what is holding you back?

the inability to rely on others without feeling like a burden you're spending way too much time trying to find an explanation for everything you do and think, aren't you? you feel like all of the answers have to come from inside of you, since that's the role you've grown into. from the outside, people think you have it together. they see your open arms as invitation, and therefore keep leaning on you. at first, it was okay, since you wanted to help. but slowly, you're being dragged further and further down. you need help, too. but you're supposed to be there for everyone else. you're the one they go to when they're struggling. you've put everyone else first, and now you feel like you can't allow others to know that you need help. please, stop telling yourself you're fine. deep down, you know you aren't. things don't have to be this way. you can let those people in. if anything, they will be grateful that you reached out. can you imagine how nice it'd feel to take a break from dealing with this all on your own?

“Oh, that’s a very interesting hair style. I love your bells and feathers~!” Not to mention his eyepatch. In fact, this man’s ENTIRE aesthetic is something Ilseong is interested in. Kind of reminds him of….a pirate. NOT because of the eyepatch, definitely not because of the eyepatch! 

“hey, hey….You don’t happen to have a sword on you, mm?” Did pirates carry swords on them?

Had the guy sounded any less sincere, Baren might not have known what to think about the compliment. Interesting had never been applied to him in any kind way -- it was the word people tossed out when they couldn’t think of anything suitable for polite company.

It hadn't taken a lot of work to set up, but simplicity had its own charms. It’d kept him busy for about five minutes, at least. Now he had just had to wait. Nevermind the man peeking from behind the nearest column. It’s fine.

It hadn't taken long at all for Baren to make a friend, and per usual, that friend was a cat. Although he wouldn’t say it out loud, having the little white feline trailing behind him and mewling incessantly was a bit of a comfort. He wasn’t going to keep her, of course, but at least she made for good company.

Annnd now she was running away from him. Rude.

He was oddly jealous to see his little shadow come to a stop at the feet of a young woman not more than ten feet away.

So when the guy pops up, alive and well, he relaxes just a little.

Did he really look so much like a corpse? He wasn’t that pale.
