Disintegration
The Cure got through what killed a lot of other groups, in many senses of the word. It’s only because of what exists between Simon and me that the whole thing held together.

Intimacy With Boys
Interviewer: Have you ever had homosexual urges?
Robert: No. Well, not in a physical sense... I like the company of male friends, we can hug each other without feeling any embarrassment, but I couldn’t sleep with a boy. In the early days of the Cure, when we went on tour, we had to share rooms, but those were my only moments of intimacy with boys.

Interviewer: Have you ever had a homosexual affair?
Robert: No I haven’t. I’ve never been attracted to a boy — not enough to have an affair.

So he has been attracted to guys, just “not enough” to actually have an affair/intercourse (or so he says...).

Interviewer: What instrument do you play in the band?
Simon: Glockenspiel. And Jew’s harp as well.

“A Night Like This” is at least ten years old. The Cure was still in its early days, and me and Simon had another group that we used to get rid of all our influences by imitating a number of them. I don’t remember the name of the group, but we were already playing that song back then. I rediscovered it recently and we recorded it. It was originally supposed to sound like “A Song For Europe”.

Robert smells of vanilla. It’s true. Janie once was in a room with the Cure and myself, and she said, “I can smell Play-Doh.” And Play-Doh smells of vanilla. And it was Robert’s perfume at the time. I think it was a Body Shop one, or it might’ve been Boots.

Vegetarian
Interviewer: Are you a vegetarian?
Robert: I used to be.
Interviewer: When did you stop?
Robert: The day Morrissey released Meat Is Murder. I then treated myself to a superb steak and chips. And it was fucking delicious!

I couldn’t think of anyone more wholesome than me. I’m the sort of person you could give to your niece for Christmas. Cuddly.
