Jacobs Wins Contract for Vales New Acid Plant in Canada
PASADENA, Calif., March 13, 2012 --/PRNewswire/ – Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. (NYSE:JEC) announced today it received a contract from Vale Canada Ltd. (Vale) to design and supply a new sulfuric acid plant for its Sudbury smelter in Ontario, Canada.
The acid plant contract, with an estimated value of $55 million, includes the design of the complete sulfuric acid plant contact section, as well as supply of all equipment and some materials. The plant features Jacobs' proprietary Chemetics® equipment throughout, including stainless steel converter (with internal exchanger), radial flow gas-gas exchangers, acid coolers and SARAMET®distributors and piping. The bulk of the proprietary equipment is expected to be fabricated at Jacobs' facility in Pickering, Ontario.
The new acid plant is part of Vale's Clean Atmospheric Emissions Reduction (AER) Project. The overall AER Project is designed to cut sulfur dioxide emissions at the Sudbury site by more than 70 percent from current levels. Vale considers the Clean AER Project to be the most significant environmental investment ever contemplated in the Sudbury Basin.
Jacobs Group Vice President Andy Kremer stated, "We are very pleased that Vale has selected our technology for this important project, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Vale."
This is the second major project for Jacobs' at the site; it was awarded a contract to modernize the existing acid plant in 2002. In addition, it has had numerous orders for proprietary equipment since the original acid plant was built in the 90s.
Jacobs is one of the world's largest and most diverse providers of technical, professional, and construction services.

MONTREAL – Ontario has picked a consortium led by SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. as the preferred bidder for its $1-billion extension of Toronto toll road Highway 407, according to two separate trade publications specialized in infrastructure investments.
Ontario chose the 407 East Development Group to extend the roadway, U.K.-based business intelligence publications Project Finance and Inframation Group said Friday. The group includes Cintra Infraestructuras SA, Intoll Group and SNC-Lavalin, which together own the existing 407 ETR under a 99-year exclusive concession and lands lease from the Ontario government.
Ontario is maintaining ownership and operation of the toll road extension, retaining all revenues generated. Three groups were short-listed for a contract to design, build, finance and maintain phase one of the new highway extension.
Paulette den Elzen, an official with Infrastructure Ontario, said Friday that the contract award process is still ongoing. "We are having discussions with the first-ranked bidder but we've not completed negotiations so we cannot declare a preferred bidder," she said.....

Video: Man excavates his basement using only R/C models.
It took seven years for Joe Murray to excavate the basement of his home in Saskatchewan Canada using only radio controlled vehicles. Using r/c drills, excavators, haulers, and trucks, the strange technique meant he never even had to get his hands dirty.
Each Winter he mines the walls of his unfinished basement and then hauls the dirt out each summer. He once had a conveyor belt, but now uses a spiral ramp for removal. Murray estimates that he has excavated about 2 to 3 cubic yards of dirt every year for the past seven years. The motivation behind the project is fairly simple: Murray like R/C, and he likes working in his basement over long cold Saskatchewan Winters. He first got interested in the craft back in 1996, and is now modifying and repairing his own vehicles
