Bonobo In Session
Here's a teaser I put together for the Bonobo session recorded at Maida Vale last Tuesday, and aired on Saturday's show.
The gallery is below, but here's my favourite, a portrait of Si Green.

It's still up on the iplayer for another few days.

James Blake Session on Saturday
This Saturday, Gilles Peterson is playing out a session from James Blake, which we recorded on Monday at the 6Music Hub.
I started recording as the musicians and engineers were loading the equipment in, setting up the 16 channel rig (stripped down from 24!), testing the channels/FXs, and vocally warming up, and from that I put together a little abstract trailer.
It's been genuinely exciting to see James develop as a musician over the last couple years. The first live show I witnessed was at Worldwide Festival in 2011, where I heard the CMYK rendition that goes well beyond the original studio version.
Since then, his songwriting has developed, and the new material exceeds the standard set by his first album.
The show at the ICA last month was a bass-heavy, sensorily-intense, yet intimate experience, which prompted a number of 'full-scalp tingle' moments, even from material I'd not heard before, and this session shows that even on a Monday afternoon in W1, the talent of these 3 musicians can take you somewhere pretty special.
You can hear the interview and 2/3 live tracks from 3pm, on Saturday 13th April.

Bobby Womack co-host with Gilles Peterson
At the start of the month, I had the pleasure of hanging out with Bobby Womack for a couple of hours, at Gilles' Brownswood Studios as the two recorded a Christmas special co-host for BBC 6Music.
I wasn't too aware of the specifics of Bobby's history, but it soon became clear he's lived an incredible life. A genuinely lovely and wise guy, with a real talent for story telling, and of course, an incredible voice.
This week, Gilles Peterson is joined by soul legend, Bobby Womack and his guitar! The two hung out for 2 hours earlier this month, discussing Bobby's amazing life and career, with a few impromptu covers and jams from Bobby thrown in for good measure.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to fit everything into the show, which airs Saturday 29th December 3-6pm, so here's a clip you won't hear anywhere else, with Bobby performing a quick cover of 'Ain't No Sunshine', and discussing Bill Withers' low profile in recent years.

Bobby first emerged as part of The Valentinos in the early 1960s, before pursuing a solo career that has spanned over five decades. Most recently, he worked with Richard Russell and Damon Albarn on his critically acclaimed comeback album, The Bravest Man In The World. The two discuss Bobby's career and influences, unearthing a few unexpected musical gems along the way.

Kendrick Lamar Meets Gilles Peterson Teaser Freestyle
This week Gilles Peterson is joined by US rapper Kendrick Lamar. The full interview airs Saturday December 1st 3-6pm (GMT), where the 2 discuss the phenomenal Good Kid mAAd City debut album, as well as Kendrick's upbringing.
But to whet your appetite, here's a clip that includes the 2 talking about UK/European beat producers, with Kendrick performing a short freestyle over TNGHT's 'Higher Ground'.
Tune in live, or listen back on the iPlayer here:

I went down to check the first Mala In Cuba live show at Electric Brixton, catching Moritz Von Ozwald, Thristian and Gilles Peterson warm up. Here are some snaps.
On Monday @KendrickLamar passed through @bbc6music for a chat with @gillespeterson.
I'm just importing photos from the day to my Mac and thought I'd stick this one up, on a real moody tip.
The interview will be on BBC 6Music, Saturday December 1st, 3-6pm. Look out for the little freestyle over TNGHT's 'Higher Ground' as well.
This week on the show, Brainfeeder's Taylor McFerrin swings by to chat with Gilles about the forthcoming album, hooking up with Hiatus Kaiyote, and how being the son of Bobby McFerrin has influenced him.
Plus he drops a couple exclusive tracks from the forthcoming album, both of which are killer, in very different ways.
This Saturday, 3-6pm on BBC Radio 6Music, or on iPlayer after the show.

Jesse Boykins iii
On Saturday afternoon, Jesse Boykins iii passed through the BBC 6Music studios with his band, performing 3 tracks live on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Show. You can listen back to the entire session, which included an incredible cover of Feist/James Blake's 'Limit To Your Love' at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01ngpt8 until October 27th.
But whilst they were set up in the 6Music Hub, Jesse and the band also recorded a previously unheard version of 'B4 The Night Is Thru', premiered at Prefix Mag.

Archive: Gilles Peterson Meets David Rodigan
Gilles Peterson Worldwide Vol.4 No.11 // David Rodigan by Gilles Peterson Worldwide on Mixcloud
Warning: This post might be a bit/a lot self-indulgent.
For over a year I've been meaning to upload this show to my much neglected radio production portfolio, and finally today I had some spare time to do it.... Luckily, I discovered it's already online through GP Worldwide, so I thought I'd save myself the work and just embed here instead!
Rodigan came down to the Radio 1 studios on the 28th of June 2011, ahead the weekly 2am live show. Gilles and David ended up chatting for close to 2 hours so this show could have been a 4 hour monster, but as that wasn't going to fly with the execs at Radio 1, I had to be pretty ruthless with the edit.
It was a pleasure to meet Rodigan, and hear him speak. It was one of those evenings where I felt privileged to be in the room, hearing the story of a living legend. He's a guy who has had the balls, talent and dedication to do exactly what he was meant to do, which is always inspiring to see.
Respect to him.
The show aired on Radio 1 a week later, 6th of July 2011.

I made some weird ice.
Bizarrely, my brain spat this idea out, just as I was about to fall asleep some night last week...
Had this dude on the show today with Gillles, and this shot was taken at BBC 6Music a couple weeks back when he passed through...
Check the show/interview here on iPlayer.
