Sometimes you've got to start small and simple with altars. This is for Nyx. It'll gradually grow over time
Shout out to all the alters who don't like using/don't use signoffs after their messages. I am one of you.
religious person with dissociative identity disorder call that a belief system
Calling alters "alters, parts, headmates, peices": 🚫🚫🚫🚫
Calling alters: "those bitchass motherfuckers" ✅️✅️✅️
Reminder
DID isn't just having fun people in your head
Along with shifts in personality, it's often times:
amnesia: 'waking up' with no memory of what's going on
travelling and having no idea where you are or how you got there
dizziness
confusion
spacing out
headaches
feeling broken & worthless
fear
not knowing why or how you're wearing what you're wearing
nausea
pain
anxiety
finding things amongst your belongings you don't remember acquiring
time loss
depression
suicidal ideation & action
spikes in inexplicable emotion, especially anger, fear, and shame
body and voice dysphoria
depersonalization & derealisation
loss of control
hearing voices
finding injuries you don't remember getting
self harm
not recognising friends/family/colleagues
forgetting important events (birthdays, parties, graduations etc)
mood shifts with seemingly no trigger
finding notes in similar handwriting but something about it is slightly off
flashbacks: somatic flashbacks, nightmares, split second flashbacks to 'little things' but not getting more detail
bed wetting
age regression
inadvertently lying, or being questioned if you have
feeling like your body isn't yours
knowing something is wrong, but not what
wondering why your body doesn't align with your perceived sex (for alters whose gender/sex don't align with the body)
watching your body do things and having no control over it (feeling like a puppet or like playing a video-game in 3rd person)
mass fluctuations in libido: fluctuations from hypersexual to zero sexual desire
not being sure if things really happened, or whether you imagined/thought about them
identity confusion
+ many more
I have two book recommendations DID experiences: "All Of Me" by Kim Noble, and "The Girl in The Green Dress" by Jeni Haynes. Please check trigger warnings.
Explanations:
1) beliefs:
I hate having to pretend that I changed my mind/still believe something another alter told someone when I never believed in it at all
2) goals:
We’ve got a lot of artists, but we also have a writer. Sometimes they want us to write 500 words or sth a day. I don’t want to. Stuff like that
3) skill:
This is self explanatory, but it’s hard to work on projects (e.g. a webcomic) when my art style changes— it makes keeping a consistent schedule impossible
honorable mention: relationships
it's annoying to have to hang out with someone I dislike just because someone else made plans because they like them
Trying to explain why you're talking and acting different without revealing being a system:

Our partner of 5 years proposed today, we said yes!! ❤️🏳️🌈❤️
Shout-out to the intimidating alters. Shout-out to Protectors who are often rude or aggressive as part of their function. Shout-out to Gatekeepers who are often cold or uncaring as part of their function. Shout-out to the Caretakers who are often overly bearing or demanding as part of their function. Shout-out to the Persecutors who are often hostile or distrustful of others as part of their function.
Remember systems
The next time that somebody tells you "your brain wouldn't form that part!"
Oh Yes It Would.
You can't choose who or what forms. And that's okay <3
- Riley
Finally have a therapist who specializes in DID and is really amazing to work with. She always asks who's fronting and uses our individual names. She's the first therapist to treat us as individuals and respect our decision to not integrate.
Stages of DID recovery
Stage 1: my brain is so quiet. I feel nothing. hear nothing. remember nothing. it's just... nothing.
Stage 2: HOLY FUCK THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE HERE SHUT SHUT UP SHUT UP STOP THINKING THERE'S TOO MUCH THINKING
Stage 3: we're now in sync, everything is in peace, we understand each other, sometimes we need to talk but it's fine it's not as chaotic-
Stage 4: HOLY FUCK I'M FEELING AND THINKING EVERYTHING FROM EVERYONE THERE IS NOTHING STOPPING THESE THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS FROM EXISTING THIS IS TOO MUCH SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UPPPPP
Stage 5: actually this is normal and fine. we're good.
Just got diagnosed with Bipolar when I was under the impression I just had a weird unique case of ADHD from everyone 🙃
Working somewhere that Hosts pride events and celebrates Queer employees so openly is such a breath of fresh air. It's nice that the topic of being gay or trans at work isn't scary or risky.
Happy Disability Pride to the people who haven't gotten an official diagnosis or documentation due to financial reasons or whatever else may have prevented you from being able to get diagnosed.
This month is for you too
You are part of this community. You matter just at much, you're valid.
disabled people deserve more than the bare minimum to live tbh. and i don't mean in the "oh we have extra costs that makes being disabled more expensive" - which is true, but i'm counting those in the budget to live. disabled people also deserve enough money to buy treats, nice clothes, fund their hobbies, take a trip away, and so on. being disabled shouldn't force you into a life of frugality and poverty
For Disability Pride Month this is your reminder to include all Mental Illnesses in your advocacy.
That means BPD, NPD, HPD, ASPD, AvPD and other Personality Disorders.
That means DID, PDID, UDD, & OSDD.
That means Schizophrenia and other Psychotic Disorders.
