Your Rocksmas stone is: Skull Fossil! I was torn on what to get the great rock collector Steven Stone, so I thought perhaps a rare fossil was in order. Alas, you probably already have a sample, but here you go nonetheless. I have also given you this guide to stones that can be found in the Oreburgh Mine.

Before the Zorua even had a chance to hand Steven his gift, the explorer’s eyes went wide as something caught his nose. 

Sniff sniff.

"I smell something." Almost immediately, every muscle in his body grew tense as his sniffer began to pick something up. 

Sniff sniff.

"What is this…" He murmured, his body quivering with desire. It was getting closer, he could feel it in the pit of his lower intestine. What was it?! He had to know! Now!! ”WHAT ON EARTH IS-“

Fossils.

"HNNG!" He gasped, spotting the Zorua at his feet. "YOU HAVE A FOSSIL!" He shouted, trusting his nose. "Ooh, and a note!"

He reads the note.

"Aw… wow… thank you! A Skull Fossil - I could regenerate a Cranidos! Wowzers!! And would you look at that - the newest addition to my geological studies library!”

After reading the last part of the message, he bent down and looked to the Zorua. "I don’t know if you’re taking return messages or not, but if you can, let Roark know that I would be honored to sign his fossil case any time.”

Feeding the small Pokemon a few PokeBlocks that were conveniently in his pocket, he watched the little guy, excited to examine and start probing away at his new fossil.

Unown Power || Eusine & Steven

"R-royalty?" Eusine was instantly brought out of his head at Steven’s words again. Laughing a bit, he held his hands up in innocence.

"O-oh no, my ancestry never left Johto, and from the design of the room furnishings and structue, I can definitely tell these designs are not Ancient Johtonian. Far from it, actually. In fact, these might even be—"

Eusine jumped several feet backwards more at the sudden bark from Steven more than Aggron’s stray tail. Echo jumped as well, though he seemed far more interested in the sparkles coming from the candle. While he ran over to investigate the area where the candle exploded, Eusine resumed his conversation with Steven. At least they agreed that, for as odd as this place was, there was definitely something here that was worthwhile the Unown wanted them to see. However…

"I wonder though…is it all really fake? Every time we have interacted with a creation of the Unown, it has disappeared upon simple touch, so why didn’t that happen when we touched the bed? Perhaps not everything here is mere illusio—"

Before Eusine could finish, he cried out suddenly as he saw a black figure burst out from under the bedskirt, followed closely by Echo. He seemed absolutely fixated on catching it, crashing into and sometimes knocking over several pieces of furniture as he pursued the odd little thing all around the room. Finally pinning the creature on the ground with his ribbons, Echo looked up at Eusine with a pleasantly satisfied smirk. However, even before Eusine had caught up to Echo, he had already figured out what the ‘evil black thing’ Echo wanted to catch was.

Steven shrieked at the sound of Eusine's cry, jumping as far away from the bed as humanly possibly. He, too, confused the black mass for some 'dark evil' in the midst of all the yelling and furniture-moving. 

"Oh!" Steven exclaimed once he finally connected the dots. "Be careful, Echo!" The last thing any of them wanted to do was anger the beings that were making all of this possible in the first place.

As Steven watched Eusine reprimand Echo, he couldn't help but feel a little bad - not just for Echo, but for Aggron, as well. Is that what Steven looked like when he was yelling at Aggron? God, he hoped not. 

Listening to Eusine's revelation, he looked back to the Unown, wondering if this could all be true. Was this creature spying on them this entire time? Who's to say that the entire room wasn't just made of thousands of small, fragile Unown, watching their ever move? And yet, who was to say that all of this could, in fact, be real? If so, why would the two of them need to be watched? Was there any possible danger in-

It was at that moment that Steven caught Eusine's gaze and redirected his attention to the maid that was now at their door. Suddenly alert, Steven froze into a similar gaze, trading glances of astonishment until the woman finally broke the silence and ran away. 

"What was all of that about?" He just barely managed to get those words out before the Sigilyph sentries arrived. "Eusine, watch out!!"

Steven wasn't a fan of Sigilyph, nor Yamasks, nor Cofagrigus for that matter. Those Pokemon were often found in ancient tombs and chambers, guarding the spirits of royalty for centuries. Steven had dealt with them on several occasions but what did this specific occasion spell out for them? Should he fight? Would that upset the Unown? What effect would it have on this world?

The sight of Eusine being halted by gravity shook Steven from his split-second contemplation. And so, seeking a quick resolution, he looked to Aggron for help. "Aggron, Avalanche!! QUICKLY!!"

"Hey, yeah, I’m an official Team Rocket Executive with the new official Team Rocket uniform.

Here you go. Take it. Cherish it.”

Gasp.

"It's... it's... it's.... BEAUTIFUL. Thank you, kind Stranger!"

"A while back, during my last year under the title - this was when I had decided to restart my travels across the region - I had left Evergrande in search of specific fossil relic and was gone for an entire month. I rarely got to battle anyone as Champion so I didn’t think I’d miss anything but, sure enough, the one time I go missing, a trainer shows up, manages to defeat the Elite 4, and reaches the final level expecting to battle me….and, of course, I wasn’t there…”

A Mission of Mega Importance || Korrina & Steven

Mission Assigned To: Steven Stone, Korrina Archambault

Mission Objective: To meet business partners at the edge of Kanto for the transaction and smuggling of a shipment of Mega Stones.

Additional Notes: Mega Stones may or may not have been obtained legally. You may or may not have police on your trail as a result.

"Isn’t this exciting, Lucario?" 

The blue canid gives a bark in agreement, finishing his kibble and wagging his tail in excitement. Korrina stretches out and rolls the wheel of a single white skate, tapping her heel impatiently.

"It’ll be just like in Breaking Bad or something!" she giggles, making a finger pistol and mock firing it. "I wonder if we’ll be meeting Team Rocket’s business partners out in the desert—does Kanto even have a desert, though?”

Lucario shrugs.

"Well then, I guess I’ll assume it’s a desert until proven otherwise. I mean, I did pack for a desert. I’d feel pretty silly if all this sunblock didn’t go to good use while we were out.” She pats her backpack and sighs. “Also, even though it’s only been winter for like two days, I’m already so done with winter. If I was God—and I’m not saying I am—I would make sunshine mandatory every day. I mean, not like, really harsh sunshine because that would be mean to Ice Types and Water Types, but pleasant sunshine. Sunshine that makes you want to do things.”

Korrina counts her supplies one last time. S’more granola bars. Check. Roller skates. Check. Sunglasses. Check. Taser gun. Check. Money. Check. Sunblock. Check. A copy of How To Survive In The Desert. Check andddddddd… check!

Everything is in order.

Folding the flap of the backpack shut, she hoists the straps over Lucario’s shoulders and secures the waist buckle. The way he looks, it almost reminds her of their journey to find his Mega Stone, but this trip should only take a couple of days if all goes well.

Appropriate, Korrina thinks with an inward sigh. They are going to pick up Mega Stones, after all.

"It’s poor decorum, though," she says after a beat, "to keep one’s partner waiting. Alas, here Lady Korrina sits around, unable to leave on her mission without… without… uh…"

She looks over the mission roster.

"Steven Stone. Oh! Neat! His last name is ‘Stone’ and this mission is about stones! Isn’t that the funniest thing ever?” Lucario doesn’t respond. “Still, I feel like I know that name somewhere. Like, it’s ringing all the bells in my head. Every single one, including the dinner bell, and that’s usually reserved for food. But I can’t think of—”

Her diatribe is interrupted as she hears approaching footsteps. Wheeling around, Korrina comes face to face with a silver-haired man, opening her mouth:

"And Lady Korrina’s fabulous mission partner makes his grand appearance!"

… Finally, she wants to add.

"Well, it looks like we've got everything we need," he said, double checking his backpack one last time. A toothbrush, a seemingly endless supply of protein bars, a change of clothes, and the roller blades he held in his hands just about summed up all he needed for this trip. It was unbelievably lighter than what he was used to carrying, but this specific mission was supposed to be a brisk one and required him to travel light. No elaborate camp-out's, no extra baggage, nothing that could possibly slow them down.

In all honesty, Steven had never embarked on a mission quite so... top-secret? Was that right word? Hm... How about urgent? No- 'Shady' was the word that came to mind but he was trying to approach his current career with Team Rocket from a more positive perspective.

Oh, suuuure! There is a good chance we might indeed be smuggling Mega Stones illegally, but there's nothing to worry about! It's all in the name of science, so that's okay... right?

In a final attempt to validate himself, he slung the backback over his shoulders and allowed Archen, his selected Pokemon companion for this adventure, to perch himself up on his shoulder. And just like that, the two were ready to go!

Steven locked the door to his room and quickly made his way downstairs and out the Eastern wing, spotting his assigned partner for this mission just a few feet out the door.

"Hello there!" He said, laughing softly to himself after that introduction of her's. "So you're Lady Korrina. My name is Steven, it's a pleasure to meet you."

Unown Power || Eusine & Steven

Eusine was pulled away from his contemplating when Steven requested he go first. Actually, it was really the tone of Steven’s voice that got Eusine’s attention. His air of positivity and certainty he had held up until now had completely vanished. Now Eusine was surprised to see a rather uncharacteristically nervous side. His enthusiasm had been replaced by some kind of tentative excitement, like a kid in line for his first big roller-coaster.

He was familiar with that feeling all too well himself, as well as the sorts of things that tend to cause it. He’d been doing far too much of it himself as of late. On top of that it was a little rude to simply expect Steven to just openly tell the Unown his deepest wishes right in front of someone he could barely call an acquaintance at this point.

Eusine’s eyes softened a bit as he frowned sympathetically. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to strike a nerve. I was only trying to explain my theory on the Unown’s behavior, not pry into your personal affairs. They are certainly none of my business and I fully respect your privacy.”

The voices coming from the radio were a little louder now. In fact, they almost sounded like they were growing more agitated, as if they were becoming impatient at the two’s indecisiveness. Eusine grew a little on edge, not wanting the wrath of Arceus’ helpers nor to lose his chance at such enlightenment. “E-even so, I can’t…

"…really guarantee anything I ask of the Unown will hold up very well since my desires are a little…muddled for me at the moment."

Walking up to the runes, he took a moment to contemplate how he should word the command. He knew neither of them, in their current states, would be able to make a proper command to the Unown. Then an idea crossed his mind. Neither of them would be able to make a proper command in their current conscious states, but the Unown don’t care about that. They care about the heart’s desires. Commands made by the heart are the kind they really draw power from. The only problem was putting it into words.

"…Or maybe it doesn’t have to be ‘words’ per se."

Not wanting to waste anymore time, he decided to act on his idea, rearranging the runes as he began to write his command. “…I’ll see what I can do though.” After a few more thoughtful switches, he finished his phrase:

"Oh, it's okay," he said softly. "I just need time to think.. about... things."

And on that note, he was gone. Mentally gone, at least. Steven was buried in his own inner works, swimming in his sub-conscious as he struggled to figure out what it was that he secretly desired. Why was it so difficult for him? Shame? Humiliation? He couldn't explain.

Oblivious to Eusine's actions, Steven merely closed his eyes when the lights began to flash and quietly waited for them to stop.

"Wh- where are we?" He finally said, his eyes opening up and adjusting. He had never been here before, that much was certain, but it sure looked elegant. Gingerly, his hands reached for the quilt he had been sitting on - genuine Mareep's wool! Such fine detail... in fact, upon further inspection, just every object in this room seemed grander and larger than life, both figuratively and literally. This bed was huge! And just about every possible ornament had been crafted with the utmost care and detail. 

Slowly taking in his surroundings, Steven couldn't help but admire every drop of craftsmanship that went into designing and decorating such a beautiful bedchamber. 

"This place is gorgeous," he murmured softly to himself.

"Aggron, be careful." Some few feet away, Aggron was following Echo and making his way towards the fireplace. The chamber was huge and so were the doors, but Steven wondered if he should return Aggron to his PokeBall and perhaps call upon someone a bit more... petite?

Steven's attention was drawn back to Eusine as he stopped in front of the fireplace, the warm glow lighting up the edges around his frame. "I... I don't know," was his simple response. He couldn't imagine why Eusine would want to be here, but then again, were Steven's own personal desires that clear-cut and obvious? Absolutely not. Perhaps there was more to this than the two initially realized. "Does your ancestry trace back to any form of royalty?" 

And at that moment, we hear a small crash!

"Aggron!" Steven watched helplessly as the beast's tail accidentally swung into a nearby oil lamp, the entire event unfolding in slow-motion. But what shocked Steven the most was that, instead of lighting the entire carpet on fire, the lamp exploded into an array lights... just like the pizza box.

"Oh... right... it's not real."

There was a bittersweet inflection to those words; this room was so beautiful, so visually appealing and tasteful to the eyes, and yet, Steven was just reminded that none of it was real. Not permanent, at least.

A little transfixed on what just happened to be angry, Steven merely gave Aggron one stern look and redirected his attention to Eusine. 

"Do you think this entire room is going to disintegrate like that lamp?" He asked, only before being struck by an epiphany. "Or maybe the Unown are trying to show you something...!!"

Even though the lights had basically fully retreated into the wall at this point, Eusine’s vision was still hampered by the dreaded after-flashes. It was similar to those of a camera’s, only the intensity was as if he was being assaulted by the world’s largest paparazzi. By the time he found the walls of the chamber finally coming into view again, he noticed that he was somehow still standing despite his legs having turned to rubber. In fact, the only reason he was still standing was because he had instinctively latched onto the nearest wall-like column.

He was still gripping it tight, like a startled cat, though his eyes were still frozen directly ahead of him, in his partner’s direction. He thought being paired up with someone like Steven, who shared his love of mythology and legends, would ensure a smooth investigation. At the very least he didn’t have to worry about getting flat-out attacked like he feared daily at HQ. Unfortunately, as Eusine now looked on at the steel-type specialist’s pleasurably guilty expression, he knew what he was really in for.

Morty always had a similar character about him as well when they would explore sites together. Even though Morty and Eusine knew each other better, Steven so far seemed to also be fulfilling the same roles Morty did. These included grounding him when Eusine flew off his somewhat sensitive handle and watching Eusine turn pathetically to jelly at the sight of whatever Morty ‘innocently’ provoked, activated, etc. For as many frayed nerves and white hairs Eusine carried with him from such experiences, part of him honestly missed it all. As such Eusine oddly felt more ‘content’ now with that notion floating in his head.

It still didn’t change the fact that Steven just scared the living daylights out of him though with his ‘pizza box’ stunt. At least he wasn’t proving to be as…morbid, as Morty tended to get.

Eusine waited for his legs to wake up again before slowly sliding his arms away from the wall column. “A-ah, um…y-y-yes…th-that makes sense……” As Eusine tried to drag himself out of his dazed state, he watched Echo skip happily around the pizza box. Echo seemed to think Steven’s idea was great, as expected of the troublemaking Sylveon. When Echo tried to further show his satisfaction by firmly seating himself on top of the box, he found himself kissing the floor as the box suddenly exploded into a flurry of glittering starlights.

Somewhat oblivious to Eusine's obvious terror, Steven stared hungrily at the pizza box. The two of them had been cooped up in this chamber for the past, what - three days? - and their rations largely consisted of your typical non-perishables: canned veggies, maybe some bread, an endless supply of nutrition bars for Steven, that sort of stuff. And Steven was used to this kind of diet; he was always out and about exploring caves, having little drink, not seeing the light of day for extended periods of time, etc.. It was all very normal to him, but hey... it might be nice to have a box of pizza just magically appear at your feet. So, in Steven's head, all of his actions were perfectly justified. 

He was about to reach for the pizza when Echo beat him to it... or maybe not, seeing as how the box vanished into a burst of light. "What? NO!" He cried out. "Why did it do that?? I wanted that pizza!" Helplessly, he bore the eyes of a wounded child as he looked to Eusine for the answers.

"...the utmost passion for..." He murmured to himself, weighing those words in. He was initially confused by Eusine's revelation but, to some hypothetical extent, the man just might have been onto something.

Wish for something you really believe in, something you really want with all your heart.

Somebody, somewhere in Steven's sub-conscious was whispering those words to him right now. Some innocent voice from the past. He didn't know who's voice it was, but as the gravity of those words sank in, he found himself taken to a deeper, more introspective state of mind.

What do I really want? What is it that my heart burns for and yearns to achieve?

Deep down, he knew what the answer was all along. He was just afraid. And nervous. And excited. But certainly afraid. What he needed was time to come to terms with what his sub-conscious really wanted. 

His demeanor having shifted altogether, Steven looked to his partner for help. "Eusine... can you please go first?"

Sooooo, now that I've brought Steven back, I'm reaching out to everyone when I say, "Who would like a thread with Steven?" 

I'm actually really excited to bring him back because I just recently found new muse for him while watching Parks & Recreation. For any other viewers, I'm totally channeling Chris Traeger into my new interpretation of Steven, so I'm looking forward to that.

Anyway, I just picked up an awesome thread with Eusine and I'm sure I'll probably be threading with Sapphire-mun, no doubt. But for anyone who is seriously interested in threading with me, please send me a message in my inbox so we can start whipping up some awesome plot ideas! :D
