sorry for the ass one shots i’m better with requests
i picked the people who i wanted to be in the seven—it’s necessary to the one shot plot… definitely…
Today was going to be like any other day.
You wake up, shower, change into your ridiculously revealing super suit, eat some breakfast, and head into the boardroom for today’s instructions from Sage and Homelander.
Your black boots clack on the polished marble floor with every step towards your seat.
Ever since Soldier Boy joined the Seven, your seat got moved up. You now sit on his right, closest to him.
Sage is opposite you, and Noir is on your right. Starlight is next to Sage, and Firecracker is next to Noir.
Homelander never sits. Soldier Boy occupies his seat now, but that doesn’t matter anyways. Homelander doesn’t see himself as anyone’s equal. Sitting down, to him, would mean you were all on the same level.
He prefers to brood at the window.
“Now that everyone’s present…” Homelander pauses, giving you a chance to settle, “Let’s begin.”
You go through the familiar motions of the morning briefing, hearing everyone’s assignments being dished out by Sage, until, finally, her gaze falls to you and Soldier Boy.
“You two have an interview at 11am on ‘The Cameron Coleman Hour’, it’ll be a little… different than his usual interview style.” She comments, her sharp eyes missing nothing.
“Different?” You and Soldier Boy say at the same time, meeting eachother’s gaze simultaneously.
Homelander interjects, “Briefing over. Off you go.”
With a resigned sigh, you stand up, following Noir out. Soldier Boy falls into step beside you. Once he’s sure you’re out of Homelander’s hearing range, he leans in slightly, warm breath brushing your ear as you walk.
“Butcher wants us to go see the crew at the safe house tonight. Says he has something for us.”
You nod, head tilting slightly towards him subconsciously.
“You know anything about it yet?”
“You know Butcher. Always so fuckin’ vague…” He grumbles, body tensing slightly at the mere thought of Butcher.
You can’t blame him though. Butcher always has you risking your neck to do something for him.
“So, this interview. What do you think different means?” You glance at him, a small smile on your lips.
He shrugs, “Probably just some dating bullshit.”
“Bullshit? Wow, and here I was, thinking you liked the dating accusations.”
Soldier Boy lets out a low chuckle, hands coming to rest on his belt as he walks, hips swaying lightly, “Didn’t say I disliked them, sweetheart.”
“Well I guess we’ll find out your true feelings for me with Cameron Coleman.” I tease lightly, he bumps my shoulder with his own.
We arrive at our adjacent rooms, going our separate ways without another word.
Closing the door, I feel a presence in the room. I whirl around, fists raised. I let out a relieved sigh when I see Sage.
We’ve always had somewhat of a mutual understanding.
We both know how to play the game—we please Homelander, but don’t worship him.
“I have you a new supersuit.”
“Tell me it’s not more revealing.”
We both fall into silence. She meets my gaze with a rare hint of sympathy.
“Sage, come on! My boobs are basically out as it is! I look like a fucking prostitute already!”
“I know. But I also know that you and I are both aware you don’t have a choice. Homelander approved it.”
“This is so fucking unfair! Why do I have to wear the skimpiest outfit? Give it to Firecracker! She probably wants to wear something like that.”
“Homelander wanted it for you.”
“He thinks it’ll… please… Soldier Boy.”
“That’s ridiculous, Sage. And you know it.”
“Maybe. But it’s your only option right now.”
With a resigned sigh, you walk further into the room, “Show me it.”
Sage taps on her ipad, before tilting it towards you. Bile rises up in your throat. It barely even looks like a swimming costume.
“I’m not wearing that, Sage!” You snap, heading towards the door to go talk to Homelander. It’s a risky move, but with the stunt he’s trying to pull off, you’ve had enough.
Your hand latches onto the door handle and yanks it open, and you take a step out into the hallway, only to be greeted with Soldier Boy’s chest in your face.
“Ah! Shit, sorry.” You take a moment to catch your breath, before taking a step back, re-opening your door.
“What’s the matter, doll?” He asks, brows furrowed in concern, “I heard the noise from my room.”
“Homelander has a new suit for me.” Your voice drops lower, “It’s disgusting, Ben.”
He places a hand on your shoulder briefly, before crossing through your living room to look at Sage’s tablet.
“She’s not wearing that.” He decides instantly.
Soldier Boy cuts her off, “I said she’s not fuckin’ wearing that. Tell him I said so.”
She nods with finality, “Be ready to leave in 5. You’re getting taken to Coleman’s studio.”
And with that, Sage leaves your room. Probably to go tell Homelander you’re not wearing that slut suit.
The room falls into an understanding silence for a few moments, until he tentatively reaches out and pulls the front zipper of your suit higher, “There. Let’s go down early before she comes back.”
A familiar smile appears on your face at his words, and you both make your way to the elevators.
You and Soldier Boy part ways to go to your dressing rooms, and once you get in there, your eyes widen at the sight.
The image Sage showed you paled in comparison to this abomination. The suit looked even skimpier in person.
“You’re wearing it.” Her voice rings from the corner of the room, and you jump.
“Say goodbye to your position in the Seven.”
“Really? You’d kick me out because of a fucking outfit?”
“I’m so sick of this bullshit.” You mumble, crossing the room and taking it off of the hanger.
Seemingly satisfied, Sage heads towards the door, pausing at the threshold, “Smile for the cameras. And for your sake, seem happy in your new outfit.”
You change into the outfit with resignation, pulling on the tight, uncomfortable lycra. The black does little to hide your silhouette, and everything to highlight your chest.
The matching black gloves and boots are just about the only cover you get. It’s worse than Starlight’s second suit, somehow.
Looking at yourself in the mirror, you could throw up. It’s nothing like you at all. It’s disgusting, and perverted.
A gentle knock on your door pulls you away from the brink of crying.
“Come in.” You call out, tearing your gaze away from the unrecognisable figure before your eyes.
Your expression lightens up when you see your makeup artist at the door, kit in hand. She’d been assigned to you since you joined the Seven a few months ago.
She was sweet, and every inch of the innocent girl you used to be.
Once the dark makeup look is complete, you rise from your chair and head to seek out Soldier Boy.
You don’t have to search far, because as soon as your hand closes around the door handle, you hear his voice outside.
The door opens, and you’re greeted with the familiar sight of his handsome face, his tamed beard, and those beautiful green eyes that you’ve started to fall for.
You’ve crushed on Soldier Boy for a while now. Of course, the close proximity, at Vought and at the safe house, helped, but you always used to fantasise over him as a teenager too.
I mean come on, he’s the epitome of sex appeal. Everyone knows it. He knows it.
Though his sexist remarks deterred you in the beginning, they just… stopped one day.
You always wondered why. You never thought the answer was you.
You were a badass to him. Everything a superhero should be—and what made it better was when he found out you also worked for Butcher.
That was the icing on the cake for him.
Morals were never his type of thing until he met you. He was still himself around you—always arrogant and teasing, but the bad side of him dampened.
No more rude comments, just flirty ones, and occasionally one with darkened humour. Nothing disrespectful anymore, though.
And you found his jokes to be funny. He found yours to be too. That’s where the lighthearted banter began.
The fans took it and ran. The two of you did too.
“What the fuck?” Soldier Boy blurts out, gesturing at the outfit.
“I know. Homelander said I’d be out of the Seven if I didn’t put it on.”
“Put your other suit back on.”
“Ben…” You lower your voice, careful not to be overheard, “I can’t. If I get kicked out, I won’t be able to help the crew as much. I won’t be able to protect you and Annie—”
“Put it back on. I’ll deal with Homelander myself. I bet Sage didn’t even tell him I ordered for you not to wear this shit.”
“Rolling in two minutes!” Someone shouted in the studio.
“Quick.” He ushered you back inside, coming in too. As soon as the door closed, he turned his back to you and locked the door.
Surprisingly, you managed to change quickly, and the two of you were sat on the comfy sofa in front of the cameras, facing Cameron.
The camera crew adjusted you both, linking your arm around Soldier Boy’s bicep, and leaning you against his side.
“3..2..1.. And we’re rolling.”
Cameron did his usual introduction, yapping on about random things nobody really cared about.
You zoned out, eyes scanning Soldier Boy’s side profile. He was really handsome. His facial hair complimented his face, making his eyes pop. His hair was carefully groomed, and smelt like something uniquely him.
“So, ___, tell me, how does it feel to work with Soldier Boy? Are there any struggles there?”
Cameron’s voice snaps you out of your analysis of Ben’s godly face, and you turn your eyes away towards the voice.
“I can’t say there are many struggles. He’s great, you know. Talented at what he does. The only thing I would say is it’s sometimes a little difficult to communicate ideas with each other, since we come from different time periods.”
“Could you elaborate on that a little?”
“Sorry, yeah. He’s still not up to date with the technology these days, or what the jargon I use is, since you know, he’s a fossil.” You joke, and Cameron laughs.
Soldier Boy turns his head to look at you, “Fossil? You’re pushing it today, doll.”
“Asshole.” He murmurs without any bite, just a small smirk on his face. He reaches out with his right hand and pats yours where it rests on his left arm.
“And Soldier Boy, how does it feel to work with ___?”
“Obviously there’s the communication problem, but other than that, there’s no faults for me. She’s great at her job. I’m lucky to have her beside me.”
An ‘aww’ ripples through the studio from the small audience.
Coleman laughs at the crowd response, before leaning in a little with a sly look in his eye, “Now, I’m sure as you’ve both heard, everyone has been calling you the new and improved ‘Bonnie & Clyde’. How do you both feel about that?”
Your breath catches a little at the question, but you play it off with a laugh and a smile. You turn your head to look at Soldier Boy.
He’s already looking right at you, darkened eyes flicking over your features.
“I think I’m a lucky man to be, now what’s the word… shipped, with her. I’m sure there’s plenty of men who’d wish to be in my position.”
You don’t reply, you don’t even hear him ask. You’re gazing at Ben’s face again, eyes slowly scraping over his lips, over his eyes again, his nose, his jawline, and to his lips again.
You suddenly come to your senses and freeze, realising you’ve been eyeing Ben up, and he’s been watching you do it. Live television has been watching you do it.
“What? Oh— Uh— yeah. I’d say the same thing.” You play it off with a smile, peeling your gaze away from his face.
But you don’t make it far. His right hand comes up to turn your face back to him.
“After this, you and I are going to have a little chat.”
You swallow nervously, “What?”
He runs a thumb over your bottom lip, “On interview ethics.” His voice is low, just so you can hear, “You can’t make me want to pin you down on this sofa and take you in front of everyone in the middle of an interview, can you?”
