I have made an art blog! I will be reposting a lot of art before I get to the new stuff

Crwbannwen my procrastinating ghost turtle artist is alive again!

I am known for drawing animals, especially bugs, spiders, and frogs. As well as fan art for Hello from the Hallowoods, Winx Club, and most recently For the Gods among other things.

I do a lot of OC art. There’s so many of them.

Some bug sketches I drew a while back while listening to a For The Gods episode (DnD podcast by Theatre of the Unaligned for those who don’t know it).

As a result of drawing it while listening, whenever I look at the eyes of the fly I’m vividly reminded of Apollo Rattleskorn making it very difficult for Nix to haggle ration prices

Chaotic polycule

Time for some OC art. These guys are all DnD characters, but these are versions of them with extended lore that I probably wouldn’t play with (Ava has a playable version with a less dramatic backstory and less op homebrew) but I do like to rotate these ones in my mind and write about them.

We have:

The human great old one warlock Zola Cyster, who is under a lot of pressure to live up to expectations of her adoptive mother; The orc battle master fighter Jasker Imisen, raised by elves as the squire to a noble; the moon elf cleric/paladin multiclass Ardeth Gotisle, trying to navigate his relatively isolated life as the only child of a noble family; and the silver siren glamour bard Ava Marsh-Hargreaves, pretending to be human so she can learn ethics and morals

For The Gods

It’s probably been noticed that I’ve been drawing these guys over the past few weeks. Here’s a post with all of them together!

It took me forever to find these in my files because I copied an old canvas and didn’t rename it. Meaning all these files were called ‘Arnold Eggers sketch’

Reeza Lyarmark

I did it? I finished a series of art work thingies? Behold Reeza. I did it. I drew her. She was probably the most difficult to draw. I don’t know if that’s because I’m real busy for an unemployed person rn or something else but I did it. I’ll post all of them in one post at some point. Probably. I’m contemplating making a separate art blog so it might be after that gets made.

Anyway, this post is about Reeza, not my schedule. There is a particular central theme to Reeza’s character that really interests me but it’s not one I can articulate super well in English because the best words for it are from my other two languages. But I’ll loosely translate them as ‘habitat’. Instead of home in the English sense it’s more a familiar place you are rooted to that forms part of your identity. Reeza’s relationship with her cultural origins is so very complex. There are times when it’s a great comfort to her (I loved the part where she finds the ocean comforting as a reminder of her home), but also so many times where it’s something quite unpleasant for her. And the mix of being respected but unwelcome by her people is an extension of this.

I’ve done it! Now as I’ve made standard for these posts I need the art, a paragraph about one of the reasons I personally connect to or like these characters, a reference to my older brother that I’m trying to make watch both ftg and jttq, and a no context reference to something I draw far too much and I’m trying to branch out from. Honestly I think the current list of bugs, a ginger with a bullet wound, and frogs summarises my art already. Uh… am I allowed to add ftg characters to that list now instead?

Willow Tavashire

Only one character left! Had a lot of fun drawing Willow! I realised during this that I’ve never drawn a tiefling… which also means I’ve probably never drawn any of my best friend’s DnD characters… I may need to fix that…

Willow is a lore bard and while I’m not a member of The Gorsedd (Welsh society of ovates, bards, and druids), I would so love to be. Avoiding the history lesson on cultural oppression in my country, bards are important to me and Willow’s attitude to music and bardic culture is a lot more accurate to what I experience growing up and living immersed in modern bardic culture than most depictions I see of bards. Make music important to a character and I usually adore it. Not trying to write an essay here so I’m not going to detail every element of Willow’s relationship with music that feels so very authentic, but themes like family, loss, and healing all tie in very nicely with it.

Reeza’s next! You’d think I’d be good at shading green skin by now between all the frogs, humanoid frogs, and frog cryptids I draw but no.

Vai Elderwick

What’s this? I actually did the thing I said I’d do and drew another for the gods character? There’s no real order to who I’m drawing except I was scrolling through photos I had of friends on my phone and found one of my brother where his hair just made a great reference to draw Vai. Thank you older brother. Please never cut your hair. I would cry. (and also you should listen For The Gods. Everyone tell my brother to listen to For The Gods)

Vai is so incredibly fun. And the connections and chemistry Vai has with every other player character is so good. And in my classic ‘I went to a rich person uni as a state school student’, I know people very like Vai. Rich students very burdened by an expectation to keep up appearances socially, academically, and in Vai’s case also literally with hiding the scars. And then that rigidity gets mismatched with a lot of chaos. I just love when I can see parts of people I know in characters that share a demographic with them, I think it’s a big testament to the creator(s) when that happens.

Drew this at a pride event with my friends. We had a picnic it was great. Someone said they thought Vai was pretty.

Nix of the Rattleskorn family

When I was listening to this podcast I kept thinking about how much I really loved the cast of characters equally and they all interested me in a lot different ways but then Nix got his religion surgically removed and my brain rewired itself and latched on to him more than the others.

I won’t write a full essay on why… well I might but in my phone notes; not here and not now. But a big part of it is the theme of autonomy. It’s very Blodeuwedd, I suppose, when a person is created for a purpose, or chosen for a purpose, and given close to or straight up no say. This is just how it is for them. Even when being asked to consent to the vivisection, Nix is misinformed about what they’ll do to him, and also being chosen as the family pet in the most recent episodes, they all add to this theme of autonomy that I really enjoy in characters.

Prolly gonna draw some portraits of all the player characters because I’m trying to learn how to draw things that aren’t insects better… I can only reliably draw bugs… and, as I previously mentioned, I love all of these characters so much!
