Omg hi! Thank you! For the record it's an au I am working on with my sibling @thatonefunanon and a lot of the ideas for it come from them as well it's just that I'm the one posting. As for Ratchet and Sparkplug, we decided on it since we love the G1 cartoon so much and Earthspark is very Legacy of G1, what with many of the transformer cast's designs, alt modes, and the show's humour. Most of all it's because of the G1-style segment in the premiere when Alex is explaining the transformers war-- there are a couple shots where you can see Spike and Sparkplug, Spike especially gets a much more obvious camo vvv
So since the Witwickys (and by extension Carly and Chip) are implied to exist in the Earthspark timeline, we decided to incorporate them into our ideas for the pre-s1 events timeline and lore for our au. Which pretty much immediately resulted in Sparkplug and Ratchet old man yaoi. We figure since the Witwicky's ARE mechanics in G1 and we actually do specifically see Sparkplug helping Ratchet and Wheeljack in a mechanic-medic capacity, we figured for our AU it would make sense for them to bond and grow closer. Their relationship evolved into a deep romantic one pretty quickly and it was mainly Ratchet and Sparkplug who built their new repair bay in the town in '93-4, where they then lived together. They considered themselves basically informally married by that point and Ratchet was pretty firmly part of the family.
I imagine their romance was very tender and wholesome, and they shared a deep emotional bond. As the Autobot CMO during a war Ratchet was deeply affected by the constant deaths of his fellow autobots and carried a really heavy burden, one which Sparkplug helped take on and they were a major source of comfort and support for each other during the final years of the war. They were both also huge role models for Daniel growing up and both were very involved in helping to raise him since the whole family lived together at the repair bay. Every memory Ratchet has of these years is a precious one.
I AM sorry to say though that as of the show's Present Day, Sparkplug did pass away a few years ago :( Heart failure. If Spike was 14 when the Autobots arrived on Earth in 1984 as in G1, then he was born in 1970, and if Sparkplug was around 30 when Spike was born (which is what we believe) then he would have been in his 70's when he died in 2017, which IS a good, long time to live esp for a working class man who spent many decades of his life doing hard, manual labour. And he and Ratchet were together for like 30 years, which is really nothing to sneeze at, and all in all he lived a very fulfilling and amazing life. He is dearly loved and missed by his family. Ratchet has been kind of struggling, though, but he still has the rest of the family there to support him. The reminder that, barring some kind of giant awful tragedy, he's pretty much guaranteed to outlive all of them, esp his beloved grandson Daniel, is a hard pill to swallow.
Gah sorry for the bummer turn that took. Either way they shared a beautiful love story and I care about them so much bro damn I'm tearing up just typing this what the hell 😭

(Earthspark AU)
Where do I even begin
Some form the actual Witwicky family not showing up in Earthspark is a crime. Like yeah the town is named after them, but I'd've loved more. Like a throwaway line that Sparkplug or Spike and Carly founded the town. Or Daniel showing up! (bonus points if hot rod had been with him rather than downing 20 smokes an hour and getting depressed).
(Your version of a grown up (or at least old enough to drive) Daniel is amazing btw. I dunno how you managed to get across "I grew up around people who turn into cars" with that jacket but it works)
You know what's crazy is that Spike and Sparkplug ARE implied to exist in Earthspark-- in the G1-style segment in the premiere where Alex is explaining the Transformers War, you can see them in the background, Spike specifically is seen in one shot standing on Bumblebee's shoulder. So the Witwickies do plausibly exist in Earthspark! I understand why they never would have made official appearances since the show would've wanted to focus on their own core cast tho lol.
Re: your tags, that's honestly so real, the major changes in production and budget that gutted ES's production team after season 1 were so diabolical and the difference between s1 and s2+ is night and day. Only s1 is canon in my mind. That's why my sibling and I have in the works a very extensive, nearly from scratch rewrite of s2+ that does involve grown up Daniel lol
(Also thank you about his jacket, I put a decent bit of thought into it lol, I wanted him to have a leather jacket but bright and colourful, and the design on it is Ratchet-inspired bc that's his grandpa in our au)
I'll admit I wanted the witwickys to show explicitly because Daniel is clearly a kid heavily influenced by the whole "giant robot alien" thing literally his entire life and could function as a great compared/contrast to the Maltos own familial dynamics.
No exactly! Like he was raised around transformers, he's known them his whole life-- they are an integrated aspect of his family and life since the day he was born. Humans and transformers living together is what is normal for him! Congratulations Daniel, you managed to pioneer a completely new, unique human experience! But yea it would probably be good and helpful for the Maltos to get some advice and insight from another transformer/human blended family, ie the Witwickys. Which is part of why Daniel is in our Earthspark au in the first place lol. The other part is that he's a fun character and we like him
Oh yeah that's fun! The terrans being their own type of cybertronian life would definitely create meaningful differences though. A lot of the care stuff Daniel picked up from Ratchet growing up might not apply to the terrans.
AND also the fact that they're transformer kids being raised by humans rather than an adult transformer marrying into a human family and helping raise a human kid. Related but not identical scenarios!

but also YES like there is so much to explore here! I especially love to think about how pop culture has been affected by the known existence and presence of transformers on Earth. Like, how does this affect alien conspiracy people? How does the factual, objective confirmation that ALIENS EXIST affect things like art, music, movies and tv, any other kind of industry?? Also, surely there are more than like five Autobots total on Earth, maybe there are more that transitioned to civilian-hood after the war ended and also just are around, living and working amongst humans! So much to think about so much to consider. I want to see what Frenzy is posting on tiktok

What if Ratchet was in Earthspark? Here he is for our AU (Daniel For Scale). Grandpa of all time. His design is inspired in small elements by a lot of different Ratchets, mainly G1 and TFA.
Important facts about ES AU Ratchet:
Acts like a big grumpy grump all the time
Actually is full of kindness and gentleness and love and compassion
His holoform has a (fraudulent) legal identity
Began a romantic relationship with Sparkplug Witwicky shortly(ish) after the autobots landed on earth
They got legally gay married in Canada in 2003. this is where Ratchet's fraudulent human identity comes in
Follows what he believes in always, dgaf about things like "authority" and "the law" or "the american military"
After the Decepticons lost their last medic on earth in the 90's (and also due to friction between Autobots and US military command, proto-G.H.O.S.T) Ratchet went neutral and set up a new repair bay with the Witwicky's where they treated both autobots and decepticons
After the war ended and G.H.O.S.T was formed, Ratchet immediately got himself on their shitlist for refusing to wear the G.H.O.S.T badge and insisting on treating and giving checkups to the imprisoned decepticons
G.H.O.S.T was so insistent tho that for the sake of his and the Witwicky's safety they basically had to go into hiding and moved to Canada.
Specifically Kingston, Ontario, because as a Canadian that's funny to me
His catchphrases are "Bah >:/" and "Mehh >:/"
Hates Megatron personally. Has nothing to do with Autobot or Decepticon anything he just doesn't like him
His humansona is a man named Roger btw. Ratchet is so good at being a robot in disguise the Witwicky's Kingston neighbours don't even know "Roger" is actually the holomatter projection of a giant alien robot's humansona.

Basically what if tfp Starscream got randomly dropped in My Little Pony but instead of going back to his own universe actually decides to take this opportunity for a fresh start away from Megatron and everything else that's always fucking him over where he can finally grow and heal and move on from All That Shit but also rather than be reformed by the power of friendship TM he actually blossoms into the unserious cartoon villain he was always meant to be because the stakes are absolutely NOTHING and it's just Very Fun. And after becoming a permanent resident of Ponyland he turns into this sort of uhhh pony dragon thing and eventually turns purple or smth maybe to represent his growth and healing journey. as a villain.
His latest scheme includes pretending to turn over a new leaf and get a job as Princess Celestia's interior decorator and he IS doing that but also is using the pony furniture and upholstery catalogue as a cover to obtain parts to build his new EVIL MACHINE. He's not sure exactly what it does yet but it has a big red button on it that will probably do something evil when he pushes it. The Mane Six thwart is villainous plans every time of course but he's not mad about it because that's just the routine. the point isn't to WIN it's to have fun and do evil stuff.
