A short story I wrote, hope you enjoy!- It was him all a long... The man I shared a bed. with, my body with and so many other moments that are now hard to keep track of...The one person in this world that I thought would stand by me through any possible raging storm that may have come our way, but in the end he was the darkest storm of all.
I should have seen the signs before. There were comments, jokes that were subtle admissions to who he truly is, and deafening silence that screamed approval of the injustices happening to our fellow man....
The cards are all on the table now, we stand in the middle of the vacant road just like a cliche western, but in place of old times saloons we are surrounded by burning rubble, the sounds of chaos from people fighting for their own side of what they interpret as the right side of history. The smell of smoke and terror lay thick in the air.
No words were exchanged between myself and the person I once shared vows with, shared my secrets with, and tried to build a life together with. Instead, we stare at each with a glint, conveying that neither one of us plans to back down from this stand-off. He is currently 10 feet away from me with his weapon of choice in his left hand... I know what I have to do, but I do not take joy in this moment as I raise my armed hand for my first strike. I allow a single tear to roll down my cheek, one of us will not be making back to safety today.
And so here our final dance starts....with a band on his left arm and my lips painted victory red...
