Summary: After you've been trying and failing to get Law's attention through subtle means, Robin and Nami realize they have to step in to give him a little push.
You were a traveling doctor that ran into Law from time to time when your paths just so happened to cross. At first he thought you were stupid. You risked your life to save strangers without expecting anything in return. You traveled randomly from island to island helping heal people as you went and relying on the kindness of strangers in return.
He tried to warn you in the past about your life choices. He told you putting your trust in the wrong people was an easy way to get yourself killed, but you never let his pessimism sway you. Instead you would joke about it every time you met him again. And every time he saw you again he felt a little relieved.
Still he finds himself surprised when he sees you on the deck of the Strawhat crew's ship. But in a way it does make sense. Their captain was the only person he met that was more gullible and trusting than you.
“So I see you haven't gotten yourself killed yet.” Law greeted you with his usual calm tone, but you still tell there was a smile peeking through somewhere on his face.
“I try not to.” You joked back. “So what are you doing here?”
“I got business with their captain.”
“Does that mean you're gonna stay with us till the next island?”
He let out a sigh, “Maybe. Why are you here? Don't tell me you're a pirate now.”
“No. Just staying indefinitely. Figure I could help people while they run around making chaos.”
He didn't like the sound of that. You run around on dangerous islands on your own. Official crew members or not, any enemy of theirs might see you as an associate now. Someone to target.
“That's a stupid plan.” He chided.
“Well. It's nice to have somewhere more permanent to stay.” you explained. “But I'll let you go now. I know you're busy.”
You don't talk to Law much after that over the next few days, but you still appreciate just having him around.
You find Nami and Robin towards the back of the ship, enjoying the fresh air as they sat and talked. It was not often Nami wasn't wrapped up in some type of navigational task, so you couldn't miss the opportunity to talk with the two of them while they were together.
“Hi there (y/n).” Robin greeted you with a smile upon noticing you approach. Nami turned her attention towards you as well and smiled, but it wasn't a normal friendly smile like Robin's. No, her smile held something sinister.
Robin chuckled upon noticing her expression and took the bait, “What did you have in mind, Nami?”
Nami grinned with a mischievous glinting in her eye, “I don’t know. I am just curious why our normally broody doctor suddenly seems more relaxed lately. It's almost like someone’s been softening him up.”
Now both of them are staring at you. Robin smiled as she waited for a satisfying answer from you. The question caught you off guard.
"What? No you got it all wrong. It's not like he treats me differently from anyone else.”
Unfortunately Nami seemed to be prepared for this reaction. She pulled out a notebook and cleared her throat before going over it. “Exhibit A! No matter what he's doing he always looks up when you walk in deck.”
“He's just vigilant.” you denied the suggestion.
Nami hands Robin the notebook for her to read the next one. “Exhibit B. He once talked with you for five minutes. The longest recorded conversation he ever willingly had with any of our crew members.”
“That's just because you guys all try to make him talk. He's like a cat. If you're too aggressive you'll just scare him away. I just leave him be.”
“Uh-huh.” Nami teased you with a smug smile. “Exhibit C. Yesterday, when you got hit by that wave and your jacket was soaked he offered you his.”
“That was just…..” you tried to make an excuse but your mind came back blank.
Nami grinned as you reached the end of your rope. “See! He totally likes you! Come on admit it! Now you can tell him and stop driving me up the wall!”
“Fine. Let's say I do like him.” You felt your cheeks heat up at even suggesting the possibility, “I'd just scare him away.”
“You're right. You can't be too direct with someone like Law.” Robin agreed. “Law would probably react better to something more genuine that lets him know you care.”
“But if it's too subtle he'll just brush it off.” Nami reasoned. “That boy's still too dense to understand emotions.”
While you wanted to be straight up with him, you knew Law was not the type to take a confession at face value. Knowing him he'd overthink it or rationalize it out of existence.
“We already know that he likes you. You just have to make him realize that.” Nami pressed.
“Ok. I'll figure something out. Thank you guys for talking to me.”
Over the next few days you try to get his attention. You straighten up his work space when he's too busy to clean because you know he values a tidy space. You finished up any medical paperwork he left out. You'd make him Onigiri and leave it on his desk when you noticed he skipped a meal. Despite performing all of these over the top gestures for him, he still brushed it off as nothing more than you being a good crewmate to him.
In his eyes that's just the type of person you were. Kind, caring, helpful. He never noticed that he was the only person you treated to this extent. He never allowed himself to look for any deeper meaning in your actions.
Nami and Robin quickly realized they had to step in. If Law couldn't realize he likes you then they'd just have to make him. They figured if they scared him into thinking you were in trouble, he'd realize how much he cares about you. Was it a little manipulative? Yes. But the subtle route you were determined to take was failing horribly.
"(y/n)!" Robin ran up to you and handed you a transponder snail. It was rare to see her worked up into a state of distress. "Nami is in trouble on the island. I'll get the others and we'll meet you there.”
“What? But this island is supposed to be empty. Why is she even there?” you arrived at a small deserted jungle island this morning, if you could even call it an island. It was too small to build anything meaningful on it. The only reason your ship was even docked outside it was because Franky had some concerns about the ship needing emergency repairs and wanted an hour or two to look the whole thing over.
“She just wanted to go for a walk. Stretch her legs but we were wrong this island–”
The transponder snail suddenly came to life with the sound of Nami’s voice, muffled and panicked like she was struggling.
“Someone help! I am trapped! They have weapons and someone please just get your butt over here!” She sounded desperate and scared.
“Get going. I'll tell the others and we'll be right behind you. We can't waste any time.”
You nodded along, “Right. I'll keep in touch once I am on land.”
Grabbing your sword, you jumped into a dinghy and made your way to the shore. You cut your way through the jungle foliage, following a set of Nami's footprints until they disappeared into the brush. You felt anxious and nervous, not knowing what enemy you were facing out there.
You fumbled to activate the transponder snail. “Robin! I made it but I lost track of her.”
“(y/n)?” It was Law not Robin who replied. He sounded equally and surprised and confused to hear you on the other end.
"Law?"
"What's going on?"
"It's Nami. I was told she needed help on the island and moved in.”
The line goes quiet for a moment. The dangerous type that means he's thinking over what to do.
“You're alone?” you couldn't tell if he sounded upset or worried. The way he questioned you was so flat and emotionless you could have inserted anything meaning you wanted into it.
“Yeah.” For some reason you felt nervous to admit that to him. Suddenly you felt stupid rushing in as you did.
“Where exactly are you?”
“I am not sure. I hear a stream not that far–”
“Don't. Move.” This time you heard the emotion in his voice. It was commanding and serious, daring you to oppose his words.
He yelled your name into the snail transponder. His over active mind raced with a million thoughts of what could have happened to you, none of them being good. He cursed under his breath when he realized he was getting no where with the snail.
Without a word he stormed out from his quarters and used his ability to teleport himself down to the island. He was so focused he did not even notice the way Robin was watching him leave with an amused grin on her face. Their plan was working.
“Where the hell are you dammit?” He mumbled to himself, trying to ignore the knot of worry in his stomach. He was just looking out for a crew mate who stupidly wandered off nothing more. He found your tracks along with the fake ones Nami placed.
He followed them until they ended, just as you had done, then followed the trail of broken foliage you left behind. His heart aches with worry once again. What if you really were in trouble? Were there bandits here? Wild animals? Sure you had your sword but you weren't exactly a trained fighter.
Soon he found himself calling out for you, despite his mind telling him it was a stupid way to give away his position to whatever else was out there. He had to get to you as soon as possible. Had to see you were ok.
“(y/n)!” no response. “(y/n)? Where are you? Can you hear me?”
He ignored the way he felt like he could breathe again the moment he heard you respond. He rushed towards your voice, tearing through anything that blocked his path.
He took a moment to catch his breath. “You're ok? Thank God you're ok.” He looked you over for any injuries. Held onto your shoulders firmly before having you spin around despite your insistent protest that you were fine. Nothing happened.
“Then why were you out here?” He questioned seriously.
"Robin told me Nami was here and--"
"Nami is on the ship." He informed you. Then he paused in thought. Why didn't he realize that earlier? You told him on the snail. How did he glance over that important information? It was like all he heard was that you were here alone.
"What? But Robin told me Nami was in trouble and–"
"Are you always this trusting?" He questioned you.
"Nami was screaming over the transponder. I didn't think to question it.”
“So they set you up?” He let go of you, arms now crossed, his face scrunched up in thought.
For some reason seeing him in such distress made you feel the need to hug him and gave into it. "I am sorry."
Law is taken aback by your unexpected action. His body tensing for a moment before he melts into it. "You have nothing to apologize for. It's not your fault.”
He wraps his arms around you, pulling you closer in a moment of need. It was like he was confirming you were safe in his arms.
“I was worried sick. I thought something happened to you.” Then he jolts up as if suddenly realizing what he's saying. What he's doing. He quickly lets go of you. "We should get back to the Sunny."
He barely sleeps for the rest of the night. Over analyzing the moment of having you in his arms. Trying to figure out what could have possibly caused his reaction to be so instinctual. The only answer he could think up that made sense was the one he has been trying to avoid since he met you. He liked you.
By morning you decide to do him a favor and make him a cup for coffee just the way he likes it. You find Law at the usual spot at sunrise. You approached him cautiously.
"For you. As a sorry for....everything.” Law glanced up at you from under his hat.
“Thanks.” He carefully takes the mug from your hand and takes a sip before leaning back on the railing. “You don't have to stay here you know.”
Your attention snapped up to him in confusion. He doesn't take his eyes off the horizon, afraid he'll lose his nerve if he looks at you. He takes a minute to organize his thoughts.
“I want you to stay with me.” you feel your breath get stuck in your throat at his words.
“Really? You'd be… okay with me staying?”
“I wouldn't offer it if I had an issue with it.” He took another sip to hide his nerves.
“I…..yes. thank you.”
“You don't have to thank me.”
"Why wouldn't I? You're hosting me.”
Law turns his head towards you slightly, a look of disbelief on his face. “Hosting you? That's not what this is.” He pauses, voice dropping lower, rougher at the edges. “You’re not just some guest. You don’t need permission to be here.”
Another moment passes, one thick with meaning before he continues to speak. The words are almost stuck on his tongue. “Just… stay. If that’s what you want.”
For once there is no sarcastic tone in his remark. He doesn’t smirk or look away sharply to try and lessen the meaning of his words. He lets them hang there with all the emotion they're intended to conjure up filled in them.
“Yeah. That’s what I want.” you feel your heart race as you accept his offer. “I want to be with you. On your ship. For as long as you'll have me.”
“Good. Because you're stuck with me, now.”
You smile brightly at him. "Good.”
You keep smiling, leaning just a little into his shoulder to enjoy the moment..
He glanced down at you, feeling the shift in your weight. He enjoys it.
“Law. You're actually pretty cute when you're flustered.”
He grumbled under his breath a simple, “I am not cute.”
"Would you rather me say handsome?”
You felt him go rigid at the words. He was not use to getting compliments, especially ones about his appearance. A blush creeped onto his face and he tried to make his response dry.
“No.”
"What should I call you you then?”
He thinks over his next words carefully. A small smirk appeared on his face as he saw an opening to turn the tables on you. He spoke in a low smooth voice.
“Just call me yours.” it was a dumb cheesy line that still turned you into an awkward blushing mess. Despite the confidence in his voice, he was also too awkward to face you.
"That was really smooth Trafalgar Law.”
Without another word he took you in his arms and kissed you. It's a quick innocent one, full of love and all the other emotions he's unable to show you. You pulled away, your hands still on his bare chest and both of your red faced and awkward. But you wouldn't want his love any other way than genuine.
Summary: After the Winter Soldier sneaks into your house in search of medical supplies, you decide to offer him a place to stay
Part 3
“I know it's not that exciting but you can join me grocery shopping if you want. Pick out what you want to eat.”
He raised an eyebrow, a small smirk appearing on his face. "Groceries? Really?"
You shrugged, a small smile on your face.
"I figured it beats sitting around all day, right?"
He took a moment to think. "Fine. I'll go with you."
The whole time you were out Bucky was looking over his shoulder as if someone was following you. He was still on edge as if he was expecting someone to attack at any moment.
You took his hand which made him jump. He looked at you in confusion. You rubbed circles on the back of his hand and watched his shoulders relax. His grip on your hand tightened as he accepted the support.
"You stick out like a sore thumb acting like that. You make yourself look guilty."
He looked embarrassed that he was called out for his odd actions. "Sorry. I'm just being cautious. I'm not used to being around so many people without having to be on high alert."
"Just take a deep breath and help me pick out what to make for dinner."
"Fine. What are you thinking of cooking?"
"What's your favorite food?"
He was a little taken aback by your question. He wasn't used to people caring about his opinion.
"Favorite food? I don't know. I guess I like steak."
You couldn't imagine Hydra feeling him very well. When was the last time he had a real meal? Even before Hydra he was probably living on war rations.
"Do you know how to properly cook a steak properly?"
He nodded, his expression almost amused by your question. "Of course I do Doll."
"Perfect. You're in charge of that. I'll handle the sides. I'll just run off and grab my ingredients then."
He held onto your arm. "Stay with me please." He requested
You paused and looked into his eyes. They had so much emotion in them. More than you've seen him display. "Of course. I'll stay with you."
Though it ends up taking twice as long, you worked together to track down all the ingredients.
You hunted down the items and he helped when something was out of your reach or he wanted to recommend an ingredient that would pair well with the steak.
By the time you were done, you had a cart full of groceries. A calm expression washed over Bucky's face. He seemed relaxed with a small smile on his face as you both made your way to the check out line.
You felt proud to have gotten him that far. He noticed your expression, a small smirk forming on his face.
"What's with that look? You're looking at me like a proud parent."
"I'm just proud. You did a good job. You were patient, and you weren't too annoying."
He rolled his eyes, the smirk still on his face.
"Thanks, I guess. And for the record, I was never annoying."
“I don't know. You did get pretty clingy.” You teased
He scoffed, "I was not clingy. I was just keeping an eye on you."
“Suuuure. You know you can admit that you just wanted to hold my hand.”
Neither of you were aware, but a Hydra agent had been following you since you stepped foot in the market. As you continued to check out your groceries and engage in lighthearted banter, the Hydra agent observed the way Bucky interacted with you.
They noticed small gestures and subtle changes in his expression as he talked to you. He was particularly interested in the relaxed, almost playful demeanor Bucky now displayed. It was a stark contrast to the Winter Soldier’s usual cold and stoic facade.
In that moment he knew he was not observing the Winter soldier but something more human. A vulnerable side he had never witnessed before that belonged to Bucky the person he used to be. The Winter Soldier was changing in your presence, lowering his walls in an effort to get closer to you. But why you?
It was like you were reprogramming him, which made you a dangerous threat to Hydra's mission. You could undo decades of conditioning. They had to either take you out or control you if they wanted to neutralize you as a threat.
Once you were home the Hydra agent was satisfied with the information he gathered on you. Now he knew where both of you were residing and had enough information to make a case about his findings. The next time he returned he planned to take action.
Despite your protest, Bucky carried all of the groceries by himself and placed them on the kitchen counter while you organized them in the fridge. He felt like helping you with mundane chores was the least he could do to repay you. Plus housework seemed to calm him down and give him a sense of normality in his normally chaotic life.
Still, you tried to take the groceries from him, but he brushed you off playfully. You prepped the kitchen and played some of your favorite songs as background music.
He watched you for a moment, finding the way you took the simple task so seriously to be cute. You looked so concentrated as you shuffled through the list of songs on your phone until you settled on one. It seemed you had something specific in mind to set the mood.
Next you rinsed the potatoes and began to peel them while waiting for the pot on the stove to boil. You looked so at peace and comfortable in the kitchen. It was a side of you he had not seen before. He couldn't help but want to take a moment to take the image of you in.
You looked at him, noticing his dazed expression like he was somewhere else. "You alright? You look distracted."
He snapped out of his thoughts, his gaze refocusing on you. He was taken aback by your words, embarrassed that you had caught him staring. But it didn't seem like you minded or maybe you didn't realize.
“It's nothing.” You decided not to press him as he turned away from you. He was still getting use to opening up to you and you didn't want to push his boundaries.
You looked over to his station to see he was in the middle of seasoning the steaks. As far as you knew the process shouldn't take that long.
"Were you waiting on me? To show me how to get a proper sear?”
He nodded, "Yes. So let's get started. First, make sure the pan is hot. You don't want to cook a steak in a pan that's not hot enough. It'll end up being overcooked on the outside and raw on the inside."
You nodded, taking in his instructions. "Okay, got it. Hot pan, not a cold one."
"Then you need to make sure the steak is patted dry before searing it. You want to remove all excess moisture so that it doesn't steam instead of sear."
You nodded, taking in his words. "So a good sear should be easy enough, right?"
"Not as easy as you think. Cooking steak is an art. It takes finesse and precision." He warned as he observed you carefully, seeing the light focus in your expression.
You rolled your eyes, a smirk tugging at the corner of your mouth. "You know you're making this sound way more complicated than it actually is, right?"
He raised an eyebrow, his smirk mirroring yours. “And you know you're underestimating the skill needed to properly cook a steak, right?"
"How hard can it be to cook a steak? It's just meat."
He shook his head and faked offense, "It's not 'just meat.' It's a complex combination of factors that has to come together perfectly to achieve the ideal sear. Heat, how long you leave it, if you flip it or leave it to sit...it's not just meat."
"Okay, I get it. It's not just meat, it's a complex culinary process that requires a certain level of skill."
He nodded, satisfied with your response. "Exactly.” He took your hand, guiding it to the stove, positioning your hand to take over.
He patiently guided your movements, you found yourself becoming acutely aware of his proximity. You could feel the warmth radiating off his skin, as he stood behind you. You could feel the strength in his grip as he guided your hand. You felt a flutter in your stomach at his nearness, his low voice only inches away from your ear. He was so close, his body so near, you couldn't help but be distracted.
His voice was a low, gravelly whisper, his breath warm on your neck. "Now, let it sear for a minute, then flip it over. Don't let it burn, but let it get a nice golden brown crust.”
You got so fixated and distracted by Bucky's presence that you lost concentration on your work for just a moment. Which was long enough for you to accidentally burn yourself.
His eyes widened as he saw you burn yourself, but his reaction was instant. He dragged you towards the sink and made sure the water was cold before pulling your hand under the running water.
"You should have been more careful." He murmured in your ear. He kept your hand under the water, the coolness soothing your burnt fingers. Despite the pain in your hand all you could focus on was how close he was to you.
His body was pressed against your back, his left hand rested on your hip while his right held your hand under the water. You could feel his breath on your neck and it was making it impossible to think of anything else. You couldn't help but notice how handsome he was when he was focused like that.
"I wouldn't of if you weren't being so distracting." You managed to speak up.
He smirked at your comment, his grip on your hand tightening slightly. "And what exactly am I doing that is so distracting?" He replied, his voice low and teasing.
You could feel your heart skip a beat at his words, your breath catching in your throat. His proximity was almost overwhelming, and his touch on your hand was sending tingles up your spine. You found yourself unable to speak, your mind completely blank.
"You're not answering my question." He whispered, his lips almost brushing against your ear.
Your eyes went wide. “The steak!”
He cursed and scrambled to take the food off the stove.
You laughed, it was a sharp contrast from the confidence he was exuding a moment ago.
“Is it still good?” He prodded at the meat with a fork to test it's tenderness.
He let out a sigh of relief. “They're good.”
The two of you finished making the sides and plated them on the table. You grabbed two wine glasses in one hand which made Bucky give you a confused look.
"Wine?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. "We didn't buy any wine."
"I snuck some in. I heard this one pairs well with red meat."
You poured the deep red liquid into two glasses before passing one to him. He took it graciously before taking a small sip and smirking in approval. "Damn, you were right. This is good wine."
"I told you so." You smiled proudly.
He rolled his eyes at your response "Of course you're going to be smug about being right." He said, his tone playful but affectionate.
"I deserve to be smug. I'm always right." You said, your voice oozing with confidence.
"Always right, eh? Remind me what happened while you were cooking?" He couldn't help but tease you.
"Oh, shut up. That was an accident. I got distracted by you." You said, taking a slightly larger swig of wine.
He smirked, his gaze still fixed on you. He could sense the effect he had on you, the way your body responded to his proximity. He found himself wanting more, wanting to push further, to see just how much he could affect you. He took a slow sip of wine, his gaze never leaving your face.
He saw an opportunity for just that in your statement.
"So I'm distracting?"
You nodded, your voice trying to remain calm and steady, pretending not to be affected by him.
"It was your fault. You were too close and too distracting. I couldn't concentrate properly.." You said, taking another long sip of wine. "I mean. With a handsome face like yours."
He smiled, his gaze still fixed on you. He couldn't help but enjoy the fact that you found him attractive. The idea that he could be desired by you sent a thrill through him. He wondered what else he could coaxed out of you.
"Oh, I'm handsome, now?"
You playfully hit him on the arm. "Oh, don't act as if you don't already know it."
You finished your first glass of wine and half of your meal when your felt the alcohol kick in. You wondered if it even affected Bucky.
He found it amusing and a bit endearing how quickly the alcohol affected you. Even without being compared to his super soldier metabolism, you were a lightweight.
Then he realized how open you were in this state. He wondered what information he could get out of you.
"You always get drunk this quickly?" He smirked at you as he studied the way your face changed.
He could see the flush on your cheeks, the way your eyelids became heavier. Your movements became more loose and animated.
"It's not my fault you have a freakish resistance to this stuff."
He chuckled, "No, but you're still a lightweight." He teased.
"I'm not drunk. Just a little buzzed. Besides you have a ridiculous tolerance." The alcohol had lowered your walls, made the boundaries between you two more blurred. You leaned back in your chair.
"You're getting redder by the second doll.." He leaned in a bit closer, his body language more casual now.
You blushed, almost falling out of your chair in an attempt to get further away from him. “Shut up.”
“What? Don't like it when I call you doll?”
"It's not that It's just. You're cheap waiting for now to flirt with me. At least I do it when you're sober.”
He let out a laugh. He found himself amused by your words and by the fact that you were actually calling him out.
"What can I say? I like seeing you all flustered like this, doll." His voice was now a deep purr.
"I'm not flustered." You said, but your flushed cheeks said otherwise.
"You can deny all you want doll. I can tell." You tried to look away from him so he couldn't read you anymore.
You tried to compose yourself, but it was pointless as long as the alcohol was still in your system. Maybe buying it wasn't as good of an idea as you thought.
He didn't want to take advantage of you in this state, but he had to know. He had to test your thoughts about him while he could get honest answers.
"Hey doll, can I ask you something?" His tone changed to a more serious and honesty one.
You nodded your head in a loose manner.
He paused for a moment, gathering his thoughts, trying to find the right words to ask the right question. He only had this one opportunity to know what you really thought of him. Maybe that was all he has to ask.
"What do you think of me?" His voice was hesitant as he was afraid he wouldn't like the answer. Was this a question he should even be asking? He held his breath.
You paused for a moment, taking your time to think of the right answer. The drink only making it harder to form a coherent answer.
You found yourself thinking really thinking about what impression he made on you so far.
He was strong, kind, caring and smart. He made you feel safe. He made you feel like you could be vulnerable around him like you could trust him.
He watched the gears turning in your head as he waited on you. All he could do was pray and hope that you saw positive things in him.
"I think you're scary." You started off.
He felt a brief pang of hurt. He had been prepared to hear you say something negative, but the confirmation still stung.
"Scary? Because of everything I've done?"
"Scary...but not always in a bad way." You added, almost as an afterthought
He raised an eyebrow and let you continue to ramble.
"It's more intimidating since you're capable of dealing with any situation." You tried to explain. “But you make me feel safe.”
“Well. As long as you feel safe around me.” He let out a breath he did not realize he was holding. He could live with that. You didn't see him as a monster the way he thought you did and it was a relief to finally get his answer.
“Ok doll. You've had enough. Let's get you to sleep huh.” You began to whine saying you weren't ready to tired yet, but the alcohol in your system was already coaxing you to sleep. Your eyelids grew heavy and you began to stop talking mid sentence, like your brain was shutting down causing you to forget your thoughts.
He cared for you while you were half asleep and drunk. He managed to get you to brush your teeth and change your clothes before settling you down for bed. Once you were under the covers you went out like a light and he couldn't help but relish the view.

Part 2
He followed you to your apartment, his eyes darting around at his surroundings. He was on high alert, vigilant and cautious as always. He seemed to relax once you entered your apartment.
“I have a spare room.”
He nodded, but other wise did not respond.
He seemed to be looking for any signs of danger and therefore was not completely focused on your words. "I'll need to inspect the room first before I can use it."
You let him go through whatever routine he wanted as long as it made him feel safe.
He was thorough in his search, checking every nook and cranny. He looked in the closet, under the bed, and even tested the floorboards. Once he finished, he seemed slightly more relaxed. He seemed satisfied with the room, and he gave a small nod of approval.
Once he was satisfied you immediately went into your role as a hostess. You grabbed him a clean set of clothes that you kept in your house. You went around your apartment complex to collect clothes for a clothes drive and this seemed to be a good way to use some of them.
You set aside anything that seemed around his side and put them in a wash. Then you folded a pair and placed them in his arms.
"Bath is straight ahead. Don't use up all the hot water.”
Bucky gripped the clothes in his arms, looking down at them in surprise. He couldn't remember the last time he had a real bath.
"Don't worry, I won't."
"Good. I'll be right back. I have a load of laundry to start in the basement."
30 minutes passed quickly and you returned to your apartment with the laundry you just finished. You almost didn't recognize Bucky after he finished his shower.
He looked like a different person. His hair was slicked back, revealing his sharp features and steely eyes. The stubble on his face was still there, but it looked less disheveled and more purposeful.
By the next day you came home irritated and ranting.
“Never do a customer service job. People can be so rude.” You dropped your purse off on a side table. “How was your day? I'd assume it felt nice not having to run around.”
He shrugged, a smirk on his face.
“It was different being able to have free time.”
“Good different?”
“Yeah.”
“You sleep well?” For some reason he felt like the truth would hurt you, so he lied and said it was fine. He was not sure how long it would take him until he felt comfortable enough to sleep the full night through and it wasn't your responsibility or your fault. He felt like you would just blame yourself for his discomfort. He already felt like you were doting on him so heavily and your efforts couldn't be for nothing.
You made yourself comfortable on the couch next to him. Your sudden proximity pulled him out from his thoughts.
“What does an old man like you even watch to pass the time?”
He rolled his eyes as if he was annoyed but you could spot a smile forming at the edge of his lips, "I may be old, but I can still appreciate some modern shows. I'm not a complete fossil, you know."
"Aren't you older than television itself?"
It was hard to believe the man you were joking with was the same brooding one that held you hostage yesterday. “You seem a lot better than yesterday. You're a different person.”
“Ok ok. That's enough.”
He noticed you were wearing a long sleeve despite it being hot outside. "What's with the long sleeves?"
You didn't exactly want to talk about the bruises he left behind. You shrugged, trying to act casual. "It's nothing, just cold."
“I wasn't exactly gentle during our little altercation yesterday was I?”
You sighed, realizing he was not going to let this go You reluctantly rolled up the sleeves, revealing the bruising on your arms. The marks were dark and obvious, a clear indication of the violent encounter.
“Barely feel them.”
He frowned as he inspected the bruised. He felt guilty and ashamed for causing so much damage. He tried to remain composed, but it was obvious that he wasn't comfortable seeing the injuries he had inflicted on you.
He looked away, avoiding your gaze. He couldn't bear to look at the marks he left on your skin any longer.
He wanted to apologize but it got stuck in his throat. Besides an apology wouldn't change the fact that he hurt you.
You felt him retreat back into himself.
You didn't want him to lose him and have him revert back into his cold demeanor. Not when you were just making progress.
"I should go." He announced.
"No, stay." You said, reaching out and held onto his arm as he stood.
He paused at your touch, but ultimately jerked his arm away and left to his room. You let him leave not wanting to deny him the right even if everything in you wanted to stop him.
You sat there, feeling frustrated and helpless. Hopefully the next day will be more promising.
Summary: After the Winter Soldier sneaks into your house in search of medical supplies, you decide to offer him a place to stay
Part 1
You saw the news reports on the winter soldier on TV and they made him a terrifying person to behold. He was a dangerous assassin that was on the run from the government and should be reported on sight.
They constantly replayed a highlight of his latest incident on a highway where he used an explosive weapon to blow up a few cars before fleeing. The sight of the masked man walking calming through the fire if the chaos he created sent chills down your spine. But after your co-worker Steve Rogers, yes that Steve Rogers, was given the same villain treatment on TV you began to question everything. It was why you were so open to his proposition when Steve approached you at home late one night.
He looked sad and desperate on your doorstep with tired puppy dog eyes staring at you. You invited him without a second thought and made a meal for him before sitting down. He seemed grateful for your assistance and you had a feeling it was the first real break he had for days.
“So. You've been on an adventure since the last time I saw you.” You attempted to joke. He smiled in response.
“Yeah. Guess you could say that.” The air went silent.
“Ok. Out with it. There's no good way to break bad news.” You leaned back in your chair, arms crossed to show you were not going to entertain any other topics of conversation until he said what was on his mind.
“SHIELD has been infiltrated by Hydra.” He explained. “I know you're just work a desk job there but just keep your head down ok.”
You rocketed forward from your chair, “What? How? Since when?”
He shrugged, “Since it was founded. They've been manipulating us since the beginning and I am working on exposing them.”
“Corruption at it's finest.” He was surprised that his words alone were enough to win you over, “Is there anything else I can do for you other than give you food and shelter for the night?”
“Actually. The Winter Soldier he's my best friend back from the war.”
“World War II? How?”
“He was captured by Hydra back then and put into cryo sleep. Only woken up when they need him to do their bidding as an assassin.”
“That sounds awful to be brainwashed like that. I can't imagine what that would feel like. I am so sorry.”
“I think you have a good way with words. If you talk to him and help him the way you're helping me–”
“You know it's ok to admit when you just need help Steve. You don't have to convince me up to do the right thing.”
He let out a breath he was holding and a heavy blush tinted his cheeks out of embarrassment from getting caught in a lie. “I am not saying to seek him out just....if he happens to cross your path call me not the police.”
You agreed to his terms not knowing you would be held to meet them just a week later after SHIELD was exposed and Steve himself went on the run.
You woke up to the sound of something large falling to the ground. You didn't want to leave the comfort of your bed, but knowing it was probably something important that got damaged coaxed you out. You figured the painting you hung on the hallway walls last week was not secure after all. So you stumbled into the hall and found nothing out of place. All you spotted was the light that shone through the partly opened bathroom door.
Weird. You were sure you turned it off after brushing your teeth. Still, trying to stay in a sleepy state, you slowly approached the door and opened it to find a man dressed in tactical gear raiding your medicine cabinet.
Thankfully you always kept your phone on you and dialed Steve's burner phone before slipping your own in your back pocket.
“It's Bucky. Right?” You weren't sure if it was better or worse to know his name. But you did know that you needed to stall until Steve arrived.
He glared at you with anger in his eyes, but you spotted the blood seeping through his fingers as he held them against his side. He was seriously injured and desperate for help.
You slowly approached him with your arms raised in the air. His hands were too slick with blood to open the latches on the med kit you had stashed away. Sensing you did not mean him harm, he retreated away from you to allow you to help without letting his eyes off you. It reminded you of a wild animal that was corned and desperate for help. Maybe that's what he was in this moment.
You wiped the blood off with some toilet paper and popped the latches opened. It was a more substantial emergency kit including those stick on sutures. With how often New York was under attack you never wanted to be caught off guard.
He greedily snatched the supplies and turned to face away from you as he attempted to tend his wounds. He rolled up his shirt until it reached his ribs and pinned it down.
His hands worked with a level of speed and efficiency that told you he had done this many times before. It took him about ten minutes to finish the whole process and you were back to stalling. To your surprise he began to clean up the mess he made.
“You know Steve told me about you. He said you're a good person.” He snapped towards you with such speed it sent a chill down your spine.
“I--I mean you're not under their control anymore.” Them, you talked about Hydra as if it was nothing yet you refused to say their name.
“I am not the same person he knew back then.” His voice was rough and gravely as if he was getting use to using it.
You bent down to help gather some of the discarded gauze he was cleaning up when your phone fell out of your back pocket and clattered against the tile floor. Steve's face was clearly shown on the screen. It was a cropped group photo you took with him from the last corporate party that you assigned as his profile picture. Your blood ran cold.
His face hardened as he glared back up at you.
“He just wants to help.” You tried to explain but he just scoffed at you.
“Is that what he told you? That I need help?”
“You're hurt. Lost.”
“Don't pretend like you know me.” He warned. “Now get out of my way before I make you.”
You stood defiantly in the doorway refusing to let him leave.
“You really think you can stop me?” He lowered his voice to try and intimidate you but it did not work.
“No.” You answered honestly despite your obvious fear. He clenched his fist, frustrated by your stubbornness. “See. You haven't hurt me even though I gave you a reason to. You're good.”
“That's not true.” He snapped at the accusation. “I could easily hurt you if I wanted to.”
“But you won't.”
“You sure about that?” You nodded in response, your convictions strong. He let out a sigh. “You're really not going to let me leave are you?” You shook your head.
Just as Bucky decided to give up on convincing you and push you aside, he heard a familiar set of footsteps approach him. His gaze darted towards the front door of the apartment where Steve now stood.
"Damnit, Rogers" he mumbled under his breath. As if he just made the decision, Bucky quickly spun you around and held you against his chest. He used one arm to pin yours to your side and held a gun on you with the other. You knew it was an empty threat.
“You don't want to do this Buck. This isn't you.” Steve tried his best to talk his friend down but he only tightened his grip on you as he felt threatened.
“Back off Steve.” He slowly backed you out of the room and into the hallway in search of a quick exit. His eyes landed on the window at the end of the hall. There was a rooftop just across the way the fall wasn't too bad. He knew he could make that jump.
Steve followed his gaze and let out a tired sigh. He knew him long enough to know where this is going. His voice sounded tired like him pulling stunts like this was a common inconvenience.
“Buck. Don't do anything stupid.” He stepped forward halfway through his sentence as Bucky made his move. Steve reached out to grab him, but he was not fast enough.
“Hold onto me.” It was the only warning you got and Bucky turned you around and pulled you into his chest. He jutted out his metal arm to make sure it was the first thing to make contact with the glass instead of you. The window shattered all around you and you buried your face further into his chest to hide. You squeezed your eyes shut as you felt your stomach drop, the wind rushing around you until you landed.
He ran until he found an abandoned building to lay low in. It was an old warehouse. He easily broke the lock with his metal arm and pulled you inside. You were inside some old storage unit.
He releases you once you were inside. He was on high alert, stuck in his head as he tried to form a plan and a hard look of concentration masked his face.
You happily sat on the floor and watched him go through his routine. Your eyes followed him from one end to the other and back again. Once he was satisfied and deemed the place to be secure, he returned to you.
He looked down at you with a confused expression. “You could have ran.”
“Like I said before. You wouldn't hurt me.”
Bucky clenched his jaw. He was annoyed by you. He didn't like being seen through like that. He liked being the unpredictable one, the one people couldn't get a handle on. But some how you managed to call his bluff.
"Don't be so sure" he grumbled, his tone was defensive as he tried to convince you that he was dangerous.
"I am not scared of you. I know you won't hurt me. You're not the monster you think you are."
He scoffed, a small smirk forming on his face
"I know it wasn't your fault. I know I can give you an opportunity to prove yourself.
"Why would you help me?"
"You don't know anything about me. You don't know the things I've done, the horrors I've committed. I'm a monster."
He seemed desperate for you to understand though he tried to hide it. It was as if he wanted you to truly see him for who he was. You had to see him as nothing more than a deadly assassin for your own safety. And part of him wanted you to challenge him. To prove him wrong.
“You can still make up for your past.” He laughed bitterly at your niave response.
"You think it's that easy? You think I can make up for all the things I've done? You think I can just wash my sins away and start over?"
You reached out to try to hold his hand and calm him down. His body tensed up as you reached out to him. He was skittish, like a wild animal that wasn't used to being touched. You wondered if he was even use to receiving a gentle touch.
"It's ok. Just stay here with me." He wanted to believe your words, he really did. But he was struggling with the guilt and shame of his past, the fear that he was beyond redemption and that he was destined to be alone forever.
"You don't understand. I'm a danger to everyone around me. I'm a weapon, a killing machine. It's better for everyone if I just run and keep running. I can't let myself get close to anyone, I'll just end up hurting them."
“I bet if you let me get to know you I could prove the type of person you really are. So what do you say? You could stay with me for a while under your own terms. Steve could visit without feeling the need to keep you under lock and key. You'd be save from Hydra and the government. No more running.”
He was silent for a moment as he pondered your offer, torn between his want to believe you and his fear of trusting again. "You really think I can just stay with you, no strings attached? No hidden agenda, no hidden motives? No tricks?"
“Yes.” Your response was firm and confident.
"Why would you help me?" He couldn't believe there wouldn't be a catch.
"You seem to need a break." You answered honestly. "You can't tell me there isn't something in you that doesn't want to lay low and take things easy. Just for a little bit."
"When's the last time you slept without having to keep an eye open? Or had a real shower."
"I am doing fine without that. I don't need it."
"You don't need basic human care?" You joked.
You watched his face hardened as he thought over your offer. He weighed the pros and cons in his head.
"How am I supposed to trust you when I barely even know you? How am I supposed to trust you when I don't know your motives, your history, your intentions?"
“Steve trust me and it's not like I could stop you from leaving. If you try living with me and find it's not for you. I won't stop you from going on the run again. I am not trying to trap you Bucky. I am just trying to give you a peaceful solution.”
He let out a sigh, his face settling as he made his decision. "I...I'll give you a chance. But I'm putting down some ground rules here. No one else can find out I'm here, not even Steve. Understand?"
Two Times He Tries to Admit His Feelings and the One Time He Does
Hellfire Gala! Peter Quill x Healer!Reader
Peter has been wanting to confess his love to you for ages. Turns out he just needed to wait for the right moment.
As a healer, it was hard keeping track of a whole team during a mission. Especially when it includes pushing a point where everyone scatters in the wind. You did your best to keep an eye out for everyone, but with they way they were rushing in out of sync it was hard to keep up with demand.
You were following Psylocke and Punisher when an enemy Venom pulled his ultimate attack and aimed it right at your group.
“Wonderful.” You mumbled to yourself. “Just perfect. Glad my team is looking out for me.”
You were beyond frustrated feeling forgotten by your team. You ran into an alleyway to try and make your way back to your team. But before you knew it a yellow and green blur was racing towards you.
Iron fist. It was always iron fist.
He practically bounced off the walls, too quick for you to be able to hit. You managed to stun him and run away, but you knew that would not stop him. You hid away to catch your breath when you heard the familiar sound of jet boots by you.
"Need an escort?" Peter Quill questioned playfully.
“Yes.” You didn't care that you sounded as desperate as you were. He chuckled at your honest reaction. “Wait. Were you keeping track ok me?”
“Always do.” He replied nonchalantly as if that was not the nicest thing someone has done for you all week.
Despite his teammates needing his support to push the objective, he walked shoulder to shoulder with you along the back lines. You felt guilty for dragging him away.
“Sorry about all of this.”
“Not your fault you got ditched and I don't mind helping you. I am already used to keeping an eye on Mantis.” You weren't being a nuisance to him then. That was a relief. “I was thinking maybe you and I could–” He didn't have time to finish his sentence as Iron Fist came back for revenge.
He surged towards you, but Peter managed to intercept the attack. Though he was not meant to be a tank, taking punches and dishing them out like other members of your team, he was willing to try for your sake.
With his fancy flips and spinning attacks, he was able to out maneuver iron fist while keeping him off you. Actually he was trying to make a fool of him through his fancy attacks just to rub salt in the wound for hurting you. He slowly whittled away at him until he was forced to retreat. By the time he broke off an announcement was made. Your side lost the match.
Attempt 2:
You were not sure what caused his change, but you knew Peter was fighting more recklessly than the last time you had seen him. Every few minutes he came running back to you for help. Now he was flying around above the enemy team, turning as many heads and he could. Once he got everyone's attention he decided to pull off his ultimate attack.
It was quite a sight. He shot up into the air, his mask now covering his face and as his guns were covered in colorful fire. But his flashy moves left him open. Black Widow had plenty of time to kine up her shot. She fired a single round and shot him down before he could finish saying legendary.
It all happened so fast It was almost comical. The exact opposite effect Peter was hoping to have on the crowd. He shot up into the air showing off for all to see only to immediately get taken out.
“Oh my gosh that idiot.” You said not being able to believe what you just saw. “Mantis. You think you could cover for me while I get him?”
She nodded confidently. “His mind is clouded by thoughts of jealousy.”
“Jealousy?” You thought, “Was he really that upset that Bucky was getting more kills than him? It was not even by that much. Plus he had less deaths thanks to my wonderful healing.”
You found Peter laying face down behind a half wall. “Look Mantis told me you were jealous of Bucky.”
“She did?” His pain began to melt away as you healed his injuries. You started with the larger ones first since they would take longer to heal. He barely survived the attack by the look of it.
“Yeah and honestly I don't get why. You might not be getting the most kills on the team, but you're still doing really good.” You finished healing the bulk of the damage he took and moved on to the scratches on his face.
“No. It's not that I am jealous of.” He tried to correct you.
“Then what is it?” His brain froze for a moment.
How could he possibly explain to you what he was feeling? How could he explain the irrational anger he felt watching you dote on other heroes like Bucky. The image of your hand on his bicep was still burned into his mind. And he definitely remembered watching him use his arm to pull you out of the way of an oncoming attack so you landed right in his arms. His arm lingered around you longer than necessary. How would he explain his frustration that all he could do was steal away little moments like this for your attention? But his opportunity to confess how he felt vanished before he could think of how to voice his feelings.
“I am sorry to interrupt, but I do require assistance at the point.” You heard Mantis speak up in your ear piece.
“Let's talk afterwards yeah?” You ran off without another word to support your team.
Attempt 3:
When you heard Peter Quill was invited to the exclusive Hellfire Gala you didn't expect to be invited as his plus one.(Completely platonically of course.) He said it was to make up for all the times you saved his ass on the field during mission. All the times you spend in the Milano tending to his wounds as well as his friends after a losing match. All the times you listened to him rant on and on about dumb stuff when everyone else ignored him. But if it was supposed to be platonic why did you find yourself blushing at the sight of him dressed up in his gala outfit as he waited to escort you inside.
You had never seen him look so regal before and for the first time you could see him being a king. He wore what looked to be a mix of armor and a clean suit with a regal sash thrown in to add to his title. He even slicked back his normally wind blown hair to keep it tidy.
He froze up once he saw you, his eyes went wide and he did not try to cover up his surprise. Luna helped you pick out a dress for the event. As a pop star she did attend many fancy events like this in the past after all. She had her personal stylist create a custom dress for you that not only fit you perfectly, but also made you feel confident since it was a style you liked.
"Wow. You look amazing." He offered his arm to you which you took.
“You don't look too bad yourself Star-Lord. Or is it Star-King today?” You joked and watched the faintest blush grow on his face.
You strode in on a red carpet together and someone announced your names and titles, though you did not have one so they just used your hero name.
The venue was beautifully decorated with banquet tables full of fancy hors d'oeuvres and champagne towers. A live band played calm music on stage as everyone talked among their own groups. Every once in a while fireworks were ignited, filling the sky with shimmering glitter. It felt like there was something to do everywhere you looked.
“Well. We can split up now if you want. Feel free to explore the party.” Though he had a smile on his face as he gave you the offer you could tell there was a hint of sadness in his voice. He didn't actually want you to leave, but didn't want to ruin your night by making you stay with him.
“I am just fine right here, don't worry.”
You gravitated towards familiar faces as you settled in. It was fun seeing your teammates dressed in elegant attire. Peter noticed that everyone had drinks in their hands to prepare for a toast, so he quietly broke off to get you one. The moment he left your side someone moved in to make themselves known. Namor who was too cowardly to make a move until Peter happened to leave.
Of course he was invited to the gala. It was impossible to ignore his title when he boasted about it before every match. He also used it as a selling point when flirting with you. At least Peter had enough class to know when to stop and didn't hide behind his title.
“You know if you ruled by my side you could attend events like this every night.”
“Sorry. Being with you is too high of a price to pay.” Your rejection did nothing to dissuade him. Suddenly you were being offered a drink.
“Sorry that took a moment.” Peter slipped his hand around your waist pretending to be oblivious to the situation. “What were you talking about?”
To your surprise the call out worked and he backed off. Walking away completely. The woman he desired being taken usually didn't deter him. Susan could testify to that.
“I hope that was ok.” He scratched the back of his neck. “It just seemed like he was bothering you. I can't wait to see what rumors they spread about us once we're back.”
“They should know better if they want to get healed.” You joked back.
“You're a badass on the field. They already know to stay on your good side.”
“Hah. Yeah sure. The terrifying healer.” You poked fun at yourself.
Compared to the other heroes here you didn't feel like much. Heck even compared to other healers you felt useless at times. You could not create daggers to defend yourself like Tandy could or shield the whole team from ultimate attacks like Luna. He seemed to pick up on your thoughts and frowned at you with nothing but concern in his eyes.
“Hey. You're amazing. You know that right?” His voice was full of genuine care. “You're crazy brave too. I remember the time Doreen and I got caught up in Spider-Man's web. You swooped in, took him out and healed us right up. Or when the Thing was charging forward and somehow you managed to steer him just around us. The point is you're amazing and–” he paused a moment to take your hand, but his speech was cut off as someone tapped on a mic onstage to test it. Peter mumbled a curse under his breath.
“To all our new guest from across the timelines. I welcome you to the Hellfire Gala!” A woman who could easily be a super model based on her looks and the confident power in her voice manned the stage. She had a strong presence that made everyone focus on her. But she interrupted his moment with you, so Peter ignored a majority of her speech. “Honored guests. I propose a toast. To Krakoa! Here, there are no rivals. Man and mutant–”
Suddenly a robotic voice cuts her off. “Will be exterminated. You all belong to history.” Dozens of robots poured out of a swirling red vortex. Of course they couldn't be allowed a moment to enjoy themselves.
“Time to clock in.” You joked, making your hands glow with healing magic.
As usual you kept everyone alive during the fight. For it being a surprise attack you would say it went smoothly. You'd like to credit it to everyone's ability to work together as a team. After all, all you've been doing is fighting together since the time lines got mixed up.
You sat in a wooden chair across from Peter towards the sidelines of the event. Your knees were touching and he could practically melt from that contact alone. Everyone who was healthy enough stayed to help clean up the mess of broken furniture and glass. A calm silence settled over the event.
Peter was just happy that he finally got what he wanted. You taking care of him after a big fight. You carefully inspected him for wounds, applying gentle pressure to his ribs and other areas to make sure there was no brusing or other internal injuries.
He shamelessly stared at you as you worked. He thought you looked so pretty when you were focused.
"You know that day Mantis told you I was jealous of Bucky."
"Oh yeah. You never got to tell me what happened."
"I was jealous of him because he got your attention like this so often after fights." He took your hand in his making you freeze. He took a deep breath, summoning his courage.
"I was jealous because I like you. A lot. I was hoping to be able to take you out sometime."
"What's wrong with having a date now? The band is still here....the floor is empty." His face lit up at the offer.
"That's why I love you." His eyes went wide upon realizing he said that out loud and immediately tried to backpedal. "I am sorry that's way too soon. I shouldn't have said that. We haven't even had our first date yet."
You felt proud to turn someone who was normally so confident and silly into a bumbling mess. You stood and he guided you to the dance floor without hesitation. Since it was a string band, they played slow music you weren't sure he was ready for.
"I know this isn't the style of dancing. I hope you don't mind." He carefully took your hand and placed the other on your hip to guide you into a waltz.
"Well I can't be a dancing machine if I don't know every dance."
"You're also surprisingly light on your feet." You complimented. He did not want to admit he had been practicing in hope of impressing you. He was glad all the work paid off.
The two of you stayed there for a while, elegantly gliding across the dance floor for as long as you were allowed. Despite the attack that occurred earlier, the night felt like a dream.
An announcement was made that the firework show was surprisingly still on schedule. It was to serve as a closing act for the night. He pulled you away to avoid more private area to view the show that was centered over a beautiful view of city lights. He stood behind you and wrapped his arms around you, gently laying his chin on the top of your head as you leaned into him.
"You know I really like this romantic side of you."
"Then I'll have to plan out something perfect for our next one."
"I know something that can make this one perfect right now." You turned around to face him and his hands fell to your hips. You swear you felt him pull you close.
"And what's that?" He asked as if his eyes did not just flick down to look at your lips.
"A ki-- " You didn't even have enough time to get the word out before his lips were on yours. He cupped your face in his hand, lifting it slightly to reach him as he bent over. The kiss felt desperate and needy as if all his longing was poured into it. When you pulled away he was smiling like a fool like he was on a high off of the feeling of you. Totally drunk on some type of love.
After all his blunders, you deserved something perfect for a date and he felt like he was able to deliver on that. He felt accomplished and was greatful he waited for the right moment.
Summary: The story of how you find out your best friend is an assassin. Jacob Frye x Reader Part 1 Part 2
Finding out that Jacob was involved in a fighting ring just made you more curious about your friend and who he was. Based on his skill in fighting and the money he made off of it, you wondered if it was his full time job.
Come to think of it, you met his twin sister before, who you got alone wonderfully with, but no one else from his family. And evertime you offered to visit, he always canceled so you never got to know where he lived. You never pushed too hard for answers to respect his boundaries, but your curiosity was starting to drive you mad.
Your determination and confusion was only fuled when you found a mysterious letter on your doorstep one morning.
"You've never seen the real Jacob Frye. If you truly wish to know who he is, you must see him in the town. Go to the alley between the housing and factory on Jackson street at 8:00 pm if you want to see his true colors."
A carriage waited for you on the main street outside of your house hidden away from curious eyes. Then when you felt it was time, you made your way behind the industrial building. It was the loud shady area of town that you last visited with Jacob. This place was dirty, loud and frightening. Dark shadows fell on every corner and the deafening clanking sounds from the working factory kept you on edge. Maybe that was why you paid no attention to the first figure that scrambled and stumbled into the alley ahead of you.
He was afraid and held his hands up in defense and fear. You paid him little attention until someone you knew stepped into the flickering light of the gas lamps. Jacob.
Jacob gripped the pleading man by the front of his shirt and light reflected off the brass knuckles Jacob wore as he raised his fist to him. Logically you knew you did not have the full picture, that there must have been something else going on to justify what you were witnessing, but your heart said otherwise.
"Jacob?" You called out to him in a weak, questioning voice and hoped he did not react. You wanted it to be a case of mistaken identity, but it was not.
"(y/n)!" Jacob looked up at you in shock, his mouth was hung open and his eyes were wide. The expression immediately vanished when the man he attacked bolted down the alley. Jacob froze, unable to decide whether he should stay and face you or catch his target.
"Who sent you here?" He demanded then immediately changed the subject, "You can get in a lot of trouble for being seen here with me. Please, just leave." Worry seeped into his voice when he asked you to leave, but before you could make your decision, he himself ran off into the maze of alleyways.
Jacob avoided you for days after the incident. You patiently waited on him to feel ready to confront the topic, but your patience wore thin. This went on for three days until you became determined to see the man who wrote you the letter. His name was Maxwell Roth, the owner of one of the nearby factory districts. You recalled hearing Jacob talk about him before to Evie and from what you over heard, he was Jacob's business partner.
Maxwell Roth's office sat on the top floor of his manufacturing factory. Since you were never invited to the factory, you worried over how your unwelcomed arrival would stand with the man of questionable character. So you stood outside the carriage that was parked in the docking area of the factory. It seemed appropriate since all the carriages carrying shipments to and from this building stayed there. You took a deep breath, asked the driver to wait on you for a half hour at most and proceed towards the front door.
It was actually a sliding bay door that was as large as a wall and, thanks to the wheels that were attached to it, slid open when you pushed it. Beyond the wall was a mess of fire, smoke and sweat.
The ringing and clanging sound of iron striking iron was so loud workers had to shout to each other just to be heard. Strong men covered in sweat labored over shaping metal with heavy hammers and sparks flew at them with every hit.
Small children with soot covered faces ran around the factory floor to complete their assigned tasks. Others shoveled piles of dark coal into furnaces that belched out dark pillars of smoke. Metal rafters criss-crossed high above your head and added to the massive size of the building. The ceiling and rafters were so high above your head, you had to look up to even notice them.
You wandered up a set of narrow, but massively tall stairs that ran along the front of the left wall. They lead up to a small looking office that had windows covering the upper half of every wall so the manager could always keep an eye on his workers. Even though it seemed impossible for anyone to notice you among the chaos of the floor, you quickly ascended the stairs and was spotted.
The boss resided in the office, sitting behind a large desk with a smug smile as he waited on you to enter the room. He obviously knew you were coming after all.
"Mr. Roth" you politely greeted from the doorway before stepping in, "I came here regarding the letter you sent me a few days ago. I did not expect you to manage your workers so poorly."
He stood and chuckled at your naive expectations and your guts for having your opening statement be so rude and rejecting. His lack of communication angered you and you chose to speak for him in an attempt to get him to talk.
"Jacob. He works against you doesn't he?" You questioned bluntly after piecing everything together. Maybe Jacob worked with this man at one point in time, but there was no way he would tolerate this type of business.
"Yes he does. He attacks my industry, kills my best men. All to sabotage our work. "
"Based off what I've seen here. It seems he's doing the right thing. You make children slaves, create deadly work spaces for your people and ignore their needs and further the poverty in this town. You need to be stopped."
"I work against Starrick just like him. We should be partners!" He objected, "but simple people like you and that rat don't seem to understand that. Besides, if Jacob was doing such good work, why would he hide it? We all know he doesn't want you or anyone to know about his work. I must say he's done quite well at keeping the two separate. You're the only person he knows that I've been able to track down after all. Besides his sister."
"That's why you sent me the letter? To expose him and have me betray him? To make me believe he is as evil as you?"
"Oh, I had more in mind than just that." He said with a smile as he drummed his fingers along the desk. "It lured you out of his safety, which is more than I could have asked for." Alarm bells went off in your head as you realized this whole conversation was made to stall and distract you. By the time you turned around there was already a large figure blocking the doorway.
He reached for your arm, but you quickly moved it away and punched the hulking man right in the throat. Out of breath and confused by the sudden turn of events, he became an easy guard to slip past.
Your dress was restrictive enough to slow you down as you raced to the carriage, but not enough to let you get caught. Due to the extra fabric that fell in front of your feet, it was also very easy to trip on if you miss stepped as you weaved your way through the active working floor.
Thankfully, your driver was alert and sped off the moment you were in the carriage. The momentum caused you to fall in your seat and everything jostled from side to side. You were successfully out pacing the goons when your driver was attacked. He fell off the stand and tumbled down the road as the horses charged on from fear. The carriage was now out of control.
Immediately you leaned out of the carriage and gripped the ledge that was above the door way and found footholds along the bottom of it. While gripping onto the jerking vehicle with every ounce of strength you had, you shimmied along the carriage till you were up front. You refused to look down while moving, for the blurring ground was only a reminder of how fast you were moving and even though it was not at the speed of a train, it was terrifying.
You placed yourself behind the reigns and pulled on them while talking softly to the animals. They slowed but were still panicked and uncontrollable as they whined and pulled from the direction you guided them in. Soon, they calmed down with the help of your soft voice, and once you regained control, you pulled the whole carriage around towards the fight.
You placed the carriage protectively in front of your driver and jumped down from the bench. His leg was wounded, and his body was bruised from the fall. Scratches lined the sides of his arms, and blood ran down them as he used them to protect himself. Slinging his arm around your neck, you helped him into the carriage as your enemies surged forward.
You jumped back into your carriage before the enemy could grab you and sped down the road once again. It still felt impossible for you to have full control over the carriage's movements and you had to remind yourself that you were controlling animals, not a machine. It was overwhelming with the wind in your face and sounds you could not tune out.
You swerved as a carriage collided with the back side of your own. You struggled to keep straight and avoid hitting pedestrians while you were pushed further and further towards the building walls along the right edge of the road. At this point, it was almost too late to fight back since there was no wiggle room, but you tried.
You pulled your reigns harshly to the left, the horses whined in surprise and your carriage jerked left with enough force to move your opponent. Then you repeated your actions without giving them time to recover, causing a wheel to break under the stress and immobilizing the enemy vehicle. The victory was short lived as two other carriages replaced the decommissioned one.
Since they could easily wedge you between each other and make sandwich you, you decided to run. The horses darted forward at your command and kept a fast pace. You locked your eyes on the road ahead and refused to look back as the thugs gloating and yells plagued you. They were closing in, and it was a reality you did not want to witness until you heard a figure fall onto your carriage's roof.
You did your best to steady your breath and remain calm as the hijacker only came closer to you. The fear only increased as he sat next to you and revealed himself to be your missing friend. You were not ready to face him after everything you just learned, and the anger etched in his handsome features was not helping ease your worry.
He seemed to take his anger out on his environment. He took the reigns from you and slammed the side of your carriage into one of the enemy's until they were driven off the road. Then, you heard the sound of gunshots and instinctively bowed your head. Jacob did not though. He went rigid then looked over his shoulder to see where they were coming from.
He studied the figures behind him, then spotted a passenger on the last carriage that was running them down. He threw the reigns back into your hands, giving you control over the carriage once again, and order you to steady it along the other.
Without question you did as he asked as he returned to the roof. With a running leap, he landed on the other cart, pulled one man from his seat to throw him to the road and stabbed the driver so he too fell. The carriage began to swerve now under the frightened horses' control. Instead of taking it over, he returned to the carriage you steadied, took the reigns, and sat in silence as he drove.
You had never been so afraid of the man's calm and calculated rage. He never gave you a reason to fear him before. But now that you did, tension and fright weighed down on you as you sat next to him in silence the whole ride home. You did not dare say a word as he was left quiet and stewing in his own anger. Thinking over everything he was going to say to you the whole ride. He felt his anger and frustration keep building onto itself until you arrived at the train hideout where he would let loose.
"I told you!" Jacob cut himself off feeling overcome with anger, "I told you to leave this alone."
"Don't you dare blame this on me," you shot back with just as much venom in your voice, "The only reason I was even there tonight was because you just left and it worried me," your words quieted Jacob's anger as he absorbed the meaning of your words. "I was looking for some type of rational explanation for what I saw you do in that alley. So sorry if my actions seemed a little rash, but at least he was offering to help."
"Help? You didn't even know who he really was!" You fell silent, feeling hurt by him calling you ignorant. "You just looked for your answers, not caring who you were trusting to get them."
"What's going on over here?" Evie questioned as she entered the train car. You took her distracting entrance as an opportunity to wipe tears from your eyes and calm your beating heart.
"She knows." Jacob replied simply with annoyance lining his voice.
"About what?"
"About us...Evie. This whole thing. Roth told her everything."
"Technically, I don't know everything. Just that you've been killing blighters and other men." You stated then whisper to the side, "which I am not entirely against since they're mad men."
Evie just shook her head in sane disappointment and gestured for you to sit down by pointing to a booth seat. You listened, arms still crossed and your body still tense. You glared at Jacob like a pouty child. Maybe you would feel ashamed if he was not doing the same thing to you.
"Both of you need to stop your bickering first off and figure out what really happened." Jacob attempted to cut off his sister but was quickly shut down, "Why don't you start (y/n). Seeing Jacob here cannot hold his tongue."
"Well, Evie. I started getting mysterious letters that I now know were from Maxwell Roth. I knew I should have ignored them, but they promised me answers to things about you and Jacob I had to know....then one came with an address on it."
"So you just start trusting to meet any stranger on the street?"
"Jacob!" Evie barked at him sharply, causing the young man to pull back. Evie then changed her tone to address you, "Roth manipulated you then. Used your curiosity against you?"
"Yes," you admitted in shame, "I came across Jacob fighting men in an alley. I left before I saw too much and didn't want to believe what I saw. I knew there was more to the situation, but Jacob disappeared on me. And Roth promised to tell me what happened that night, and I was desperate to clear his name." Jacob's eyes shot up towards you in surprise, and his guard lowered. Not many people gave a ruff looking man like him a second chance.
"He wanted to meet me at his factory today. So I went. He told me Jacob was killing his 'innocent' workers and tried to turn me on him. When I wouldn't, he sent men to kidnap me or worse. I ran, then Jacob appeared and....saved me."
"And Jacob, what did you see?" Evie asked.
"I saw her at the factory grounds. Getting into a fight she didn't belong in just because she was curious and too trusting." Anger still resonated in his voice and his arms tensed as he clenched his fists. "I saw her commandeer a run away carriage with men chasing after her."
"So you're upset at him for ignoring you and you're upset at her for being in danger. But it seems to me if you were honest to her, she wouldn't be in danger." An odd sense of pride washed over you as she supported your side of the story, "but (y/n) you shouldn't have been so foolish to fall for this trap."
"It's not like I knew I was getting into something this risky." You fought back. Jacob stood to his feet and paced as he mumbled curses, annoyed by your insolence.
"I'll tell you everything. Jacob and even I are a part of a clandestine organization. We're assassins. Our purpose is to restore peace, order, and freedom to this city's people. We are working with the Rooks and other officials and our work has changed this place more than you know."
"So you kill bad people in order to help change the oppressive hold or influence corrupt people might have on the city?"
"Yes. And the man you met tonight, Maxwell is an ex-Templar and one of our main enemies."
"He mentioned someone named Starrick. Said you both worked against him. Is he a Templar as well?"
"Yes. We can go over more in the morning if you want to stay the night."
"I'll make sure the Rooks know she's on our side," Jacob stated before quickly leaving the train car and entering the next one.
Evie was much more caring about being a good host to you. She grabbed extra blankets and a pillow from compartments that were hidden through the train and made a temporary bed for you on one of the plush train seats. She also gave you a tour and showed you where to grab some food if you got hungry. She also advised you on which cars to avoid, as they were used as bedrooms for herself and one for her brother.
The train felt endless as you walked from car to car, making you realize the scale at which the two assassins are working at to own so much. To put it simply, they were rich and earned that money through their grim deeds.
You decided to turn in early for the night, your mind swimming in new information that maybe you would be better prepared to understand in the morning.
Summary: The story of how you find out your best friend is an assassin. Jacob Frye x Reader Part 1 Part 2
It was half out of curiosity for where he was going and half out of need for a companion to wander town with that you followed Jacob when you caught him wandering by the shops. Either way, you were willing to follow him and bother him for a few hours like you always did.
You saw him dive into an alley that was far down the street. You followed his course and found yourself sinking into an area that grew filth. It was the seedier part of town, and you were not surprised to find him going to such a place. Not far into your walk, you could hear a ruckus behind a closed door. The building seemed to be very active and the only place you would find Jacob.
The door opened and unleashed sounds into the open air that were previously stopped from escaping due to the heavy wood door. You heard a crowd's worth of voices shout in a loud uproar. Half were cheering in joy and half were groaning in disappointment. Some were spewing threats and others were pulling teasing jeers and jokes. A thin layer of cigarette smoke drifted through the air and the musty smell of alcohol filled the room.
You stood on top of the stairs and scanned the crowd for Jacob, but found it useless since all you could see were people's backs. You then descended down a flight of wooden stairs into darkness and the faint glow of gas-light lanterns.
Past the base of the steps was a sloped dirt floor and a crowd of people surrounding an event you could not see. From the top of the stairs, you spotted a wooden pen made of barrel wood and wondered what it held.
"Like to make a bet lass?" You tried not to jump as a man approached you, holding paper tickets. So that was what was going on.
"Not yet." You lied. You would never bet on such an event. Now you were just planning on confronting Jacob and questioning why he would be in a place that allowed him to bet all of his money away.
"Well. You better bet fast. Man who's in the ring is a sure winner." He encouraged, before blending back into the crowd. You were sure it was some kind of sales tactic the man was trying to use on you and did not realize he was being truthful.
You slipped through the crowd of huddled men all the way up to the wooden fencing that created a circle in the middle of the room. Once you established a spot for yourself, you looked up to find the man that drew you here in the first place and found yourself blushing heavily and averting your gaze.
Jacob stood in the ring, shirtless and sweaty from fighting. His hair was slicked back and disheveled and he had a white sash tied around his waist that rose up to his belly button. You tried to look away from him out of respect since it felt improper to see him in such a state. Jacob was your friend, meaning you couldn't ogle over him.
The unexpected sight made you blush and also made you realize how attractive you found him, but at the time you refused to admit to that. No, you were just flustered since it was so sudden, it was not due to attraction.
You peaked over at some better's cards, looking for any excuse to distract yourself. The cards were labeled "Round two, round three, round four etc." and a written dollar amount. Since the round number was written by hand, telling you the better chose the number and if the contestant lasted than many rounds or more, they won.
A few men held cards that had one of two options circled "challenger 1" and "challenger 2" and a written dollar amount, meaning they bet on teams instead of rounds. You stopped distracting yourself with cards and managed to watch the main attraction.
Jacob's fists were wrapped with cloth and he wiped sweat off his forehead with them, as he stared down one of his three enemies which were equal or taller than him. His muscles were tight and coiled as he brought an arm up to block a right hook aimed for his head and countered it with a sharp jab to the abdomen.
He then leaned back as another hit was thrown in his direction, and sharply kicked at the man's ankle after dodging, then grabbed his outstretched arm and threw him to the ground. The attacks were so sudden, the third challenger did not even have time to help assist his team mate. With his last opponent, Jacob struck him across the face and then bent his opponent's arm behind his back till he was hunched over, so he could bring his knee up into his face to knock him out.
When Jacob rose he locked eyes with you and signaled for the match to be over. Someone threw a white towel to him, and he wiped his face as he walked to meet you against the ring's wall. You still felt a faint blush on your face and jittery nerves, but you pressed them down and acted as if the blush was gone.
"So. You make extra money in fight clubs I see."
"And you're following me I see." He mocked and placed the rag against the pen before grabbing a shirt and jumping over the pen. "Didn't you have something to do in town?"
"Just got sidetracked. Where did you learn to fight like that?"
"Training. Let's get out of here. I don't want to run into anyone." You headed towards the door, where Jacob traded in his ticket for some cash and quickly returned to the street as if you did not discover one of Jacob's secrets.
Summary: A misunderstanding occurs when you stumble upon Keigo with the League of Villians members
It wasn't supposed to happen this way. You weren't supposed to be on patrol, Hawks made sure of it. Yet here you were, casually walking down the street and towards him and members of the league of villians.
"Hawks?" You called out to your friend, who was not facing you as he ducked into an alley. Confused by him randomly appearing on your route, you followed him.
The alley was pitch black with the only light coming in from the exits where light from the street crept in. It seemed like it was abandoned until you heard another voice speak up.
"Aww so you're the unlucky one to stumble upon us huh?" You froze up, realizing you were facing a high level member of the league all on your own. Himiko Toga. You must have seen her run into the alley, not Hawks.
Using your mana manipulation quirk, you created a ball of glowing energy in your hand, ready to throw it at the first sign of an attack and daring her to try anything.
Pulling out her blade, she quickly lunged toward you. You reactively sidestepped the attack, the knife's edge barely grazing your arm to draw a thin line of blood.
You turned on your heels so you were facing her after her attack ended. She looked down at her knife, "Hmm...not that much, but we'll fix that soon."
Being the energetic person she was she immediately dove into another flurry of attacks. Talking through them as if it was nothing.
She swipped at you, hand over hand, breaking through every opaque purple tinted wall of mana you brought up. She was trying to wear you down with fast attacks.
Suddenly struck you from behind, blue flames hitting you square in the back and sending you to the ground. A burning sensation ran down your back and the distraction gave Toga an opening.
She pinned you to the ground, blade pressed firmly against your throat as she happily smiled down at you. Dabi slowly walked towards you. You first saw his shoes just to the side of your head and looked up at him with a glare.
"You gonna take care of her? Or should I?" He questioned, conjuring a blue flame in his hand. At first you assumed he was talking to Toga, until you saw a familiar figure on the rooftop.
His gold eyes still shown through the darkness as a cold glare and his silhouette never seemed more imposing. Hawks was rarely this serious and it always frightened you when he was. He casually glided down to your side, no hint of concern or worry in his eyes as they met yours.
He held your gaze, hands still stuffed in his pockets as always when he turned his attention to Dabi to respond, "I mean. The whole loyalty test would be useless if I didn't at least try to kill her."
"Hawks?" You desperately searched for any flicker of emotion in his eyes and found none. That was when you knew you had to get out of there.
Using your hips, you managed to throw Toga off of you and quickly knocked her out with a harsh hit to her head. You immediately tried to run, but something held you back.
"Not so fast little bird." Hawks teased in a dark tone. Your heels dragged against the concrete as you were drawn back towards the center of the alley.
"This will be interesting." Dabi quipped, stepping back to let the fight take place.
Keigo held two of his feathers as swords and carefully circled around you, testing how you would react. Already feeling worn from the previous fight, you were not too eager to pull the first move but had no choice.
You created small razor sharp disk and threw them in his direction. He easily dodged or sliced through each one. Then he swung his feather sword down at you in a diagonal strike. You quickly produce a sword of your own and locked blades with him.
"Why are you doing this?"
"There's some things you'll just never understand." He crypticaly replied, "Motivation is one of them."
Then he began deploying his feathers. They circled around you, making you feel like you were trapped inside the eye of a tornado. You threw him off of you as the next round of attack occured.
Like Toga, he relentlessly barraged you with swift attacks. You blocked as many as you could, but some managed to punch their way through and cut you.
You were pulling your punches against him. After years of sparring together he could tell. He knew how strong you really were. He was just surprised that after all he had done, you still would not out right fight him. Why?
He retreated from the fight, standing across from you with his weapons lowered and his defenses down. It seemed like he was catching his breath but it felt like he was buying you time to restore your energy.
Intentional or not, that's just what he was doing. You took a break as he did. You felt your energy become restored enough for one big move, and you were going to take advantage of that the best you could.
You created three different walls to cage the villians in place. One wall in front, one behind them and one above to prevent Hawks from flying off. The move was going to be very draining, but as long as you kept it up you could distance yourself enough to escape. You ran from the alley, never looking back and headed home. The only thing that filled your head now was wondering what to do with Hawks.
Songs that Describe their Romantic Relationships or Character Par 1/ 2
Himiko Toga
Brutal by Olivia Rodrigo
She's someone who wants to relive their childhood since she had such a bad one
The lyrics (I feel like no one wants me/ And I hate the way I'm perceived/ I only have two real friends/And lately, I'm a nervous wreck) shows her relationship with the League of Villians and her own opinion of herself
This song shows the rejection she feels from society even after trying to fit in with her quirk
She just wants to feel loved by someone, but deep down believes she'll never get that
I feel like the aggressiveness and peppiness of the song fits her
Keigo Takami
The Girl by City and Colour
Would definitely use nicknames like my girl and babe as well as silly ones like love bird and baby bird.
He is such a sap and will use any opportunity he gets to show how much he loves you. (Even if it's in public and looks silly)
He'd yell I love you from across the room if he had the opportunity
Always wants to show how much he appreciates his partner by giving them random gifts
He understands that being in a relationship with a pro-hero isn't easy and wants to show he recognizes their sacrifice (especially when he's on longer missions)
Katsuki Bakugou
I Hate Everything About You by Three Days Grace
He is in total denial at first when he realizes he like you to the point he'd avoid you so he didn't have to face his feelings
Takes this boy a life or death situation after a mission to finally admit his feelings
He's genuinely confused about romantic love and what it feels like. So when he first develops a crush he doesn't know what to do with it
He doesn't understand why he like the person at first, he just knows he does
Would be in a relationship with someone who challenges him, not just in a competitive way but to help him grow as a person
Summary: A story about you and Bucky's growing relationship and how you ended up together.
Even though Bucky is back in the camp, he has not woken up and you still find yourself missing his voice. Without his jokes, his sincerity, his kindness, the war is getting to you, depressing you. He is the only one to keep you grounded and distracted from the real world. Steve has been by your side all the while though, trying to cheer you up, but it is not the same.
Slowly you realized you are in love with him. Everything about him. You love how he treats you with respect and love, a way no man treats a lady these days. You love that he sees you as a strong individual who can carry herself, not as some trophy like all men have seen you so far. You love how he guards you when men try to hit on you. How he usually shoos them away with a threat. You love how he smiles at you when you laugh and the goofy way he wears his hat. You even loves the way he chastises you when you get in trouble. Most importantly, you love him.
You grip Bucky's hand once again as you sit next to him. When you aren't working or sleeping, it is always where you can be found.
You rub your thumb over his hand and Steve draws in his book, sitting in a chair beside you.
"Are you two going steady?" Steve questions suddenly. You feel your cheeks heat up, as you look at Bucky and let out a small laugh.
"Something like that. We really just flirted I guess." You sigh heavily, you know the moment he wakes up you're going to make sure he knows about your feelings. Or at least soon after.
"I better not find you two meatballs around a Hydra base ever again. Especially you (y/n). You're not even trained for that." Your eyes light up and Bucky's grip on your hand tightens. You feel so at ease to feel him respond to your touch for once. It's surprising all of the emotions one man can evoke from you.
You help Bucky sit up on his pillow, and he quickly perks up, he seems back to normal even.
"How are you feeling?" Steve questions as he closes his sketch book.
"A little beat up, but I'll be fine. Don't think you two are getting out of my lecture now. Steve why did you let (y/n) go along? She could have gotten killed or--" Knowing Bucky can go on with his lecture forever, Steve quickly cuts him off.
"Wait. So you never jumped from a plane before?" Steve looks at you with innocent disbelief. You give Bucky a weak smile as he quickly snaps his attention towards you. You cannot help but laugh at his reaction.
"You jumped from a plane!" Bucky yells as he looks like he might pass out from just the though of you being in such a dangerous situation.
"What–what am I going to do with you two?" Bucky questions with a chuckle as he pinches the bridge if his nose and shakes his head. "Both of you are reckless meatballs who search for trouble." Steve laughs proudly at his friend's comment and you rub Bucky's hand. Buck gives you a sweet smile and you feel butterflies form in your stomach. He has the most charming smile you have ever seen, it never gets old to you.
"Let's get you on your feet soldier." You mock with a smile. Steve is immediately there to help steady his best friend. After a couple steps, Bucky proves that he can manage on his own. He only has a slight wobble to his step. Steve smiles at the two of you, seeming to understand what is going on.
"I have to go now to get a new assignment. I will see you at lunch." Steve strolls off, but not before secretly giving Bucky a thumbs up with a proud smile.
"So doll, you miss me?" Bucky questions in a smooth tone as he gives you a flirty gaze. You can tell this flirting is much different from the playful ones that usually go on between the two of you. This flirting is genuine as he seems nervous.
"I did miss you Bucky." You say, stepping closer to him. His cheeks become red and he looks away from you awkwardly. He did not expect you to respond like that. You find his sudden, uncharacteristic shyness attractive. It meant that he cared about you, he wants to impress you. Bucky tries to salvage his charm and puts on his signature smirk again.
"I think I've earned that kiss." Tension rises as Bucky pulls you even closer to him, he rests his hands on your hips.
"Last time I checked I was the one who saved your life." You tease, while you drape your hands over his shoulder.
"Well. I saved you from having another boring day." You find yourself staring at his lips as his breath becomes uneven. You swallow hard before replying.
"I guess that does deserve something." You softly place your lips on his and he is careful with his warm kiss. It's full of caring love as he softly moves his soft lips against yours. The kiss soon picks up as you kiss harder and more passionately. You slowly pull away and immediately miss the contact.
Summary: A story about you and Bucky's growing relationship and how you ended up together.
It has been a week since you have last seen James and five weeks since you first arrived in the 107th. You cannot help, but continue to worry about him. Worry about his life. You realize how much you do care for him. You hate just waiting around. Feeling helpless and ignorant to what is going on. To try and distract your mind, you have taken up extra shifts and work for yourself until you have no energy. Even then, you still think of him. The world seems to have almost stopped since he has been gone.
You sit in your tent as the rain becomes relentless. Pounding the ground and creating large, muddy puddles. The sky and ground are bleak and featureless. You take a sip of water, before looking at your feet hopelessly.
"Hey! Look up girlie. Captain America is coming around today." You look up to see a soldier with a canteen in his hand. Though the canteen does not reveal its contents, its owners breath reveals that it is alcohol. You smile at him, you're aware he is doing his best to cheer you up. Oddly enough his words do give you a lot of hope. Something about seeing a show, seeing people who are not affected by the true horrors of war makes you feel a bit better. You crack a small smile and reply.
"He is, isn't he....maybe that will lift up our spirits. God knows we need it." You sit up straighter, and look at your fellow soldier.
"Hehe we are planning to throw things at him. He is just a poster boy after all. Runs off during the fight." You hit the male hard on the shoulder. He jumps back and almost spills his drink.
"That is not very nice. He is just doing his job." You say on Captain America's behalf.
"Yeah and takes all our credit. Not to mention the cute dames he works with." You roll your eyes at him. That's all the men in this camp care about, attractive women. Now that you thought about it, the girls, the show, and the alcohol all made for a perfect distraction. If no one was going to tell you where Bucky was, you would figure it out yourself.
After watching the show for a few minutes, you make an excuse and slip away. You sneak right into the Colonel's tent. What you didn't expect was for the show to be cut short, allowing a certain Captain to catch you in the middle of your sleuthing.
"Excuse me ma'am I uh--" He cut himself off of explaining his own presence when he notices the name on the folder you held. His voice becomes soft, "...hey, have you heard from Buck?"
You shake your head sadly and see the hope Steve had vanish.
"Last I heard he was going against an enemy base. I have not heard from him...in a while." You say, handing off the information to expand on your statement. "...they reported him as a K.I.A I was hoping he secretly mailed something. I mean he can't be..." Tears spring up in your eyes, but you hold them back. Even though your worst fear has just come true.
Steve continues talking, clearly distraught by his best friend being lost. "I found out where he went I--"
"Steve no!--" you grip his forearm to get his attention and he looks at you. His expression totally changes from a harsh, vengeful and analytic one, to one of sorrow and care. He was so caught up in his own dilemma, reality was escaping him, but you bough him back.
"Steve you are not going there." Steve sees the tears in your eyes and he realizes how strong you are being. Silently taking in this information that is surely killing you on the inside.
"How did you know I was going to the prison? How do you even know my name?" You smile weakly at his nïavness.
"You seem the type to do dumb stuff when someone is in trouble, especially your friends. So I figure you must be the Steve Bucky told me stories about. You guys get in a lot of trouble." You joke.
You pause, thinking over your options. Thinking over what you can do to help. "...at least take me along." Steve's expression quickly becomes stern, but soft.
"It's dangerous. I cannot have you be out there." You note the firm sadness in Steve's voice. Sounding so strong, but still broken at the though of you getting hurt.
"Steve, please. I have to help avenge him too. Help free everyone else." Your words shake Steve. Making him realize that he does not know you and what your capable of. He does not understand how the war has changed you. You were stronger now physically and mentally.
You are no stranger to what happens in war after what you are exposed to. You know every single thing that is going to be thrown at you and will be unphased by any obstacle. You can handle the new threat that is Hydra.
"Please Steve...he was my friend too." Those words are enough to convince him to let you tag along.
After that you were on a plane with him, Stark and Carter heading towards the Hyra base. You are not sure how he got them to help, but you are greatful for it.
You lean over the edge of the plane, looking down at the drop that waited for you. Adrenaline, fear and nausea take over your system at once as you feel yourself lose your balance. You step away from the edge.
"Ready for the jump?" Steve questions you while handing you a parachute. You might have lied to him and told him you have been on the field before.
"Yeah. I won't be able to keep up with you, but we can regroup and free everyone together."
"Just make sure to blend in."
"Says the man wearing a flag on his back." You joke. Before you know it, it was time to jump. You check over your gear once more, making sure you are fully prepared. Steve jumps first, effortlessly cutting through the air and landing somewhere beyond the trees. You go after him and your experience is much more unpleasant.
Following his lead, you dove forward in a perfectly focused line with your arms tucked into your sides and effortlessly cut through the air and dove towards the ground. The edges of your vision were blurred from the movement of your falling, disorienting you if you did not focus on where you wanted to land. The wind howled in your ears and numbed your uncovered face.
After falling for the correct amount of time, you pull the chord and fell your body jerk upwards and float safely to the ground. The tree line hides your falling form. After finding you drop your pack and unnecessary baggage, you checked your gun that was a last resort as it would give away your position.
You climb a tall hill and lay flat on your stomach to scope out your surroundings and figure out what direction you were suppose to head in. You used binoculars to spy on the base, giving you a perfect view of where to head, but leaving you defenseless as you have no peripheral view. You spot Steve in the base, carefully running from cover to cover and quietly taking out enemies with his bear hands. He is making a safe space for you to enter into. As long as you could clear the wall which seems to be unguarded for now.
You did not have time to take action as you feel the barrel of a gun poke you in the back of the head and hear someone yelling at you fiercely in German. He wears an all black military uniform with a helmet and a high tech sniper rifle. There is the Hydra symbol of an octopus on his uniform and he wears a white mask that covers the bottom half of his face. The mask is scuffed up and seems to be made of metal or hard plastic, the kind on knee pads. The mask reminds you of a skeleton's jaw, you assume that is what the designer meant to do. It gives the soldier a fierce look, as if the fighter himself is undefeatable.
You act when he raises his gun, leaving him open. You leave your gun on your hip, deeming it useless to pull out since you have to act quickly. The soldier misses his shot and shouts. You take out your knife and run at the man, you learned how to use your size to off set a larger opponent. Bucky taught you. You graple and him and get him to the floor, but he flips you and pins you to the ground. A fierce punch is directed towards your face and you feel a warm sensation travel along your nose and a warm liquid ooze out. He throws your head against the floor twice before you manage to get him off you.
You grab the enemy's gun, which had fell to the ground, and hit the masked man across the face. He crumples to the ground, incapacitated for the time being. You take an electric stun rod off the enemy, seeing it as a better stealth weapon than what you currently had. For the rest of the mission, you follow Steve's lead around the base, watching his back and taking out anyone who gets too close. By the end of it all, you end up freeing dozens of prisoners and end up finding someone you never thought you would see again. Bucky.
Summary: A story about you and Bucky's growing relationship and how you ended up together.
You strip an old bed of dirty sheets and finish tucking the pristine white sheet onto the matress. The off white sheets of the last patient lay in a mound on the floor. You try to pick up all the sheets, but they tower over you to block your view when bundled together; some parts drag on the floor.
"Always on work huh?" Bucky, a soldier you met just a few weeks ago, questions you.
"Just the best for our soldiers." You say, looking around the sheets to see Bucky. He smiles and relieves you of a little over half your load.
"No thank you?" He questions proudly. You roll your eyes at the man. Ever since you kissed him on the cheek two days ago as a thank you, he has been waiting for a special thank you every time he helps you out of a bind. He use to rescue you without a word, never needing a reward or praise, just the right to tease you about it here or there.
"Sorry Bucky, kisses are only for helping with very important tasks."
"Hmm..I wonder what a real kiss would cost then?" Buck purposely thinks a loud. You try to hold back your laugh, but fail to do so. He is getting more brave with his flirting towards you. Before he was still a little nervous, shy even.
"You would have to help me with something extraordinarily big for that mister."
"What if I save up my rewards for one? Cash all of them in at once?" You ignore his teasing and instead give him a normal thank you to replace the one he is looking for.
"Thanks." You mumble. Naturally you would not accept help with the things you do from other soldiers. You are independent and strong. When you would get help, the men would label you as another helpless dame and nothing got on your nerves quicker. You could never work that false label off.
It was different with Bucky though. He never made fun of you to be mean. He might tease you, but you always find it cute.
"So how has your week been here so far?"
"We have been getting less wounded soldiers and they are healing quicker. I cannot help, but note the number of soldier here are dwindling." You drop your sheets in a laundry basket and Bucky does the same. Following your example.
"Don't tell anyone I told you this, but I think they are being captured by enemy troops." You grimace at his words.
"Nazis or the new threat? Hydra?"
"You know about them?" Bucky questions in surprise. No one is suppose to know about them. Especially the nurses. "I am not blind Buck. I put two and two together from tidbits of stories from the wounded. More than half of our soldiers have gone to the Hydra base and all of them have been labeled under MIA or KIA."
Bucky is quiet before he continues the heavy conversation. "That's what I came here to talk to you about. I have been assigned the job of getting rid of a Hydra strong hold with the Howling Commandos."
"I understand." You say, as you swallow the lump that has just formed in your throat. You cannot lose him. You never needed someone before, but you admit it; you do not know what you will do without him by your side. He pulls you aside and puts his hands on your shoulders.
"I have to do this." You nod at him, trying to figure out what to say. Trying to be strong for him.
"You will be back, ok." You say those words more as a reassurance to yourself than a promise to him. He kisses you on the cheek before walking off to the caravan with other soldiers. You watch him climb in and you both wave to each other. You do not leave until the dust his car kicked up has faded and he is gone.
Summary: You meet the Avengers for the first time when someone crashes the party. (Rough Draft I never planned to publish)
You drive on the highway, keeping the 40s station on and letting the calm melody fill the car. The sounds rock you into comfort as you de-stress. You turn up the volume as Helen Forest comes on and you hum along absent mindedly. Steve smiles, watching you in the corner of his eye.
Steve and you have been officially dating for a month now. Or as Steve says, "going steady." Which you think sounds cuter. He says he has something special planned for today and it excites you. He never keeps secrets from you, so it must be big.
You sit shotgun as Steve drives down the high way. You turn up the music and roll down the window a bit more. Even though this act allows you to hear the thunderous sounds of the high way, sounds so loud it drowns out the music and makes you have to shout to be heard, you love it. You love the breeze in particular, if you can even call it that.
You love sensation the cold gust adds to your sences, making you feel alive and tricking you into thinking you are driving faster than the steady 70 mph Steve keeps the car at. Or maybe it's deeper than that. Maybe it reminds you of your first date with Steve, how you rode on his motorcycle and had the wind in your face then.
Steve gently closes the car door once you are parked, immediately intertwining his hand with yours. He rubs circles on the back of your hand in a reassuring nature as you look at the building. Stark Tower...Avengers Tower.
"So. I am going to meet your co-workers?" You question in a casual tone as you straighten out your dress. He smiles at you. You always played everything off like it was nothing. You could handle whatever was thrown at you. He knows you are very nervous on the inside though. Trying to show strength.
You enter the elevator and are whisked away to another floor, high up in the tower. You feel your stomach sink at the thought of meeting the superheroes. You do not want to make a bad impression. The elevator door opens slowly and you make your way into the living room area, Steve still holding your hand.
You're suprised to see that a party is going on. Natasha is by the bar, talking to Bruce Banner. Rhode is sharing his war machine story with a group of girls. The other Avengers are mingling with cheerful guests.
"We were just trying to figure out who can pick this up." Tony says, walking out of the way to reveal Thor's hammer dramatically. "Up for the challenge? It's sort of like an initiation." He says in a cool tone. After hearing all the stories Steve tells you, you know there is some kind of trick to it.
"Stark." You hear Steve warn with a slight growl in his threatening tone. He did not appreciate the billionaire trying to poke fun at you. Tony swings his arm over your shoulder, whisking you away to the table.
"Oh, loosen up Spangles. I am sure your girlfriend can handle it." He says nonchalantly. You look over your shoulder at Steve.
"Spangles?" You mouth to him in confusion. Steve shrugs back at you. You sit next to Steve on a couch. The hammer sits on a table in the middle of you all. You walk up to the hammer and grab it. You manage to lift it up less than an inch, so no big deal. Thor can wave it around like nothing after all.
"Goodness!! Is this thing made of steel or something?" You question, rolling and massaging your wrist. You look up to see all of the Avengers look at you in shock.
"Was I not suppose to be able to do that?" You question innocently, pointing to the hammer as you continue to massage your wrist.
"Nope." Hawkeye says blutly, taking a sip from his drink. Everyone looks at you in shock and Thor seems nervous.
Blackwidow steps forward. "You see only Thor can pick up the hammer since only he is worthy. If you can pick it up, you can technically rule Asgard." She tries not to laugh as the others go on with their humorous conversions. Not wanting the party mood to die out even if you did just do a remarkable feat.
You walk back over to Steve and he holds you closely, a proud smile on his face. You sit on the couch with him and watch the others attempts. Hawkeye is first. After seeing you pick it up, he figures it will be a piece of cake. Thor just makes the possibility of picking up Minjor seem impossible with the whole, "you must be worthy," thing. You watch him take a deep breath and try to pick up the hammer. He is suprised to find it will not budge and Clint soon gives in.
Tony tries next. Picking up the hammer, he uses the leather strap as leverage. When that does not work he brings out his Iron man glove and activates the thrusters, but still it will not budge. Nothing seems to work, after one more attempt with Rhodes help and the Iron man gloves, Mr.Stark gives up.
Then it is Banner. He yanks at it and soon seems a bit upset that it will not move. As a joke he pretends to turn into Hulk with cheesy yells. You quietly laugh at his actions, but no one else reacts.
"I'd like to see you pick it up." Stark challenges Steve. Steve shrugs and walks towards the hammer. He wraps his arm around the handle, his muscles become more prominent. You see the hammer move slightly, catching Thor off guard. Thor seems afraid, more afraid than when you picked it up. No one else seems to really notice though.
Everyone continues to joke around and laugh, drowning out the achievement the Captain just made. You smile at him, showing that you noticed and value his achievement. He is about to say something, when a high pitched sound rings through the room. Everyone covers their ears to lessen the sharp screeching tone. Once it's over you see everyone tence, ready to fight. Agent Hill loads a gun and hides it under the table.
You turn around to see a robot in the door way. It looked like one of Tony's broken Iron Man suits. The mouth is cracked and some limbs are missing, loose wires take their place. Steve pushes you behind him, that way he can protect you if something happens. You manage to stand on your toes and see over his shoulder.
The robot moves forward cautiously. Its movements are sharp and stiff, as if its getting use to movement and life. No one breaks the silence as you all wait to see what the new threat has to say. It stares at you, then looks to everyone else.
You are too distracted by the looming threat of a fight to focus on the speech the robot prepared. Everything that occurs once it's done happens quickly.
Natasha jumps over the bar counter and Banner quickly follows her. You try to find cover as more of Tony's rogue safety bots fly in. Nat slides a pistol over to you. You snatch it and load it before shooting at a robot that has targeted you. In the corner of your eye you see Clint jumping on the back of a robot. Thor hits them around and Steve uses his shield. Hill continues to shoot them down with quick and precise shots. Through teamwork, the robots fall one at a time.
You use your rounds on a robot that is going after doctor Helen Cho as she hides in a corner, totally vulnerable and unarmed. The robot quickly looks towards you and rushes at you, that's when your gun clicks. Your nerves suddenly act up as you lose the feeling of power, control and security you had, hiding behind the weapon.
A repulsor ray suddenly shoots out and goes clean through the robot's head. The repulsor leaves behind a base ball sized hole, with red hot edges, proving how deadly one blast can be. You give Tony a grateful smile, before guiding Dr.Cho to safety. You keep her behind you for the rest of the fight, with a newly loaded gun.
You do not bring her out until it is silent and you see Thor's hammer destroy the head suit. The lead robot seemed to crumble into pieces and shatter due to the sheer force of the hammer.
You let out a sigh of relief and guide the doctor to the middle of the room. She is still shaken, but who could blame her.
