Why Your Spells Donât Work
You set your intention. You had all the correct correspondences. You even timed your spell with the appropriate moon phase. And yet â no results. What gives?Â
Failed spells happen to the best of us, and for a variety of reasons. But a spell gone wrong doesnât necessarily mean that magic isnât real or that youâre bad at witchcraft. Magic is complicated, and there are a lot of reasons it might not behave the way you want it to. Here are some of the most common causes of ineffective spells:Â
1. Lack of real-world follow through
Magic is meant to be used as a tool to supplement your mundane efforts â not as a substitute for them. How can you expect your job hunting spell to bring in results if you arenât applying for jobs?Â
Magic does not exist in a vacuum, and it canât make something out of nothing. If a spell doesnât bring you the desired result, make sure that your non-magical actions are aligned with what you are trying to manifest.Â
2. What youâre trying to manifest isnât a realistic possibility
Wait, what? Isnât magic supposed to be, well⊠magic? Shouldnât you be able to ask for whatever you want and get it? Yes and no.
Magic is simply a way of directing energy. Magic canât defy the natural laws of the universe. It canât make something happen unless it was already a potential possibility.
If your intention is unrealistic for where you are right now, try splitting it up into a multi-step process. No spell is going to make you a billionaire overnight, but magic could help you get hired at a better paying job⊠and then get promoted⊠and then get offered a profitable side gig⊠etc. Starting small and working your way up is always going to produce stronger results, because you laid the foundation first.
3. Your intention was either too vague or too specificÂ
Whether you use written petitions or spoken incantations, clearly stating your intention is an important part (maybe THE most important part) of any spell or ritual. A good intention is specific enough to get you the results you want, but open enough to let those results manifest naturally.
Letâs say you do a money spell, and your intention for the spell is simply, âI have more money.â If you find a penny on the ground the next day and pick it up, technically that is more money than you had before. A better alternative would be to use an intention like, âI have enough money to buy ___,â or âI have enough money for everything I need and want.â
Using an intention that is too specific creates the opposite problem. Letâs say you want to manifest a scholarship to a specific school. You do a candle spell with the intention, âI have been chosen for the John Smith Scholarship at Jane Doe University.â But maybe the John Smith scholarship had already been awarded by the time you did your spell. Maybe thereâs another scholarship at the same school that would be a better fit for you, or maybe youâre eligible for a grant that would make tuition more affordable. A better intention for your spell would be âI have enough financial aid to easily and affordably attend Jane Doe University.â
Magic always follows the path of least resistance, so you want to make sure that your intention is specific enough to give your magic a clear direction, but open enough to allow it some flexibility.Â
4. Lack of focus/concentration
We all know the struggle. Youâve been planning this ritual forever, and itâs finally the full moon, but youâve got a really full schedule today. If you hurry, you can probably squeeze it into the thirty minute window between school and work, right?Â
If you say a few quick words and burn some incense before you head out the door in the morning, that totally counts as a spell, right?Â
Not so much. Rushed, lazy, and/or half-assed spells rarely, if ever, work. Spells revolve around the raising and direction of energy, and that requires two things: a clear intention (see above) and intense focus on that intention. If you donât have the time/energy/mental capacity to focus, itâs best to take a break, have a self care day, and come back to your spell some other time.Â
5. Youâre subconsciously blocking your own results OR you did a spell for someone else who isnât open to it
I decided to lump these two together, because theyâre different variations of the same issue.Â
Whenever you are doing magic on yourself, itâs important that your mindset is aligned with your intentions. You can do love spells all day long, but if deep down you donât believe that youâre worthy of love, that belief is going to block your spells from working. This is why mindfulness, psychology, and self care are all such important parts of a successful witchcraft practice. Itâs also why I recommend doing the mental work before you sit down to ritual.Â
If you did a spell on yourself, or are trying to manifest something for yourself, and it just isnât working, I highly recommend setting some time aside for journaling and meditation and asking yourself 1.) if this is really what you want, and 2.) if you truly believe that you can have it.
The whole mindset thing gets even more tricky when youâre doing magic on behalf of another person, because their energy is also at work in the situation and could be at odds with yours. For example, if you do a spell to help a friend land a job, but that friend believes that theyâre totally underqualified and could never get it, they probably wonât get the job even if you did everything ârightâ in your spell.Â
This should go without saying, but it is extremely unethical to use magic to mess around in someone elseâs head. Even if you think you know whatâs best for them, they need to be open to it. If someone is blocking the spells you do on their behalf, all you can do is try to be supportive and find other ways to help them out.
Other (Rare) Reasons for Failed Spells
If a spell goes wrong, it will almost always be for one of the above reasons. But maybe you did everything ârightâ â you did the mental work first, had a strong, realistic intention, put lots of focus into your spell, and followed through in real life â and you still arenât seeing results. There are a couple of other things that could be blocking your spells, but theyâre very uncommon so Iâm not going to talk about them in as much detail. These may be things you want to look into if you really, genuinely canât think of any other cause.Â
Itâs possible that another witch has done magic that cancels out or blocks yours. This is not common, and it does NOT mean that someone has cursed you. It could be as simple as two witches unknowingly casting spells with opposite intentions, which end up cancelling each other out. (For example, maybe two different people both cast a spell to get the same job. Obviously, they canât both get that job.) This is why itâs never a bad idea to incorporate a protective element into your spells to block outside interference.
There is a very, very remote possibility that someone has placed a curse on you specifically to block your magic. However â and I cannot stress this enough â this is VERY uncommon. If you were cursed you would know it, or at least know that something was very wrong in your life. If you feel like you have been cursed or hexed, I recommend looking into uncrossing spells, which are specifically designed to undo negative magic.
Itâs also possible that a higher power is intervening. This doesnât necessarily have to be a deity, although it certainly could be. Most witches believe in some form of fate or destiny, and itâs possible that your spell didnât work because what you asked for is not in alignment with your destiny. In these situations, really the only thing you can do is surrender to the bigger picture.Â

đ»đProsperity Jarđđ»
What youâll need -
đA jar (I used a baby food jar)
đJewlery (I used earrings that had no pair!)
đDried Basil
đDried Mint
đGold or Silver Glitter
đČCoins (Gold coins, pennies etc.)
đA Green or Gold Candle
Optional: Four leaf clovers or anything else âluckyâ! đ. I added a citrine crystal since itâs known as the merchants stone.
Put everything in your spell jar, envisioning what you want as you do so. A chest of gold coins, money falling, beautiful jewelry, or maybe just your dream house. Anything that makes you think of the intent of money, luck and prosperity!
Once everythings in the jar, place your candle on top and light it (Or if itâs in a jar or tin, just pour the wax over the lid to seal it) As you see the wax drip down on to the jar say -
âLet my fortune grow. Let my luck flow.Bring me prosperity. Make it so.â
Recite this as many times as you wish while envisioning your future prospers. I wrote mine down and placed it inside the jar.
Either let the candle melt all the way down over the jar OR blow it out once the top is sealed (If you dripped the wax instead then just blow it out when covered)
Keep in a safe place or keep it near you whenever you need some luck, money or prosperity in your life.
đđžđGOOD LUCK!đđđ
Money Altars
A money altar is an altar dedicated specifically to money matters. You can have altar for any area of your life that you want or are prioritizing right now, for example many people have love altars if they are trying to attract new love or are looking to sustain a long term relationship. Since money is at the center of my life right now, stacking it, playing with it, spending it, earning it, Itâs a perfect time to share it with you here.
There is a lot of money spells out there and a lot of them work, but attracting more money into your life and living differently because of that money is about building a relationship with money.
Trusting money, loving money and knowing money loves you. People who donât trust money think that its always running out, it doesnât grow on trees, thereâs always more month than money, and that they canât rise into a new financial situation. Those kind of thoughts make it harder to attract and keep more money.
Building a money altar allows you to start a relationship with money. At my money altar I simply started with $5 and a white candle, and everyday (mostly) I would light the candle, and touch the money. I felt its energy and I visualized having more of it. Iâm currently building a new altar since I moved (pics to come).
Things you can add to a money altar:
Real money- $1, $5, $10, $20, $100, whatever you have and whatever makes you feel comfortable to start with. Not only does putting real money on the altar bring the energy it is an act of trust. Iâve been there where $5 is a lot of money to put on a table and not spend but it is crucial you put real money here.
Crystals- My favorite money stone is malachite but I also included rose quartz on my altar because for me money is tied to my self worth and rose quartz helps with it. You can use any money drawing stones (like a lodestone!)
A honey jar- If youâve made a honey jar for anything money related putting it on your money altar is a great idea! It will help keep it charged and bring more energy to the space.
Candles- Everybody knows I loveeee my candles so its a must for me. Flames add energy for me so having them there is crucial.
Money herbs- patchouli, cinnamon, bay leaves, all spice, orange peels, basil, any herbs that you would use for attracting money.
Things to do at a money altar:
Visualize- Visualization is huge part of my spell casting and life in general. If I can see it my mind then I can feel it in my body and then I can actually get my head around it and call it in. All my spells start by imagining it already done
Journal- Iâm a writer so words are important to me and can move me through a situation quickly. If iâm feeling freaked out about money or I donât know how Iâm gonna pay X instead of freaking out I write about it at the altar. Writing about it makes me feel better and releases those negative emotions and keeps me from constantly thinking âis this even working?â I tell clients this all the time, things come to you easier if you are detached and certain of the outcome.
Money spells/petitions- I do money spells, and write petitions for things I need at the altar. I ONLY do my own spells here. I have a little box or area I keep petitions in and trust that those issues are being handled.
Having a relationship with money is like having a relationship with anything else. Would you constantly question if your partner was gonna run out on you and leave you with nothing? (hopefully not) So the goal is to not do this with money. Building a relationship with money has been life changing for me, and while you can do this many ways, building an altar has really helped me. An altar is something that holds a lot of energy in one place so having a specific altar for money has solved issues and built my trust with money faster.
A reminder that I still have a spot left for mentoring. In mentoring we work on whatever it is you want to work on attracting into your life. New love, money, new job, a business, whatever it is, I am an expert on how to become a magnet for things you want and call them into your life. This is offer is NOT hoodoo specific and open to anyone of any background but if you do practice I will happily infuse that into our lessons. For more info DM me, this is a time sensitive offer.
I hope this helped yaâll, happy casting!
đŻïž Candle Magic đŻïž
Candle magic is one of my favorite type of ritual, because it is relatively simple to setup, and non-expensive. You just need a candle, and fire to light it up. If you want the spell to be even more powerful, feel free to carve symbols or sigils on the candle before lighting it. Then sit down, observe the flame, and think about a question that is worrying you.Â
â

Dear professor,
Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my assignment because Iâm my cat was sleeping on me so I couldnât get out of bed.
You are not broken.
Your past is not baggage.
You are not âtoo much.â
Society tells you that when you have fought and suffered through *SO* much, it makes you a burden, makes you unlovable.
You deserve the world. You deserve everything.
