Okay, she was actually growing pretty concerned now. He was flushed and trembling and couldn’t look her in the eye – hands behind his back in a stiff and rigid posture that betrayed every bit of the anxiety he was so obviously experiencing. Blake wasn’t sure she had ever seen Cardin this nervous about anything, and…that made her nervous.
“Hey…are you alright?” Worry tinged her tone, as she set her book to the side and sat straighter in her seat, prepared to catch him if he keeled over. She could feel the tension starting to knot in her own back and shoulders, her mind and reflexes on alert, because his behavior was nothing short of alarming.
He had been…thinking about them for awhile? Was that…bad? Was he not happy? What could have him on the borderline of a panic attack from thinking about their relationship? Was he…?
Golden eyes blinked in confusion, as a hand settled against her belly, like it would soothe the jittery sensations that had her stomach twisting with fear. “Wait…are you…” Her brows twitched into a conflicted frown, and she leaned back slightly, as if to guard herself from incoming pain. They had been together for quite some time – close to a year, now…and she had thought he was content with the way things were, but…why else would he be so anxious and unsettled? “You…are you…thinking about breaking-up?”
Just looking at her began to at least calm Cardin down somewhat, reminding him of why he wanted to marry her in the first place. But, then she spoke, and the words that came out of her mouth caught Cardin completely off guard.
“Wait-- What?!” The redheaded man could feel his stomach just DROP as soon as that question of hers registered in his nervous and jumpy mind. He blinked, taking a step back and looking from side to side. “Breaking up?! No! Far from that!”
Oh god, had he really seemed so nervous and standoffish as to make Blake, the love of his life, sincerely feel like he wanted to end the relationship, when in reality it was the exact opposite of that? Of course he did! Of course Cardin of all people would make the feline feel this way! But DAMN, if he wasn’t committed to her---
“No.... No Blake, I’d never want to break up with you. Ever!” Good god, he was a babbling mess and he knew it. Should he just propose right now just to shatter this thought that had formed in her mind and was clearly causing her pain? This was far from the romantic scene that he had seen in movies that he had envisioned for himself and her. “No.... No.”
“L-look, I’ve been thinking about us, and how I want to take it to the next step.” Cardin attempted again, taking a deep breath and getting back into the position that he was in before.
