A system of incentives and sanctions reinforced the policy: healthcare providers received cash or in-kind payments for each sterilized woman, while promotions, demotions, and the allocation of medical equipment were tied to the fulfillment of sterilization targets and quotas. Deceptive practices were widespread. Many women were misinformed about the nature of the procedure or told it was minor. Within a broader context of poverty and exclusion, sterilization often became a transactional means of accessing healthcare or food, services the state was already obligated to provide.

most of us understand that the freedom of the press in a capitalist country means the freedom for capitalists to hire armies of journalists and editors to publish content whose ideological outlook is compatible with maintaining capitalism. we're so used to seeing it that it can be difficult to see what isn't being printed. there's a vast amount of labour disputes over hours, pay, and workplace safety that rarely get covered. we rarely see stories about which injuries and illnesses are common in particular trades and what might be done about it. the few union disputes that do get reported are so notable because the reporting is so rare. class struggle is erased from popular consciousness by being erased from the news. this is why we in the communist movement need our own news media

this is true, but right now to break DRM is super mega illegal and setting up shadow libraries sends you to jail, for life. people who hack video games get sent to jail. reverse engineering is illegal as fuck.

if we enforced anti privatisation that would look like forced licensing by nation states, like you discovered a drug? now make the formula and its manufacture public. its much more complicated. simply abolishing the threat of IP litigation protects the people who make the ongoing IP regime bearable and encourage more people to be involved in efforts to liberate intellectual property secrets.
