Mazzy Star - Blue Light
I want to hold the hand inside you I want to take a breath that’s true I look to you and I see nothing I look to you to see the truth You live your life You go in shadows You’ll come apart and you’ll go blind Some kind of night into your darkness Colors your eyes with what’s not there. Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it’s strange you never knew A stranger’s light comes on slowly A stranger’s heart without a home You put your hands into your head And then smiles cover your heart Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it’s strange you never knew Fade into you Strange you never knew Fade into you I think it’s strange you never knew I think it’s strange you never knew

Song: Paper Doll / I’ll Be Around
Artist: The Mills Brothers
Record Label: Decca Records 18318
Recorded: February 18, 1942
Released: 1943
Location: Room 212 in the Sinclair Deluxe
You’ll encounter this song playing over the radio in Room 212 of the dilapidated Sinclair Deluxe in Pauper’s Drop. Blue Morpho butterflies gently rest their wings on the nearby walls next to their unfortunate brothers and sisters under glass.
Appropriately, the nearby audio diary, The Butterfly, explains the origins of the paper origami butterfly worn as badges by those faithful to The Rapture Family.
The Mills Brothers feature prominently in the BioShock 2 soundtrack. Originally composed of four actual brothers, they were often introduced as “Four Boys and a Guitar”.
True to their title, they were an entirely acapella save for one guitar. Using only their voices, each member could imitate tubas, trombones, and trumpets. Their tight harmonies and mastery of scat singing along with their instrument mimicry made them one of the earliest popular black quartets.
“I’ll Be Around” better demonstrates the instrument mimicry and was fairly popular. However, “Paper Doll” soared to the top of the Billboard singles chart for twelve weeks with 10 million copies sold and also immortalized in Scene Three of “A Streetcar Named Desire”.
Listen to the flip side “I’ll Be Around” here.

Some 80’s pop songs are hands down great.
