But...Tai is here. And so, she's here too.
Tai makes her a better version of herself. He's everything she never knew, and she's growing into that. The thing is, Raven likes herself when she's with him. She likes how he makes her feel, a warmth she was never given in her tribe. There's no doubt that Raven loves Tai. And in the early years of being a Huntress, she was inseparable from him.
And that's why she put up with this life. Again, being a Huntress is not the life for Raven. She likes fighting, and she enjoys the feeling of satisfaction after she destroys an opponent (Grimm). But that is the only satisfaction she gets from being a Huntress. In truth, she's forcing herself to live a lie. But Raven tells herself that it's alright. She's fine living as a Huntress, doing Ozpin's bidding. Because Tai is here. He is her handler, whether he realizes it or not. And Raven always tells herself that being with Tai is enough to displace the tension she feels in her bones from living this life that isn't hers.
Married Life:
This tension only grows, of course. "I'm fine being a Huntress." "I'm fine being a wife." The more life events, the further into domesticity she goes with Tai, the more tension she feels within her. Raven Branwen isn't built for domesticity. Especially not in her early 20s. But she tells herself it's fine, because she has Tai. She will be fine. And for the most part, it still was enough.
Until Yang. She'd tell Tai to deal with her. Could barely stand to be around her. And everyone told her that it was just postpartum behavior, but it didn't change for months. After all, motherhood was the last straw. Raven couldn't do that, even though Tai was perfect father material. And all of that built-up tension eventually exploded, and Raven ran away. She didn't tell anyone. She didn't say when she would be back. But she knew Tai would handle Yang just fine. He was meant for this life. She wasn't.
And Raven convinced herself that it wasn't her fault. She couldn't be expected to play a domestic role when it all had been a lie up until now. Tai should have known this when he married her. He shouldn't have expected her to be a mother. He should have known Raven would eventually leave.
Of course she loved Tai. She even loved Yang, as much as she could at the time. But Raven is naturally a very selfish person, and in this raw moment, she did the only thing she knew how to do: protect herself at all costs. Years passed before she said a word to anyone from Team STRQ (including Qrow). But during that time, the house was frequented by a raven with red eyes. Always a safe distance away, but watching nonetheless.
Now:
I'm sure Raven and Tai have spoken since then. And when they do talk, all familiarity is gone from her. She has built up the walls he worked so hard to break down initially, and she's even reinforced them to mask her shame with pride. Expect a very harsh and cruel Raven. But between you and me...she's compensating for the fact that she knows she broke this man whom she loved. She's saying "This is who I am, and it's who I always have been" even though there was something good in her. Tai would have seen it. He wouldn't have married her if he didn't.
She keeps herself at a distance from him because she expects that he hates her, and she knows he would be right to. But somewhere behind her reinforced walls, Raven does still love him. That never changed. It's just that his love wasn't enough to carry her through this life that she wasn't ready for. Now that she's older, she would never try to fit into this "happy huntress/family" mold she tried to put herself in before. And if he isn't repelled by this version of her that remains...she could rekindle that fire.
After all, her feelings never went away. She just built her walls around them so that she wouldn't hurt anymore. If Tai doesn't hate her, if he tried to bridge that divide she made and break down those reinforced walls... Yeah, they could get back together. But I don't expect any Tai to be willing to do this, and neither does Raven. So, she does what she always does when feelings are too strong and blame is thrown her way--she yells louder and to compensate for the fact that deep down inside, she knows they're right.
The low hum of a portal spread, soft and quiet throughout the forest as the raven landed on a nearby branch. Strong, sturdy, enough to support the weight of a grown woman. Thus, Raven shifted. Yang's words echoed in her mind as she remained perched on the branch... Their daughter was brave. Raven knew she didn't get it from her mother. But just as she was brave, Yang was also foolish.
She took the lamp. She placed a target on her back.
Raven leapt down from the branch, landing safely on the ground. It wasn't common for her to pay this cottage a visit. Not in her human form, at least... There was a time she lived here, but this had never been her home. And Tai... Her lips pressed together as she abandoned the ache in her heart left by their daughter. She could see him kneeling before the little flower beds outside the house...but surely he already knew she was here.
" She has the lamp. " Raven stepped closer before planting her feet in the ground behind him, her hand resting on her blade in her usual stance. " Your fool of a daughter has planted a target on all of their backs. Do you realize the danger you have raised her into..?? The severity of the fight ahead of her?? " Raven had to pick someone to be angry with, and right now, that was Tai. He raised Yang and Ruby... So he had to be the one at fault for their path in life. He raised them to be Huntresses...why couldn't they have been left to live out their lives peacefully??
