We took a very long and bumpy Tuk Tuk ride out to Beng Mealea temple. It was an excellent adventure though and felt more intimate than in a minivan. The people in Cambodia are so sweet. All you have to do is smile and they smile back so warmly. All the kids love to say hello on the street and wave. You have to be careful with the food here though. I finally got food poisoning. It felt inevitable.ā¦

Maya and I decided to go to Agkor Wat at sunset to try to avoid the crowd. I think it was a good decision as the lighting was so fantastic. To summarize my experience in Laos, with one last good bye, the guards through the southern border to Cambodia added a fee to stamp the departure card which wasĀ required to get into Cambodia. Of course this was corruption and they were pocketing the money, but I knew by then not to put up a fight, especially when they control how you get out of the country. 4000 Islands, Laos
This trip started with the longest commute from Vang Vieng, Laos all the way to the 4,000 Islands. We had to take a minivan from Vang Vieng to Vientiane. From there, we boarded a sleeper bus to Pakse (souther Laos). I lost my friends there, and I continued on the bus to main island where I then took a ferry to Don Dhet. It was ridiculous. A group of us took a last minute mini van from Vientiane to Vang Vieng. Itās about 3 hours north of the capital. The roads are insane and the trip was gnarly as we were tossed around the mini van with every bump, every second. We were able to book a decent hotel when we arrived though and the next day rented some cheap and crappy motorbikes to check out the Blue Lagoon. Itās easy to get to andā¦

This story starts with an evening bike ride down the Mekong River. There are plenty of bike rental stores near the river where you can give them an ID card and 10,000 KIP then get around the city for a whole day. My journey took me on a bus from Luang Prabang to Vientiane. Of course, I was sold a āVIPā bus that showed up with all the glass cracked and busted up. There was nothing VIP about it. The driver also seemed new, as he couldnāt really shift gears. We ended stalling a minimum of 25 times, including on mountain hills where we sort of fell back some. This journey actually started with me renting a motorbike and heading to Chiang Dao on Ā a whim. I wasnāt even sure where I would stay. Close to sunset I luckily found a resort where they provided me a tent and blankets and breakfast for only 150 baht. I took the overnight sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, boarding the cabin around 8:30 pm. For me this worked perfectly. I got to travel and a place to stay in oneĀ ticket. I left Koh Lanta at 9:30 am. I stayed at Hey Beach Hostel and loved it. June, the hostel owner gave me a ride to the pier and I started a long ass journey. It was like the amazing race. On my last full day around Koh Lanta, I took my moped to the ferry and rode over to Koh Lanta Noi. I was staying at Koh Lanta Yai, which is the popular tourist island, but needed something cheap and new. There are a million islands out here (okay like 52 are a part of the Koh Lanta archipelago). You can go island hopping endlessly in the Krabi area.
