“Get the fuck out.”
Sorry I just... wanted to know if I could borrow your... nevermind.
Sorry.
all good just a week ago ▶ zoe & beckanne
"It wasn’t funny to begin with," Zoe responded, her fingers tightening their grip on the handle of the bat until her knuckles were white with it. "Let’s hope it’s a cat." With quiet, careful steps, she began walking towards the source of the noise; further into the dark shadows of the basement. She hoped, dearly, that it really wasn’t anything other than some half-feral mongrel with fur. If it was a Soldier, she wasn’t sure what she’d do.
It couldn’t be a person. It just couldn’t be - there was no way in, or at least there shouldn’t be, so unless they’d snuck in through the front door..
Inhaling through her nose as softly as possible, Zoe eased her tense shoulders down, preparing for a worst case scenario as she honed in on the source of it; a tiny squeak followed by a hiss sounding through the basement as she pushed a stack of crates to the side.
At once, she let out a relieved breath, bat still held in her right hand - just in case.
"We got real lucky, Becks," Zoe sighed, happy to find that there weren’t any serious breaches in their makeshift security system.
“It has to be a cat. It's definitely just a cat.” She repeated. “I mean if it was- if it wasn't an animal he...it would've already come out-or something.” Zoe didn't look as scared as she was but the longer they spent down there the scariest everything was, she couldn't be the only one picturing the worst.
Beckanne turned around, stepping away from Zoe, just enough to check the other side of the room. Everything was where it was supposed to be, nothing unusual or strange at first sight. She walked between boxes and piles of stuff but couldn't find the smallest trace of a person hiding down there. It didn't make sense anyway, a single person against a whole gang?
Suddenly they heard a hiss and Beckanne jumped, half scared and half relieved that they weren't going to be murdered in a basement. “Shit that-that's it? Oh god it scared me.” She said approaching Zoe but still holding the knife. "Should we go upstairs now?" She asked. "We were being paranoid, that's all. Nobody needs to know about this." She stretched his neck, feeling a little bit more relaxed. "I guess so. But, I mean there's no way someone could break into the store without being noticed..." We got lucky, it sounded like there was chance to be unlucky. "Corbin made sure of that, right?" What was the point of having all those rules and security if it wasn't actually keeping them safe.
Moth's Wings [Sophia + Beckanne]
Sophia only shook her head at Beckanne’s suggestion; the Rag Dolls’ reputation didn’t matter at all – there was no way they’d make it to a second story window; most people couldn’t even do that when they were sober.
”Ya think?” the brunette laughed, and put a hand on the Crybaby’s back, urging her down from where she was, a quarter way up the wall. “Come down from there, you’re gonna hurt yourself.”
Just as the words had left her mouth, a metallic click sounded from the main entrance, followed by at least three more, and the rustling sound of a chain. Then, the door opened.
When the moonlight shone upon his face, Soph recognized Corbin Inman – dark blond, grey-eyed, handsome. They had met a couple of times, shook hands the first time Soph had been to visit Beckanne at the store. He looked too well-groomed to have just woken up, so he must have been awake, and had (thankfully) heard them making noise outside and come to help. ”Try to keep your key on you at all times, Beckanne,” he spoke softly, stepping aside so the two girls could come through the door. When Soph passed, he gave her a small smile, and she felt her her stomach tingle stupidly.
Beckanne fell to the floor as the door opened. She hadn't been able to climbeven half the first floor so luckily she didn't hurt herself at all. At least physically. She managed to stand up cursing in a low voice and looked up to see Corbin standing in front of her.
“Shit, sorry Corbs I-we... yeah sorry I promise I won't lose the key...again.” She admitted. If she wasn't drunk, she'd be so embarrassed. She knew Sophie and Corbin already knew each other so she didn't bother introducing them. Beckanne stepped inside after her, avoiding Corbin's eyes as the door closed behind them. Her friend already knew the way to her bedroom so she followed her through the hallway.
“What was that?” She asked Sophie. “Did I just saw the great Inman flirt with you?” In a matter of seconds she had already picture both her friends dating and together and imagined a million different scenarios. That's what she did, she tended to focus on other people's lives and forgot to sort out her own problems. She was able to turn an innocent smile into a dramatic story, and being tipsy wasn't going to help. "Is there something you'd like to tell me?"
Moth's Wings [Sophia + Beckanne]
”Climb?” Sophie’s voice was going near shrill with the urgency her bladder was imposing on her, and was close to having to hop around – anything to keep her from relaxing. Finally, the brunette realized she’d have to give in, and groaned loudly, running with very short steps around the corner of the building. ”Keep watch!” She called over her shoulder to Beckanne as she disappeared behind the store, praying that no one would come to a window and see her.
The only thing that even remotely passed for shelter around the old building were the disguised cars (which she didn’t want to pee on), and a small, wiry bush. She headed towards it, frantic, and – upon arriving –pushed her jean shorts and panties to her knees, sitting down. She peed for what felt like ages, but the relief she felt from the exact moment she let go distracted her from the wait. When she was done, she pulled up her shorts and buttoned them, heading back around the store to find Beck without lingering too long and getting embarrassed about the puddle she’d made in the sand. It’d be gone by morning.
”Okay!” The Rag Doll said loudly as she came back around to the front of the building. A giant smile made its way onto her face again once she saw Beckanne – it was still funny. “What do we do?” She asked, trying – and failing – not to laugh.
Beckanne nodded still laughing, watching Sophie suffer in front of her. She was about to go pound on the door when Soph gave in. “Yeah, yeah just be quick!” She said in a low voice as her friend disappeared round the corner. She wasn't sure where to look at. At the windows, at the road... or at the quiet and never ending desert in front of her. Her ears were still ringing even though they had left the club an hour ago, but it was the only sound within a hundred meter radius so she didn't care.
Beckanne sat on the floor feeling a little bit tired all of a sudden. The lights were already off in the bedrooms but she couldn't see the main room from there so she wasn't sure who was up and who wasn't. Sophie was back fast, or at least it felt like seconds for Beckanne. She tripped over her own feet twice standing up but her friend had to pee in the bushes, so she didn't feel embarrassed at all.
“Now, we climb.” She answered pointing at the store. Using the pipes and overhangs they should be able to reach her window easy, but that was just in theory. “You wanna go first? You know, honor the rag doll's badass reputation and all that?" She asked after looking up and not feeling confident about her climbing skills. Beckanne stepped forward and let out a sigh, grabbing a sticking out beam. "Maybe we didn't think this through." He said turning her head to Sophie.
Doubt it. [he gasps in mock offense] You go shower.
Better yet - we’ll both go shower. Great idea, Jax. [slaps his own hand]
Excuse me?
Hope that’s not meant to be an insult.
But I guess I deserve it after that first impression.
Actually... nah, it wasn't.
Sorry for-bothering you, gotta get going now.
And that’s why you pulled me closer.
Maybe I'm madly in love with you and can't bear being so close to you but not being able to touch you.
/stands up/ Go take a shower or something sweetie.
I…
shit - sorry.
It's alright.
You always that foul mouthed?
Told you so. Don’t underestimate stoner strength, Brighton.
Yeah yeah, whatever. I'll get back at you for this, you'll see.
Gee /pulls him closer/ I could get high just by the smell Laurent, it's disgusting.
What the fuck you want?
Easy there, I thought you were someone else, sorry.
What an attitude...
Moth's Wings [Sophia + Beckanne]
Her Crybaby company was quick to leave the car; the Rag Doll only caught the slam of the door and a glimpse of a silhouette before Beckanne was gone, and she sat there staring dumbly for a minute before getting out to follow. She made sure to lock the truck behind her, tucking the key safely into the brown leather purse that hung at her hip, soft fringes tickling her wrist as she stuck her hand inside. The old car was beat-up, dusty and creaking, but she loved it, and if she woke up in the morning and it (or the key) was gone, she wouldn’t know what to do with herself.
When Sophia joined her friend at the convenience store’s main entrance, the dark-haired girl had her forehead pressed against the door, shoulders shaking with laughter. ”What, you’re kidding, right?” Soph was tempted to push past her to try the door herself, but knew it would be no use. “Can’t we just, like, knock, or something? I mean – isn’t anybody home?”
In addition to not having had anything besides nacho chips and peanuts to eat for the past eight hours or so, the brunette had begun to feel an overwhelming need to pee coming on, regretting her last drink back at the party. Quite ungracefully, the Rag Doll crossed her shorts-clad legs, pressing her thighs together to try and hold it in. ”Beck!” Her laugh held a tinge of desperation; as funny as the situation was, she really, really had to pee – which, frustratingly and hilariously enough, only added to it. “We have to get inside!”
Beckanne turned around still laughing and leaned against the door, covering her mouth with her hand. “Sure, try, go ahead and knock.” She answered moving aside. If by any chance there was somebody awake they wouldn't open the door being that late, safety rules and all that shit, and the rest of the gang was probably drunk or still partying somewhere.
She had managed to stop laughing and was trying to think about a plan when she realized why Soph was in such a hurry. She looked down desperately trying not to laugh and failing. “I know! I know but they won't open the door, they're always angry at me for losing things which isn't true like at all.” If you didn't count the key incident of course, she thought. ”Just... can you wait a minute?” She asked. “Or you can go to the back and do-whatever-whatever you have to do.” She finished bursting into laughter. She wouldn't find the situation that funny if she wasn't tipsy at the very least, but right then it was hilarious for her. “I think we're gonna have to climb up.” Her window was open and it wouldn't be the first time she climbed up the wall, but she had the feeling it wasn't going to be as easy as usual.
Alright, alright you're stronger than me, you win. /says between gasps, laughing/
all good just a week ago ▶ zoe & beckanne
"Hopefully— there won’t be," Zoe answered, sharply inhaling as she took one step down onto the first step of the stairs, getting a wooden creak in return. "Hello?" Her voice was far steadier than she thought it would be, even though her heart was racing quicker the more she considered what could be hiding down in the dark of the cellar. Another step down, and then another; the stair creaking and Zoe’s steps soft thumps against the wood. "There better not be anyone down here," she muttered, and then she stepped down from the last of the stair, her ballet flat shoes scuffling slightly against the cold cement floor.
Even though it was black as night down in the cellar and her eyes had yet to get used to it, there were no immediate silhouettes taking form in the expanding darkness around her. No streaks of platinum blonde - a soft exhale of relief left her.
Nothing jumped out at her, either, which meant that hopefully, the intruder was of the four-legged, easy to deal with-kind. Easier than a Toy Soldier, at least; no semi-political stance that needed consideration involved.
"I don’t think there’s anyone down here,” she called out to Beckanne. “Might be an anything, though. Cross your fingers for a cat.”
Zoe dodged her question but she didn't bring it up again. As she said, hopefully there wouldn't be a stranger-or worst, a soldier hiding down there. She thought trying really hard to believe it.
Beckanne crossed her fingers even though she knew it was just a saying. “If it's a cat I'm adopting it.” She said looking everywhere. However the phone didn't light up the place enough for them to be sure they were alone, it was still dark and full of things where someone could be hidden waiting for a chance to attack. Why would someone do that? How could someone sneak into the store and hide without nobody noticing him?. “Maybe you're right, maybe this is us being paranoid.” Beckanne said still in a low voice, just in case. “We should go back to-to the room.”
A sudden noise forced her to turn around and move closer to Zoe. Beckanne wasn't sure if it had been just her imagination or if something had actually moved. "This isn't funny anymore, let's get out out of here."
Exactly. It’d be awful. [A while later, Soph pulls in by the old store, parking against the wall and shutting off the lights and engine of her pickup truck] Fingers crossed.
Home sweet home. /says as she steps out of the car. Beckanne walks to the front door and tries to open the it. Of course it's locked. She puts her head against the door letting out a sigh before before bursting into laughter/
Shit, I really need to get my key back.
Yeah. Actually – can I stay over?
You guys always have so much good food; I don’t wanna wake up at the church tomorrow and eat pork rinds and canned tomato soup.
Yeah sure, how could I live with myself now knowing you'd have to eat canned food.
Let's hope someone left the door opened or we'll have to climb up to my room.
