Riley is just one of my favorite people in the world, in all honesty. There wasn’t much acting required in caring for her, and loving her. (x)
thinking about how the last paragraph of this time review really captured why iwtv got me in two episodes whereas i’ve mostly been left indifferent to all the big genre shows we’ve had premiere this year. the part about it being a genre show “with a real sense of fun” is so spot on. it fully embraces what it is from the gothic romance to the absurd comedy of it all but it also, so far, has made thoughtful and significant changes to the source material that actually improves it.
it came out straight out of the gate incredibly confident and already feels like it has an identity whereas so many of these shows, with far bigger budgets btw, still feel slightly lost (for me). this isn’t a call out for a specific show btw, i think that criticism applies to any of the big budget genre shows that have been coming out. obviously not all of it but a lot of it especially this year (for me anyways).
instances of a character/actor originally being meant to not last super long in a show but the writers liking them so much that they kept coming back or stayed (aaron paul on breaking bad for example, etc) has definitely happened before but i do think this case is special in that he’s playing a real life person in a show where everyone is fictional or like a fictional version of someone. they clearly originally wanted to reference a real life comedian on the show that was big at that time so they did lenny bruce and they probably thought “oh this will be a nice little reference/cameo” and that’s that and then that clearly changed! i truly think if they had the choice to do it again, they would have just cast luke kirby as a fictional character INSPIRED by lenny bruce instead cause now because of luke’s performance and chemistry with rachel they’re out here re-writing real life history just for him haha

genuinely hilarious to me that luke kirby turned a role that was essentially planned for just the pilot, that the creators had zero intention to bring back and turned himself into a recurring guest star turned series regular (granted he still gets the screentime of a guest star but whatever it’s about the billing!!!), got himself an emmy out of it AND became a genuine love interest for the main lead.
can’t believe post-season 3 finale we’re still getting “kendall’s character arc is pretty much done” takes. i thought we would be free of this after it was clear he didn’t die in episode 8 but no apparently certain people can’t see where his character goes post “all the bells say” and like... that’s not a show problem. that’s a YOU problem sorry. thankful everyday jesse armstrong is a better writer than a majority of the (mostly blue check media ppl) who write about his show.
it’s one thing to think kendall’s character arc is done if you somehow thought he was dead in episode 8 but to think that he has nowhere to go AFTER ‘all the bells say’ what finale were you watching? and the idea that he was somehow shoehorned into that final scene post-confession when the whole point of the scene was the siblings finally coming together partially because yes, they needed him for their agenda but also because he was genuinely emotionally vulnerable with them. HE’S THE GLUE. HE’S THE ANCHOR. one of the most exciting things about season 4 to me is that i have no idea where kendall goes from here. because the kendall we see in the final scene is probably the most stable and most even-keeled we’ve ever seen him. like, i’m sorry for u if you watched that final episode and thought “kendall is done they have no story left for him” when really the possibilities are endless for him. he’s the number one boy for a reason sorry!!!!!
mourning the lack of jeremy strong post-finale interviews by re-reading old ones especially him talking about succession and its themes of family, abuse and trauma. he Gets It™ (Sources: Hype. My, Vulture, Flaunt and So It Goes)

it's 2021 and we're still doing this huh...
kindly wish for white drivers especially old white men to shut the fuck up about this already
the man is not allowed to have other interests outside of f1 apparently. the underlying racism of f1 media and ppl in f1 that LOVE to paint lewis as this "bad boy" even tho his "lifestyle" (even back when he was younger) was literally like so tame compared to other athletes lmao (it was super extra esp during 2016 and a part of that is cause nico helped fuel that narrative... the way the media framed that rivalry... gross)
Lewis Hamilton opens up about activism and life beyond F1
i feel like the journey to where lewis is now is genuinely so interesting but so little of it has been explored because so much of the writing and media coverage around f1 is so white-centric that there’s so few genuinely interesting articles or media about what it would be like to be so dominant in a white dominated sport where you’re the only current black driver. drive to survive had a real opportunity to delve into this more but instead they made it an afterthought which is a shame.
johnny flynn + violin | i was six when I started playing violin, which i guess is quite young, but I really, really loved it at that age. i completely adored the first few teachers, and then I had a teacher when i was thirteen who was a real bully, and he put me off the violin for a while. my yearning for something else and rebelling against the rigid training is what pushed me towards writing songs and jamming with people. (x)
in this instance i was able to write a love song to emma from knightley’s perspective. it’s his kind of celebration of her but a very tongue-in-cheek teasing one that feels true to the way a good marriage would be – you know the way people communicate when they’re in a good marriage. - johnny flynn
a brief tour into mr. knightley’s mind
i met you when the weather got fine you said ‘i’ve got yours and you’ve got mine’
