“I wasn’t the cause sweetheart, i’m the result of an action.” Thana sighed. “Death is what is caused by dying, life and death shake hands and one transfers the soul into the hands of the other, when the death is caused life cant do anything other than ask and beg, but life isn’t fair - and death doesn’t discriminate.” she explained sadly.

She hated this part of the job, explaining that the fault lay with the one who caused the action and not death itself... this was why she preferred to stay invisible and not interfere, as most blamed her for taking their loved ones.

“Oh… Hello… I didn’t think this place had anyone around… not with the toxic fumes… you’re not trying to make yourself regenerate are you?” Thana asked in her soft voice, a little worried for the TimeLady.

This was the down side of being a being out side of time and space, never to die themselves and to know who a person is by just looking at them and their timeline.

Thankfully, their all knowing thing only extends to age, face, species, name and of course knowing how they died, she still got to get to know people the right way and she never cheated by peeking.

“Not regenerate. We both know I should have died last time,” is Missy’s only reply, as she gazes upon Thana and knows who she is. How could she not, with the number of times this very same spirit of death had collected the souls of those she’d killed? Indeed, when she looks at the woman’s face, she sees the intense stare as she retrieved the soul of the little girl she’d shoved into a volcano to stop the Monks. “And the Doctor thinks I left her. She might even think me dead. I’ve hurt her so much, and I – can’t do this alone. Not anymore.”

“True, i guess, but your past self isn’t so stupid.” she points out.

She walked over and held her hand out to her. “This must be why my instinct lead me here, a friend in need, lets get you out of here before the damage is in-reversible.”

Thana had always been there, The Doctor’s faithful companion, from the very beginning it had been them, The tardis and the Doctor.

Now they didn’t always know they were there, and she was awfully shy and they thought the Doctor wouldn’t like her around them and the companions, so she tend to say hidden most of the time’s, but when time came for a companion to pass on, she always took it into her hands to make sure they got to the other side… its the least she could do.

“You shouldn’t blame yourself Doctor, they made their choice, the both of them… and i can assure you that they are both alive… tho they made each other regenerate on the ship.” she softly as she sat down beside her.

Except it was only her and Thana, since she’d lost the TARDIS – since the TARDIS had essentially flung her out of its doors and into the open air. In all the time she’s lived, the Doctor is certain a betrayal had never hurt so much, and she’s still shell-shocked. The two of them sit on a park bench in London, at three a.m., the Doctor’s knees hugged to her chest as her fingers play with torn parts of her predecessor’s jacket sleeves. Unconsciously, she moves closer to Thana, for warmth and through a desire to cling to the only familiar thing she has left. River, Bill, Nardole, Missy, the Master, even the TARDIS – she’s lost them all.

“It’s my fault, though,” Tear-filled hazel eyes struggle to hold the other’s as they spill over, stinging the skin just beneath her eyes, already seared red by salt. “I should never have taken Bill and Nardole into that situation, and I put Missy into the path of the Master, too. I took River to Darillium knowin’ she’d die and I’d never see her again. I let meself regenerate when I promised meself I wouldn’t. An’ even the TARDIS cast me out. I should’ve just let it end. I’m so tired of costin’ people their livelihoods and their lives…tired of failin’ people I should’ve been able ta protect.”

Thana Wrapped her arms around the woman and pulled her close, pressing a kiss to her forehead.

“The Universe is a horribly wonderful place and you know that Theta. But you cant protect everyone, for even if you try you might put yourself in the line of fire... and i selfishly want to keep you around... I had been quite lonely before you came around with your lovely lass of a grand-daughter.”

“Plus... you need not worry, you know i’m always there, right? I wont let you live your life alone Theta, ill always be Hidden in the shadows. I would come out more often but... i... i just don’t want to scare your companions aways, thats why i stay hidden... because no one wants to meet death itself.” She murmured sadly, It had always been a wish of hers to just travel with the Doctor properly.

She was still a little tickled that the doctor had practically begged her to help save Clara and she, being the softie she was and enjoying the impossible woman’s company (who had died at least 11 times)... agreed to help him.

“Again?” Thana mutters when she see’s the man laying dead on the ground. It hadn’t been the first time she had come to collect a soul only to find it was the immortal who had died. She should know what his soul feels like by now.

Only this time it was different, this time she decided to stay visible and sit on the ground while she waited to him to return to life. She watched as his soul shot back into his body and he gasped to life.

“You really should be more careful my dear boy, I think this is is your forth death this week.” she told him with her soft voice, mainly to bring his attention to her.

When he shocks back to life, he’s not alone. It’s not the first time that it’s happened, but it’s always awkward when it does. It really doesn’t help that there’s something… familiar about this woman, something Jack seems to recognise but can’t quite put his finger on.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” he says, climbing to his feet. Denial had always worked in the past, there’s no reason for him to think now is any different. Besides, who would understand that he can’t die?

“Of course you don’t... You definably don’t know what i’m talking about and i’m definably not death itself, i also don’t constantly get mildly annoyed at the ‘Bad Wolf’ for making you immortal...” she rolled her eyes slightly.

“But never-mind that, the only reason it annoys me, is because i haven’t yet learnt the feel of your soul, even after all this time... then again, even if i did, i wouldn’t have been able to ignore a death... i’m present at every one of them, even if i don’t want to be.” she shrugged.
