#12 So it's been a while since I last posted but I feel like this one needs to be said. Moms are seriously the best. Mine especially (everyone probably believes that their mom is pretty cool too). My mom was diagnosed last year with stage 3 colon cancer and underwent chemo for 6 months. And for the past 6 months it has been a battle. I have thought and prayed a lot on what life would be like without my mom just because I knew what the future "could" be like if she were to have passed away. But by the grace of God, and by her amazing strength, she has overcome one of the hardest obstacles she has faced in her life. A few weeks ago she went to get a CAT scan to see if her blood cells were up to par and THEY WERE! Praise the Lord! My mom is such an amazing, inspiring, beautiful, talented, and ARTSY woman. I mean look at this picture of her! I just wanted to take the time to acknowledge her and remind everyone to tell their mother how incredibly thankful they are for going through hell and back for them. No matter what your relationship looks like with your mom, SHE gave birth to you, SHE loves you for who you are. And it is because of God's great and unending love that you are still alive and well. Without her, you would not be here. So shoot her a text, or give her a call and tell her that you love her. She may not be here tomorrow (you might not either).

This song was written about my grandmother (Mamie) in the point of view of my grandfather (Pappaw). I finished it the day that she died and got the privilege to play it for my Pappaw. Coincidentally I drew his name to give him a Christmas present this year so I recorded this song last night with the help of my good friend Andrew Rippy. I'm going to give my Pappaw a CD with the song on it for Christmas. Go ahead and give it a listen and let me know what you think!

It's Christmas Time Folks! I know a lot of my posts have been about being thankful, but this is-in my eyes-the most important time of the year to be thankful.

I had the privilege last night to hear a good friend of mine talk about God's "gift" to all of us here on earth.  He explained that a "gift" is something that is given to you.  There are no strings attached, you didn't do anything to earn the gift, it is just given to you.  Pretty self explanatory.  But then he went on to say that just like during Christmas time when gifts are given to you, and you have the choice to open it or not (which you would be crazy if you just left a present that was obviously for you under the tree and never opened it) you also have the choice to receive God's gift.  That gift is eternal life.  He gave his son Jesus to the earth and all of its evil, flawed, and sinful ways so that we could experience his never ending love and grace.  

You see, we have the choice to live this life trying our best to make ourselves happy with money, with a beautiful family, intelligence, success, love, and excitement OR we can give all of that worthless anxiety up to God and ask Him to just take the reins, and live a life trusting that he has a better plan.  And trust me, He does.  His plan is WAY better than any of ours.  The reason I know that is true is because our plans never go according to plan.  But His does.  

I hope you enjoy your holidays and I hope you get to experience the never ending love from Jesus Christ.  Because that is the best love anyone could ever ask for.  Hug your friends and your family, tell them you love them and are thankful for them.  But don't forget who's you are.

It’s Thanksgiving Eve and the only friend that is left in Norman with me is one of my roommates who is from Michigan. Steve and I decided to go tear up some fun lines and I snapped this cool shot at the parking garage on campus.

I’m thankful for my family, for their health and their love for the Lord. But right now, at this moment, I’m thankful for friends like Steve who will drop everything and spend time cruising and listening to good vibe music with me.

This post is to remind you to be thankful and to thank your friends and family for being by your side during this crazy thing that we call “life”. Be thankful. Give thanks. And accept it. ✌️

Dealing with stressful or frustrating situations is hard for me.  I try to find the good in all situations, and I try to be optimistic.  But sometimes it just seems impossible.  I posted this picture on my tapiture because it reminded me to look at life, and its situations from different angles, and perspectives. I was told by my sociology professor a few years ago that "to be a good citizen, you must take off the glasses that you were born with, and view the world with different lenses".  This picture encourages me to refocus my life when it becomes blurry, and to just climb up on top of a giant rock, and try and see something in a way that nobody else has seen it before.

Sometimes I rush too much.  I expect things to happen just as I hope they will and when they will.  The fact of the matter is, I have no control over what happens in my future.  My life is already planned out for me!  What a great feeling!  I don't have to worry, or plan anything out.  God has complete control over my life and all I need to do is pay attention.

Sure, I have plans for myself, and there are definitely things that I want to do, but my point is this:  I might have a dream for my future, or I might have a life goal, but Christ has already made the stepping stones for me to travel down.  So I need to be patient in getting to where I am going and I need to try and enjoy the ride as well.  Because this life is SHORT.  And every experience counts as a step towards peace.

Counting My Blessings

This morning as I headed to work around 6:15, I saw a sign on the side of the road that read "Count Your Blessings" and it made me take a few minutes to think outside, in the cold, surrounded by God's beautiful creation of all of the amazing things that I am blessed with.  

I am blessed with:

1. A Father in Heaven who loves me for who I am, not what I do.

2. A mother, a father, stepfather, and brothers who know who I am, who are active in my life, and who constantly support me in life.

3. Friends that make me laugh, listen to my heartaches, and point me in the right direction when I find it hard to focus on what truly matters in life. 

There are many other things that I am thankful for but these are the greatest.  I have more than I need to live, I take advantage of too many simple things in life and don't give enough thanks to the King who gave it all to me.  So today, I hope to encourage all of you to think of those who are important in your life, think of all of the little things that you have, and give thanks for them.

I know it isn't thanksgiving, but that doesn't mean that we cannot appreciate those things and tell the people who we love that we are thankful for them and what they have given and continually give for us to survive and feel loved.

This is Matty, my best friend.  We go to work together every morning, we both hate cats, and occasionally we like to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee together. 

I picked her up off of the side of the road when I was a junior in high school.  As I held her tightly in my arms, I crept into my bedroom and closed the door (thinking that I could hide a dog from my parents).  Now, at that time, my family already had a dog.  His name was Gus.  The next morning, I woke up only to find that Matty was not next to me and my bedroom door was open.  Anxiously, I inched my way down the hall to the kitchen where I could hear my parents talking about the new friend that I had brought home the night before.

My parents sat me down and explained to me that I could not keep her because we didn’t have any room for another dog.  However, being the stubborn teen that I was, I insisted that they let me keep her.  After much deliberation, we decided that I would print out LOST posters all around McKinney and if after 2 weeks nobody had called about her, I could keep Matty.

I did what I had to do.  I printed the posters out, and kept them in my truck for 2 weeks!  I’m sorry!  I couldn’t get rid of her!  I mean come on…look at that kind, loving, and innocent pup right?  Anyways, the reason I am writing about her is because even through some of the hardest times of my life, when I was lonely, stressed, bored, or hurt, Matty can always make me smile.

Hey guys! My name is Anson Wilson, I am 21 years of age and am from McKinney, Texas. I currently reside in Norman, Oklahoma where I am studying at the University of Oklahoma. This blog is mainly just a “scrapbook” about my life and what I experience/learn. I don’t post every day but when I do, it’s real. Enjoy!
