It’s not the proposition itself that caught Blake off-guard. No, she’d had that challenge tossed her way more times than once with the latter never coming to fruition. She was used to putting the effort in for women she wanted to get to know better but that effort was doubled (if not more) with Mack as her competition. So Blake hesitated slightly, allowing the bitter taste of the liquor to settle in her mouth before swallowing and returning a smirk to match Mack’s. She was never one to turn down a challenge, after all.

“Sounds like a win-win to me,” Blake said in a sure tone, shrugging with her smile still firmly in place. Downing the rest of her drink, she pulled Mack closer and planted a kiss on her cheek with a laugh. Feeling the heat of Mack’s skin made her recognize the own blush emerging on her face from the drinks she’d drank so enthusiastically. “You’re hot, Darling,” Blake declared, releasing Mack from her embrace. “But not as hot as me. Let’s fucking do this.” 

“that’s my girl,” mack smirked easily, leaning into blake’s affection and even placing a kiss on her cheek proudly. if she was being honest, she didn’t entirely thing blake would be 100% down for a three-way, but mack was blunt and she it seemed like a good idea to her. besides, she was confident enough in their friendship that even suggesting it wouldn’t fuck them up. that was just how they worked. 

mack downed the rest of her drink quickly, but kept casual as she grabbed blake’s hand and led her through the crowd. she only dropped her best friend’s hand when they were about halfway, not wanting their girl to feel bombarded with the two of them coming up to her at once. 

“watch and learn.” mack mouthed to her friend, sending her a wink before making her way to the girl. she spoke briefly into the brunette’s ear, but her eyes were trained on blake a few feet away. soon enough, mack had her hands on the girl’s hips and they were dancing. her eyes met blake’s again and she quirked an eyebrow, basically inviting her best friend to join in.

she nods, before realizing that this was probably kind of a verbal only reply. “no, yeah, i’m good.” she manages a smile. “things have just felt weird lately, but i’m sure it’s just the rain.”

“did i tell you viv reached out to me a little while ago? wanted to do a video, or something.” 

“weird how?” mack leaned her head back a little bit, turning to look briefly at her sister. 

“she did, huh? and how do we feel about that?” typically, her sister wasn’t one to stand up for herself in any type of situation, so mack was always prepared to be the one to fight for mia.

that thought tickled quinn, settled in her stomach, grew butterflies. she watches her go, leading quinn to her own shower, and feels herself smile. and quinn follows her. 

she finds herself settling behind mack, hands resting carefully on her hips. just a position to have, thumbs running over skin, as she watched the steam slowly bellow up from the doors. and then her fingers are slipping up, pressing up mack’s shirt, an offer to help peel it off. not a demand. carefully, and gently, she does, when mack’s arms raise, and lets herself press a few kisses on the newly exposed skin. her fingers fold the fabric lightly, setting it on the counter in a tidy heap. 

it was rather confusing to mack, the way the older girl’s touches were somewhat calming the chaos in her mind. in some ways, the care that quinn touched her and undressed her with struggled to make her mind more chaotic, but still, her brain calmed some and she was able to look up at quinn and let out a breath. she didn’t look at quinn a lot when they were sober -- it was too serious, it meant too much. she knew she’d get stuck looking at the beautiful woman in front of her, which is exactly what happened in the few times she looked at quinn sober or not. 

they stepped into the shower, and mack continued to look at quinn. she took a chance and hesitantly wrapped her arms around her, her hands resting at the back of quinn’s neck. “i--” mack took a breath, rolling her eyes and giving quinn a tight-lipped smile. “nevermind. s’not important. shampoo?” her arms dropped and she reached behind the other woman to grab the bottle of shampoo.

                                  it’s a rush of nerves, to put yourself out there. lydia could turn on a faucet and EASILY fill herself with anxiety. the thought of putting yourself out there in any dating form induced such feelings. it was all uncontrollable, and embarrassingly awkward. - and she HATED feeling so out of her element. uncontrolled. the cafe owner couldn’t even digest the others faux reassurance. there was zero confidence boosting happening, and it wouldn’t even be believable. it was apparent how incredibly, PAINFULLY awkward she could be. 

                “   this is why i smoke.   ”   - to chill my self fucking down. - she didn’t want to spiral in hyperventilation. running out of town, and changing her identity may have sounded extravagant and dramatic to the situation, but in some twisted sense it seemed like the only move to make.  “  - or maybe i’ll just stay in the back for a solid week… and then maybe she will have such an interesting life that she’ll forget my face… or … you know.. if i lost her as a customer that doesn’t seem like the worst thing either right now… please, i know im awful at this.. but can you just please sedate me… or maybe feed me with some confidence … or wine. WINE is always good.   ” 

carson wanted to roll her eyes for no reason other than the fact that the woman was totally freaking out about what seemed like nothing, but she knew it wasn’t actually nothing to lydia. “okay, okay, you know what?” carson stood up, putting her hands out in front of her.

“then we’ll smoke. and drink. getting crossfaded is always the right answer to me.” she didn’t see any issue with that, though it might not have been the right answer at the moment for lydia, the girl definitely needed to chill the fuck out. “just. listen. you’re fine. everything’s fine. i don’t wanna say she’ll forget your face ‘cause it’s a pretty amazing face--” with a pretty fantastic embarrassing moment to go with it, “--but we will forget her face and forget this ever happened, okay? that’s why weed and alcohol exists, i promise. i fully believe we are about to let this shit fulfill its true purpose - to forget all this shit. good?”

whipped? she’d take that. it was unquestionably true. 

with a lazy motion, she reaches into her pocket, tugging out a few small, translucent squares packaged like candy. “i got some peach rings too. and a couple cookies. but these are supposed to be fuckin’ amazing.” 

“you should come by tomorrow. ryan threw in a couple grams for you. he’d probably get you something if you asked.” she doesn’t fully process the way her arm wraps back around brooke’s middle, tighter this time. because all those other thoughts — well, they were better processed when they were high out of their minds. not now, when she was too sober, and fully suppressing the slight anger at how the man had talked about brooke. was it just because it was gross? was it just because she wanted him to keep brooke’s name off his lips? or was it something more?

on that thought, dylan sat up, straddling one of brooke’s thighs and taking one of the packages off the bed beside them and tearing down the center, using her fingers to break the small gummy into two, and handing one to her best friend. “bottoms up, sweets.”

brooke let dylan tighten herself around her, loving the feel of her best friend so close. which didn’t surprise her - she always felt safe with dylan, even with everything going on in her life and just how unsafe she should be feeling. but with dylan? the blonde knew her best friend would literally move oceans to ensure she was safe.

her hands instinctively went to dylan’s hips as the girl straddled her, watching her tear the gummy in two and  hand one off to her. brooke kept her hands on dylan’s hips, leaning up to take the gummy from between the brunette’s fingers with her mouth. “mm, these are actually good,” brooke mumbled between bites.

“i mean, yeah, i’ll come by--” brooke deferred to what her best friend had mentioned before giving her the gummy. the nervousness in her voice wouldn’t have been evident to anyone else, but dylan knew her like no one else did. it made her nervous being anywhere but their apartment - she went out and got drunk or high but she always got as wasted as possible so she could forget how terrified she was to leave the house. but dylan’s work? she’d be with dylan, though she didn’t necessarily trust ryan (she didn’t trust anyone except for dylan), she knew she’d be safe. “when do you want me to swing by?”

“Feeling overwhelmed with emotions…” Jack grumbled, grabbing her motorcycle keys and her leather jacket. “Alright, c’mon. Where are we going? I’ll take ya on Lyla. Unless you don’t trust my baby.” She patted her motorcycle seat and smirked, crossing her arms. “You’ll have to hold onto me tight. A fair price for me going to get the shit scared out of me.”

“seriously?” carson’s eyes lit up at the mention of taking jack’s motorcycle. “not to be dramatic but i would give my life to lyla and trust her completely with it.” she told the other girl seriously, already moving to get on the back. carson gave jack an impatient look. “what’re you waiting for? c’mon, lemme squeeze ya.” patting the empty space in front of her as if it was her motorcycle, carson quickly pulled her hair into a ponytail and waited for jack to join her.

quinn, laughs hard enough to want to cover her mouth. “if that isn’t the truest thing that’s ever been said.”

“well, i was planning on tackling a few books. but i’ve obviously gotten a little sidetracked by a pretty girl.” she rests her chin on her propped up hand. “tell me about your podcast. new one. i’ve listened to the others.” 

“mm, wonder who you could be referring to,” carson smiled softly, running her fingers through her hair. “the one i just put up yesterday was about the vampire of sacramento. richard chase. he was one scary ass looking motherfucker, let me tell you.” she made a grossed out face. “called a vampire ‘cause he drank his victims’ blood. not sure why i haven’t done him before - i did richard ramirez awhile back, which was a fucked up dude, too.”

“that sounds fun.” mia said, shifting so her legs were under her, feeling a slight buzz in her head that probably had more to do with her coughing than the weed. 

“macky?” mia says after a second, reaching out to take her sister’s hand. “you know i love you, right?” she did this — a lot. she was the last person who would forget to say i love you, but it was still important. to mia, at least. especially now that it was just them. and maybe it had a little bit to do with the slight ache that’d started to form in her chest as of late. 

“it was not fun,” mack mumbled, thinking back to it. “you try being high as fuck in a forest thinking there are like, twenty-three other people out to kill you.”

once she heard her sister’s voice, she knew what was coming. she let mia take her hand, focusing on playing with the other girl’s fingers. mack was never good with stuff like that, but if she was good at it with anyone, it would be with mia. “love you, too, cheesy.” she murmured, eyes glancing over to study mia’s face. “you doin’ okay?”

quinn’s glancing through a few notifications, flicking a few to the side, forgotten. “well, i’m ahead on my classes, i don’t have any meetings, and i already have a beautiful girl in my bed, so at this point, i could just sleep all day and be very, very successful.” 

she sets down her phone, bringing her fingers up, gently tucking a few tangles she’d missed out of the way, using a stray hair tie to pull it into a messy ponytail. 

“but i think i might relocate to the living room. maybe have a shower.” 

she glances back to mack, her eyes flickering with something. “would you like to join me?” and before she can help it, there’s a soft hand on mack’s thigh. not in a suggestive way. just, soft circles, and a questioning look. quinn was french. she liked to touch. but she had a very clear bias about touching mack.

the touches that come from quinn have started to be instantly calming for the younger girl, and she could not for the life of her figure out why. they were soft, gentle, and she’s never really been touched like that before. it intrigued her, and mack told herself maybe that was the reason she liked being around quinn so much. 

“a shower.” mack mused, and for once, her mind didn’t go straight to the gutter. besides the fact that that’s just how she thinks, mack wasn’t sure how the hell anyone could see or feel quinn and not have their minds go somewhere. so, it was a little alarming that mack, who basically had a degree in flirting and one night stands and sex in general, just wanted to shower with quinn. a different kind of intimacy. quinn’s type of intimacy. 

after a few seconds, mack nodded. it couldn’t hurt, right? the younger girl pushed herself out of bed, stretching her arms above her head. “guess my hair’s gonna be smelling like yours.” she didn’t have any of her stuff here, obviously, but the idea of smelling like quinn for a little bit comforted her. as if she’d have quinn with her even when she wasn’t physically there. 

without waiting for the other woman, mack made her way to the bathroom, turning on the water to wait for it to get hot.

“you have the most fuckin’ amazing ideas.” dylan mumbled, feeling the extremely familiar rhythm of the blonde’s soft rise and fall under her. 

“you’re the only person i’ll watch documentaries with, b. hope you know that.” reluctantly, she moves off of the girl, letting her head fall onto the pillows, her arm still lazily draped across brooke’s waist. “i brought you some new edibles, we could fuck around with those if you want.”

“it’s ‘cause you’re whipped, duh.” in truth, they were both pretty whipped for each other, but brooke knew dylan was way more likely to give into something she wanted. the blonde moved as her friend did, both of them settling into the new position just as comfortably and easily as the last. “i only like to watch ‘em when i’m too high to move, anyway. otherwise they’re kinda boring.” 

at the mention of the edibles, brooke quirked an eyebrow at her friend. “you’re too good to me. what’d you get?”

“You have got to be kidding me.” Siofra was a notorious scary cat. Every halloween she was known to hide in her house away from any events no matter how many friends tried to drag her out. Catching the phone she gave it a brief glance over. “You have asked the wrong lady,”

carson pouted a bit. “i know but it’s kinda last minute and you’re here and this isn’t one of the ones i can do by myself ‘cause i gotta haul all my equipment.” she tried to reason with her, but ultimately knew siofra wouldn’t give. the younger girl was stubborn, though. “it’s not that bad. and i’ll buy you... i don’t know, something you like. frozen yogurt? ice cream? vodka?”

“I’m the one with the black belt! And even then, I don’t think you’d die. You’d be back in the sequel. To haunt me.” Jack pouted a little when Carson called her a pussy, sighing deeply. “Fine!” She wanted to open her mouth and tell her ‘just last week’ but she knew that the younger girl was feisty and would probably still get a good one or two hits in. Fuck. “Okay okay okay. We’ll go. But the second I see any shit start to float near me, I’m out.”

“you think having a black belt protects you against ghosts? i mean, maybe serial killers, but ghosts? nah.” carson smiled sweetly when she got what she wanted. as much as jack usually put up a little bit of a fight, she knew she count on her to be her partner in crime for the most part. “chill, okay? i’ve read about this place and it kinda just seems like it’s mostly hearing things and feeling overwhelmed with emotions. just don’t fucking cry on me, okay? you know i dunno how to handle people crying.”

“you have much else to do today other than being ogled?” there’s a kidding smile on her lips, as she pulls her hair up into a ponytail. “even though i’m sure it’s a full time job.”

“it’s more flattering when girls stare, ‘cause like, who really needs guys? guys will get a boner staring a shrub.”

carson shrugged. “while being ogled is one of my favorite hobbies, i was gonna do some research for my next podcast and edit a video, but i’ve been procrastinating, obviously.” she blew out a breath of air, leaning forward. “what about you, gorgeous?”

 “have you ever thought, that maybe it’s just true, and i have fantastic taste in women?”

she’s glancing away for a second, when mack speaks, but her words bring quinn back to her. and somehow it feels a little more like a win than most compliments, because she could tell how carefully curated the girl’s sarcasm was. and while quinn didn’t have a problem, her real voice was warm, like sugared tea. 

“well, thank you, darling.” her smile reaches her eyes as she leans over and presses a soft kiss to the shorter girl’s lips, letting her hand raise up and press softly against her cheek. fingertips play over tan skin for a moment, before she pulls back, reaching onto her bedside table for her phone. 

“you do have fantastic taste in women considering we keep ending up in bed together. props to your taste ‘cause i’m a hot catch.” it was kind of a routine for mack to be as obnoxiously cocky as she was, which was ironic considering she struggled to be that way around quinn.

the kiss caught her off guard, which by now, it really shouldn’t. quinn kissed her casually like that a lot when they were together, despite usually only falling into bed together. but the moments after, when they’re both still breathing heavily and the moment isn’t broken by mack’s commentary, quinn liked to kiss her. and mack liked kissing quinn. it was such a simple thing, but it was hard for mack to let it be that simple. 

“what’re you doing today?” it was mack’s way of asking when she should leave, or if she had already overstayed her welcome. she never wanted to leave quinn, which was weird in itself, but their lives weren’t intertwined and quinn could always be busy.

if litely could recognise anything, it was a stoner when she saw one. after all, she’d spent the last almost decade consistently in at least that state herself. the girl in front of her was lucky, really - being ignored wasn’t something she dealt particularly well with, so she was just about to snap her fingers in front of the vacant looking face in front of her to get some sort of response, when the girl spoke up all by herself. “it’s okay, i’m sure you’ll learn.” fake smile, obviously so, in place, she even went so far as to crinkle her nose at the other. 

“uh, no. i’m not five, so i don’t usually make it a habit to carry a sharpie around with me.” litely saw that the other girl had given her an opening to go around her, no matter how small. but she wasn’t going to take it; not yet, when this idiot was insulting her. backing down from a fight, no matter the kind, wasn’t something she did. “i’m gonna really go out on a limb here and assume you know how to spell - just make sure you make the ’b’ in bitch a capital.”

one thing was for sure - if she wasn’t already a little mellowed out because of her high, she probably would have already punched this chick in the face. she smiles a little at the thought, knowing it would be satisfactory but not wanting to bust her high just because. 

“you sure do lack a lot of manners for someone who’s sayin’ they’re not five years old.” honestly, mack was having a blast, and she found the situation hilarious. especially given it started because this girl was too impatient to walk behind her or too incompetent to move around her. “actually, i think capital letters are for something or someone important, no?” she shrugged casually. "i guess you could be important, considering you’re entitled enough to think you own the sidewalk. but i’m gonna go out on a limb here and assume you’re just a self-centered asshole. or i’ll just be nice and climb the whole damn tree to make room for your big ass ego to walk past me.”

“nope, nope, nope.” mia’s coughing, a lot, and she’s pretty sure her eyes are permanently crossed. she pushed the piece in her sister’s direction, her other hand going to her throat. “listen.” she starts, after her breathing evens out. “i just, want nice, fruity, gummies, and to kind of feel like i’m floating. that is, so much.”

mack couldn’t help the roll of her eyes. “such a pussy.” she mumbled, shaking her head but taking the small bowl back to take a hit of her own. “i mean, yeah, edibles are fuckin’ great, but you can also end up taking way too much ‘cause they taste way too good and then you wake up in the woods thinking you’re in the hunger games,” mack looked at her sister through half-lidded eyes. “may or may not be based on a true story.”
