The wedding was in 2013 btw. Her partner Myriam Jourdan unfortunately died in 2020.

Did you sit at the back or the front of the class?
I was a pretty good student. Then everything fell apart in high school. It’s the classic story; girls, cigarettes… I once missed an exam because I went to a David Gilmour concert with a friend. We came in two hours late with a hangover and got expelled for awhile. -Mads Mikkelsen

Happy N7 Day!!! I love these games with a tender and reverent love, and I'll definitely return to drawing more fanarts. In the meantime, here are some of my good old watercolors.
And which Mass Effect characters are your favorites? Who would you like to see in my paintings? I'd love to hear!
Happy N7 day!

We don't talk enough about Helena being clearly inspired by Helen of Troy... To begin with Helen of Troy was born from an egg.
She's known as Hellen of Troy despite being raised and born in Sparta, because she was kidnapped as a result of The Judgement of Paris (and that's when she was taken to Troy). The same way most people think of her as Helly despite being Helena Eagan.
The judgement of Paris in this case parallels Mark's decision at the end of Cold Harbor and through season 2. But like with the Orpheus and Eurydice's myth, it's not a 1:1 comparison. In the myth, Paris is chosen to be the judge of a game the Gods started: he had to choose among 3 Goddesses the most beautiful one. But they started to bribe him, so each of them promised to give Paris something in exchange if they won. 2/3 of the bribes were related to money, power and war strategy. But Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman, Helen. And of course he chose that. In the show this choice is represented at the end of Cold Harbor, but the reasons are exposed early in the episode. Mark has to choose between taking Lumon down (war strategy) and reintegration (power outside of the severed floor) or the most beautiful woman (and the love of his life). And of course he chooses to stay with Helly.
The thing is Helen was already married for political reasons. She was the daughter of Zeus and her family ruled Sparta, so a lot of people wanted to marry her. So in order to get Helen Paris had to kidnap her.
Helen is a pawn in all of this, her marriage was political and mostly her father's choice. Then she was kidnapped because she was a present for Paris for participating in a game Helen wasn't even a part of. There aren't many popular versions of the myth that focus on Helen's point of view, so we don't know what she thought about any of this (and mythology is already messy to begin with). We don't know if she cared about her marriage or if she wanted to escape with Paris (it is believed she liked Paris). All of this could've been against her will. But what she thought doesn't matter, because she didn't have a choice in these matters anyway.
They say Helen started the war of Troy but really, she didn't. She belonged to a man and was stolen by another, and then these men started the war. But she was blamed for it, in some versions she is seen as a traitor.
This is just like people blaming Helena for choices Lumon and Mark have made. You could argue if she wanted/agreed with either of them, but does it really matter what she thinks? iMark chose Helly, but Helena is just as trapped as oMark is.
And there are more things: Helen tried to deceive the Greeks hidden inside the Trojan Horse by mimicking their wife's voices (and it almost works but they realize it's her) because the Trojans knew it could be a trap. Trojan's Horse (ep. 2x05) is the first episode Helly is back to the severed floor this season.
Hell is carpeted.
- Helly asking Mark in the pilot if she was dead and the Severed Floor was Hell.
- Mark and Gemma's story being a spin on the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. A man who tries to rescue his deceased wife from being trapped in the Underworld.
- "Well boss, I guess this is the part where I should tell you to go to hell. Except you're already here."
- The musical notes that play during the elevator transition of Outie to Innie being a G and C#. A tritone, also known as the Devil's Interval.
- Mark mentioning Persephone in the latest episode, the Queen of the Underworld. Whose life is split in two, spending half her time down there, and the other half up above in the world of the living.
- "You know, my mother was an atheist. She used to say that there was good news and bad news about hell. The good news is, hell is just the product of a morbid human imagination. The bad news is, whatever humans can imagine, they can usually create."
