at the end of the day. there's something very tender about mark meeting this boy who's a little quiet and doesn't get along with people very well for a lack of being around others but is so clearly good and deciding he's going to be a star. he just needs a little looking after, is all.

oscar just needs someone to believe in him unconditionally and tell him that he's the best when he feels like he isn't and fight for him so that he knows he's worth keeping.

mark knows oscar is going to be better than he ever was and he won't damage the kid's reputation by making him the legacy of a has-been old man but it's nice to think about, sometimes—that his name might be attached to a star, to a boy who's going to be world champion and win it all.
