Prologue
My life flashed before my eyes.
Not in a literal sense, I suppose. Really, it was like a professional slideshow of the memories from my past. Even the blurry stuff of when I was three. Somewhere around there, anyway. It was like a theatre but the 3D kind. There was a background of waves crashing against a sandy shore. Weird, I know, but if people are right, everyone experiences death differently.
Another memory. It all started out with a memory when I was two or three. Playing before me in a loving manner. Before my Dad - A cop, who served our country before that - had been KIA. But that's not the point. The point is in this memory, he was still alive. When I was really young, he was playing in the yard with me. He picked me up and swung me around in the air. I felt a bubbly feeling, as if I was in the moment again. But it was so much clearer than naturally remembering.
In this memory, years later, he was KIA. My life fell apart because hers did. My poor mother, lost in her grief and pain. My father was everything to her. If werewolves were real, they were true soulmates. She let the loss take her. She lost her job as an Attorney-Lawyer, we lost our two-story house and we moved quite a lot. I lost my friends and my memories faded, as did parts of who I was.
The slideshow eventually closed towards the ending. We had just moved into our three-room house, falling apart and rotting. My room was small and damp with a musty smell, as was mother's. The final room was the living room and the kitchen in one, the front door right between them.
The memories finished with the new school before it faded out. Come to think of it, I couldn't remember any thing after that. Just the front of the large school building. Did I even walk inside? I couldn't remember. In fact, I can't seem to remember where I currently was or what had happened.
Was I.. Dead?
