Hiatus End
Commitment || Chase&Gray
geode-x-dude
“Hm, me neither.” Gray should have known going into their living arrangement that it’d be much like their college days, sharing a bed or the floor or the couch whenever sleep was necessary. “Relaxing does sound nice, though. I approve of the evening plans.”
He felt a shiver run up his spine as Chase’s hands find the skin under his shirt, the feeling of it more than pleasant. “A hundred percent, huh? You sure you know what you’re asking for? I can be plenty annoying if I really try.” There’s a playful smirk on his lips that can’t quite be seen due to the position of Gray’s head. He leaned back and placed a kiss on the tip of Chase’s nose.
“We’re cuddling in my bed, though. Mine’s cozier. Sorry.” He chuckled and planted another smooch, this time on Chase’s lips. He lingered for a bit longer than he normally did, allowing the kiss to melt some of his nerves. It was slightly selfish, but not entirely. When he pulled back again, he nodded his head to the oven. “How much longer until the cookies are done?”
You sure you know what you’re asking for?
Chase is never sure of what he’s asking for, but he’s sure about him. He’s never been more sure of someone in his life.
“I knew what I was getting into when I agreed to be yours.”
That kiss to his nose makes his heart flutter, as simple things tend to do. There’s a way Gray looks at him that makes his abdomen feel funny, that makes his heart feel like launching up into his throat, but it’s a nice feeling. Like the first kiss, drunk on his college bed, excited and nervous, but oh so good.
It doesn’t help that Gray has that second kiss linger. Chase is so selfish and coveting of him, he wants to melt in his arms and stay there, fawning over his handsome face and pining over his lips and his eyes and his nose. He adores him. Love is not a strong enough word to describe what he feels when Gray sneaks even the briefest of glimpses.
Just as he takes his face in his hands, prepared to go shutting him up with his tongue in his mouth, the oven behind him beeps. Chase’s shoulders slump visibly, as if he was unprepared, saddened by the fact that he can’t just sprawl him out over the counter and take him how he sees fit-- even if one of his favourite foods is ready just for him.
“Looks like you were right on time,” he murmurs as he draws away, turning to throw on some oven mitts and retrieve his cookies from the heat. The smell of oranges fills the room, and he can’t picture a better moment than this one, at peace with himself for the first time in a long time. “Be careful. They’re hot. Don’t burn yourself.”
White Day | Chase & Gray
geode-x-dude
A pleased hum rumbled out of Gray’s chest as Chase found a comfortable position sitting/laying on top of him. Immediately, Gray’s rough and worn hands find a place to rest at Chase’s hips, thumbs rubbing gently against the fabric of Chase’s shirt.
“Whatever it is, be careful what you wish for.” He chuckled and leaned up to press a soft kiss to Chase’s lips before planting a few more along his chin and jaw, hardly making any sound with how gentle they were. He continued to pepper Chase with soft kisses as he awaited Chase’s request, whatever it may be.
It’s little things like those that make Chase fall in love all over again. Even as small as the gesture is, it feels like it hits him from the side like a freight train, incapable of preparing himself for impact every single time. This must be what it means to have a soulmate.
His eyes fall closed as soft kisses grace his face, resisting the urge to turn his face and kiss him a thousand times over for good measure. If he could keep some of those kisses in a box for later, he’d do it without hesitation. It’s a shame every moment can’t be just like this, wrapped up in his affection, drowning in his touches.
That was just what he wanted. How did Gray know?
“I want to eat you alive.”
He hums a soft noise, caressing his shoulders, his neck, his face. How selfish of him, always wanting to be closer and closer... it’ll never be enough. He doesn’t just want the appetizer, he wants the whole fucking buffet.
“I think you’d taste great with lemon.”
⋈ What was the last thing you lied about? Why did you lie?
It flashes across his mind like a theater screen transitioning images. An afternoon eating supper with Gray on the couch, documentaries about sharks playing on in the background. Talking about a girl who lives next door, with a crush on his metalworking friend; Chase teasing him over making a move.
Are you alright?
Yeah, I’m fine.
“I can’t remember.”
♤ If you could change one thing about your personality, what would it be?
Just one thing? Chase could make a list with all his less-than-desirable traits. The insecurity, depression, self-invalidation, secret keeping, less-than-laidback attitude, how unsure he is about his direction in life, insistence that he can never be truly loved for what and who he is…
“Everything. I hate myself.”
❧ Would your younger self be pleased with who you are right now?
“… I don’t know.”
A question he doesn’t have an answer for. He didn’t really have a childhood, what with the misplaced anger and sadness invading every aspect of life, but perhaps he’d be happy to know there’s some joy in where he is now. He wouldn’t be happy that it’s with a boy, but…
“Maybe.”
He’s not exactly heralded as a world-class chef yet, but he’ll get there. He has time.

♚ What is a habit that you don’t want people to know you have?
Oh, God, the automatic physical response to being overstimulated-- too happy, too sad, too angry, too tired. The crying. If he could will those tears back inside his face, he absolutely would.
“... I can’t tell you that. I don’t like talking about it.”
Or maybe the fact that he feels things so deeply in the first place. If there’s one good thing that came from it, it’s knowing that he’s painfully in love every time he hears Gray’s voice in his darkest moments.
“... I can’t sleep, sometimes, so I’ll kiss Gray’s neck until I get tired.”

White Day | Chase & Gray
geode-x-dude
“Of course I’d make time for you.” Gray said it matter-of-factly, as though the action is obvious. Any other action, not taking time out of his day to spend it with Chase, was ridiculous. It had always been something that Gray did, even back when the two of them were in college on the mainland. Gray enjoyed spending his time with Chase, whether it was casually eating or conversing and enjoying a movie on the couch. No matter what they did, Gray had a good time with Chase.
By the end of their meal, Gray had shifted to lay flat on his back on the floor, his hands folded over his stomach as he sighed contentedly. “Ah, that was good…” He turned his head to look at Chase with genuine smile. “Thanks, again. You did great, like always.”
Chase could roll around in his own satisfaction, appeased by the compliments he never gets tired of hearing, but he’s a little too preoccupied. Most particularly with looking at Gray like he’s the main course of the afternoon, lingering a while on that smile of his.
“Like always,” Chase stresses, but there’s a genuine smile playing at his own lips.
Crawling over on his hands and knees, he has no qualms about finding a spot straddling his lower waist for a moment. Hands on his chest, creeping up over his shoulders, his fingers rub out tension in his ligaments he knows is a product of working with his upper body.
“You did good going through it all.” He winks, playful and unabashed. “Now what do I want, I wonder. Hmm.”

Gray chuckled, his lips still pressed to the crown of Chase’s head. His lover’s soft hair tickled his nose, but Gray didn’t mind. Chase smelled like oranges practically 24/7, so it wasn’t like he was unpleasant to hold. If anything, Gray wished he had his arms around the chef all of the time. Though, it was unlikely that he’d ever voice that desire aloud.
The kisses along Gray’s jaw drew out a pleased hum from the slightly-taller male. “You say ‘your room’ like you don’t stay in there, too. What’d I even prepare a separate room for, anyways?” His voice is thick with sarcasm and it’d be easy for Chase to feel the smile on Gray’s lips against his forehead.
“I don’t mind relaxing. I won’t be reading, though.”
Chase didn’t expect him to read. Gray was never the reading type, which was more than evident over stressful nights cramming for tests and exams, though even despite it Chase can’t help but roll his eyes. There’s a slight smile quirking up over one corner of his mouth, hidden by his best friend’s chest where his head rests comfortably.
“I, personally, don’t know why you even bothered.”
Maybe Gray was expecting him to use it more often at one point, or maybe he wasn’t. He feels his curiosity pique over the question, whether Gray was anticipating late nights crawled into his bed or a divide between one bedroom and the next.
Maybe it’s better not to ask. Maybe it’s better not to think about it too much.
“I don’t mind relaxing. It would be nice to have 100% of you, even for an evening.”
Spending time together is nice, perhaps the nicest thing he can think of, but there’s an acute difference between watching movies together and giving him his complete and utter attention. Chase makes that apparent when he slips one of his hands up Gray’s shirt, roaming freely over his frame as he feels him up pretty apparently.
“Reading aside, I mean.”

The heat of the oven could already be felt in the room, and having just come from a hot shower, the warmth is slightly uncomfortable. Plus, Gray was already beginning to get nervous again. A slight sweat was forming on the back of his neck and Gray did his best to ignore it.
“When aren’t you thinking about oranges?” Gray chuckled and, in a rare moment where Gray feels bold enough, he pressed himself up against Chase and leaned down for a kiss, a quick peck, but it’s a kiss nonetheless. Perhaps he was just feeling extra affectionate, considering what he was about to do in a bit. “Did you snack on the oranges?” He could taste a hint of it on Chase’s lips. Gray rubbed his hands along Chase’s sides, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “So we’re really having dessert for dinner? Not that I’m complaining, really.”
Chase rolled his eyes hard, but he can’t come up with a good comeback in the time-span he’s allotted. It’s true, he’s often thinking about oranges, but it’s not his fault the sweet summer fruit is just that addictive. Maybe it’s a psychological thing.
Just as he anticipates being sized up, the distance closed between them as Gray draws near, Chase is almost taken aback by the unsolicited kiss he leaves behind on his lips. It’s one of those rare occasions where his best friend initiates, and he can’t help but wonder what’s put him in such a loving mood this afternoon.
“Maybe.” That maybe is a yes, he has been snacking on oranges. It’s hard not to eat a slice or several when it’s right in front of him. Just as it does when Gray touches him affectionately, his impulse control goes straight down the drain. “You’re not allowed to complain about my food. It’s illegal.”
Hands rove up his sides, and Chase can’t help but exhale one of the happiest sighs he’s made in a while. He’ll never get enough of those comforting touches, his own arms winding around Gray’s waist, pulling him into one of those affectionate embraces. He can’t exactly reach his mouth from down there, but he can kiss up his jawline like the attention slut he is.
“Maybe I’ll read in your room for a while after dinner tonight. If you felt like relaxing with me.” Like he’d be getting any reading done with Gray’s lips looking like they need kisses.
