The phrasing in this statement clearly shows the mindset of some of these individuals. They don’t feel any connection or compassion to what is happening, they just don’t fucking care. And they’re not afraid to say it either. It’s TERRIFYING. Look at this:
I can’t get behind the violence and the destruction in the name of justice.
It makes me wonder, did they get behind the violence and destruction of an officer kneeling on the neck of a black man in the so-called name of justice? Is that something “they can get behind?”
It does nothing but take away the focus and validity of your cause. If you want others to be open to your cause, if you want your cause’s impact to have longevity…
Your, your, your. No “our cause” or even “this important cause”. For this individual, this is NOT their cause. It’s yours and they don’t seem to want to show any compassion or solidarity with it. And so they label it as “your cause”, please don’t expect them to support YOUR CAUSE unless you do so within the boundaries of what they deem acceptable.
“protest peacefully – no matter what they throw at you.”
I didn’t even have to bold this part, this person put it in bold themselves. “No matter what they throw at you?” This person wants me to ignore the long list of black people being brutalized and murdered in America- that’s not enough to get angry about. No matter what they throw at you? What they’ve thrown at me is the constant fear and terror and anxiety and profound sorrow and worry that MY SON, MY FATHER, MY PARTNER, MY NEPHEWS, MY COUSINS, MY FRIENDS may possibly be brutalized and murdered because they are black. That’s what’s being thrown at me, but for this person- it’s apparently not enough.
Don’t go and destroy your own city. -
This person can’t or refuses to see that this isn’t about property damage and destroying a city. This is about dismantling a violent, racist and destructive system that has taken too many lives because we are black.
I haven’t expressed my feelings over the atrocities in my nation on this platform because I talk about it continuously in daily life and I use Simblr/Tumblr as an escape. But I couldn’t stay quiet over this. THIS mentality is why it’s dangerous for me and my family to exist.
